Where the peaches go 😂😂. I was told to keep the main leaders and cut out the suckers. Yes, early pruning is a must or they go everywhere and usually up to the light.

Wow the peach tree is beautiful! It reminds me of the cherry trees when they first come in blossom here in Northern Michigan.

Thank you for the video. I'm always open to watching and learning pruning videos. I love all of my trees, and I hate cutting them. However, over the years, I've learned how important pruning and spraying are. At least for me. I recently got a Necta Zee miniature nectarine tree. So, I've been trying to learn how to prune it. I'm very excited to try the fruit. I hear it's very good.

Fruit trees are certainly a blessing! We've never heard of that tree, but think it would be fun to add a nectarine tree to our farm as well. It's something we will be looking into. Thanks for watching! ♥

This was a great video, thank you so much! Our peaches were not doing even as well as yours, despite being the same age, and virtually identical climate. But I went out, fully confident, and pruned my trees, and am feeling very hopeful! Now to find out how you fertilize them...
@LargeFamilyHomestead
@LargeFamilyHomestead 2 месяца назад
Glad it was helpful! Our chickens free range around them, so fertilization isn’t an issue. Other trees that aren’t in the chicken area receive our homemade compost from the cow pen. ❤️

I hope we get to see the fruit on this tree further on in the season. Enough cuttings to start an entire new orchard. Good luck.

Same happened for my peaches and almonds (central Texas) but luckily? we did not get another freeze. Hope everything goes well for yall. Can say its important to not follow 'the rules' to a tee; dogma can have a sneaky consequence sometimes. Great job on that tree though!

You mention pruning when the buds are just starting to swell. I did that this year, and they were too far along for the scion exchange, and not far enough along to bloom in the house when placed in a vase of water. I’ve decided that next year I will do some pruning BEFORE the buds swell and put the scions in a ziplock bag in my vegetable bin in the fridge for the scion exchange folks to graft or raise as cuttings. Then I will do another pruning when it is opening its first blooms. Those will go in a vase in the house. If I have scions that I want to graft onto my peach tree, I will do so then.

you said the tree will produce more fruit than we need...well we'll see after the squirrels get to them first. I've tried cloth coverings per fruit or over the whole tree but they chew right through them. Ideas?
@LargeFamilyHomestead
@LargeFamilyHomestead 23 дня назад
I've read that squirrels don't like a hot pepper mixture sprayed on the trees, but you would have to reapply it after rain. I don't know if that works. We have dogs that protect our property and garden, so squirrels don't come anywhere near the trees. 😊

When I prune my peach tree like this the branches that I don't cut all the way off but prune back by half their length die off. What am I doing wrong?
@LargeFamilyHomestead
@LargeFamilyHomestead 12 дней назад
It may be due to the season you are pruning in. The best time to prune is when the pink buds appear in the spring. Also, make sure you are cutting right above a leaf node, so it can continue growing. ♥

Thank you for the great video. I learn something every time I watch a new video even though I’ve watched dozens on Peach tree pruning One thing I’m still mystified by and have never seen in any other video is what that ball of aluminum foil was around that limb . It sounded like you called it air layer, but I’m not sure even though I watched it three times. What is that aluminum foil doing?
@LargeFamilyHomestead
@LargeFamilyHomestead 4 месяца назад
Air layering is a process used to propagate the plant to be reproduced. Once it roots in the bag we will remove the branch and plant it elsewhere. We plan to do a video of it when it’s ready. Stay tuned! 😉

If you don’t want to use a ladder to get the peaches, you can bring it down and let it grow wider. 😁

can you still prune AFTER the fruit has started coming out? My peach drip is practically touching the deck now. I'm afraid it's going to just break and damage the tree due to the weight of the peaches.
@LargeFamilyHomestead
@LargeFamilyHomestead 3 месяца назад
You can prune but I would recommend just removing the fruit from the branches until they stop bending over. Thanks for being here! ❤️

I’m not sold on all these pruning ideas people come up with for light and density bla bla bla , I have seen a number of peach trees on the sides of the roads here they get no attention and are loaded every year with beautiful fruit and they have been there for many years , I think it’s more a personal thing for people but I really don’t think it’s necessary but probably handy for orchard growers more than anything , just my 2 cents worth.

I have realised that the only pruning required is to keep the tree to the shape and size required.
@LargeFamilyHomestead
@LargeFamilyHomestead 3 месяца назад
@@RanbirSingh-tz5fy In some cases, they may be completely accurate. However, here in Texas where it gets very hot and humid, if we don't prune the trees, they won't get enough airflow.

Can I do this after leaves and fruit have grown? I appreciate your thorough details!
@LargeFamilyHomestead
@LargeFamilyHomestead 2 месяца назад
One of the reasons it's easier to prune when the tree is dormant is that it's easier to see what you are doing. I wouldn't prune my trees with leaves and fruit on them unless I needed to, but I don't think it's going to hurt them. ♥

@@LargeFamilyHomestead thanks for the response! There’s a video on my page about my Elberta peach tree, it’s defiantly diseased and is a home for many aphids. It’s also 10ft tall and the best fruit is at the top.. think I have to go the painful route and chop it down to a manageable size.
