I can agree with almost everything you say however, Travelling in your 20's, if you can afford it, is one of the best things you can do for character development. Also if you have a good friend group, travelling with them in your 20's is much more fun and rejuvenating than I would think travelling in your 30's with your significant other may be. By the time you're in your 30's , even if you don't have a significant other or family to care for, there is a very high chance that most of your friend group will, and will be occupied with their responsibilities so find the time to enjoy life with them while you have their company! The travelling I have done thus far in my life has only given me better perspectives on things as well as motivated me to work so much harder so I can own real estate all over the world, conducting business remotely from wherever I choose. Overall, great points Oliur!

100% agree with that, nothing better than travelling with a bunch of friends, and after trying it, you want to do so much more
@obscvre
@obscvre Год назад
It depends on the type of person though. For me personally I'll never travel with friends even if I have the money in my 20s, I'd rather do it alone, so that doesn't bother me one bit if I'm travelling in my 20s or in my 30s, then in this case I totally don't mind start earning money first to cover all my travel expenditures.

I strongly believe travel is one thing you can spend money on that makes you richer. 17:29 You're not setting yourself back a year, you're gaining perspectives that you wouldn't have otherwise, maybe experiences that you come back with that'll spark an idea or give you drive and passion for something new. You're meeting other people, other cultures, and seeing how your world view isn't the only one thats valid, how theres multiple ways to go about solving problems. You'll experience things that you've never experienced and be thrown out of your comfort zone. Youre being forced to learn so many skills. I got 10 vacation days last year, that i didn't even use. Where I live most people get 2-3 weeks (max) of vacation. That isn't enough to reap the benefits that travel gives you when you take a “gap year.” There are so many ways to make travelling more economical, and while yes i agree you definitely shouldn't put yourself in a place where it is a financial setback but i think its a great way to invest in to yourself and live a little instead of automatically throwing yourself in to the rat race of life just to try and gasp for some air once a year when your boss tells you you can. Tomorrow isn't guaranteed, so as much as we should prepare and set ourselves up for the future (very important) you should also do what you want to now and find that balance.

Definitely highlight not having a goal about what to do with your money. And a controversial one but I go a step further and say living at home with parents and NOT using that time to save for a financial goal in your 20s is a mistake imo. That’s a wasted and privileged opportunity that you’ll never have in your life again. Independence teaches you so much more and you get more out of life. Great video Oliur!

@Escapos

Agreed. Putting off traveling until later is way more stupid IMO. There's so many stories of people that got wrapped up in their professional lives and wanted to keep the ball rolling so they never ended up traveling. And it makes sense. Would you rather go for the $25k raise and start working towards a house or throw all that away to go travel lol. The year I took to travel at 19 was 110% worth it. It made me who I am and got all the partying out of my system. Made it so I could focus entirely on my career when I got back.
@mistersir3020
@mistersir3020 Год назад
@@Escapos If you have a job with enough vacation you can still travel? I figure it all depends on whether you're one of those people who get like 1 week off a year for Christmas.

I 100% don't understand why my comment got deleted. Algo's ways are truly unknowable. But basically I said: you don't necessarily need a goal; just save. So that when eventually you come to learn what dreams you have, you've got the money handy to realize them. Need to change career? Want to take more time off? Have an investment opportunity? get sick? Well there's no problem I've got enough to get by for a couple years.

Nice one, though I must disagree on the controversial one, as you saw coming haha. I think a perspective you might have missed in this regard is whether or not the individual has already found out what they want to do, how they want to live and basically what their ideal life would look like. I think you're kind of the same as me, we found our goals quite early on and focused on that. However my partner is a great reminder for me that many people are just a bit clueless at this age and I believe travelling makes a lot of sense to find yourself, the person you want to become and also what to do with your life. There's no point on focusing on something that you will regret focusing on 5 years later. Ohh and I should mention that I mean the more explorative kind of travelling.

Travelling might be a mistake financially but it's not a life mistake. Pretty much everyone with a new Mercedes will tell you 2 weeks after buying it that it was probably a mistake. I've yet to meet a single person who regretted spending a significant amount of money travelling while they were young though.

Growing up as a creative person I never truly cared about money. And always had this perspective of like life is more about passions and creative endeavors. And I made that mistake during my freelancing career not knowing how to properly manage my cashflow properly and learn things the hard way. Now I'm in my 30s trying to make up for lost time. Looking back my parents were terrible with Money and its a learning process for me still at this point.

And, for me, not having any responsibilities helps a lot too, you know you can do whatever you want ! Currently in Erasmus and it’s easily the best thing I have ever done it really changed me ! @winb_
@winb_ Год назад
When he said that I was actually surprised but then it made me realise how normalised it's become to blow all your savings on a 'life experience' to then come back and be depressed, as much as companies love to say that they care about things other than your skill, traveling for a few months to a year to then come back and have no job or marketable experience is not a great idea, so many of my friends have done that and now regret it, they ended up doing fine but it was very very hard for them and would have been in a much better position if they hadn't done that. If you want to travel somewhere else and get a job there then that's different of course but I'm talking about people who go on long term holidays(few months to a year). And you have plenty of time to travel here and there with a 9-5 I don't see the point of long term travelling before you even have a career. Also just to say people are gonna do whatever they want and no one should stop them so if that's what you want to do then it's completely fine.
