This video gave me the "Ah.. I Get It!". I fish only at my local Lake Reservoir with traditional tackle and have always wondered how to fish with a Fly Line. Now I know. Well to be honest I'm still just learning Fly Fishing. Thanks.

All good points...that I learned the hard way. You took the words out of my mouth a couple of times. The only other thing I'd add is the water haul, particularly when your line is laid out downstream. All you need to do is lift, fling and point upstream. A very effective way of casting double nymphs and an indicator without tangles and without having to false cast.

Thanks! Definitely a lot tougher in tighter spots. You have to get creative with your short, casting game in those situations.

Appreciate the tips! What’s your preferred way of setting up the flies? (i.e off a tag end, off the hook, through the eye, etc) Thanks in advance
@FlyFishDan
@FlyFishDan 3 года назад
Hello Chase - my preferred way is to tie the dropper fly off the eye of the first fly...it tends to give the fly a more natural presentation when doing so. Hope that helps! Cheers!

Thank you for asking that question as I was wondering how to tie the second fly to the first one. I have perfect pond where I can try this arrangement. I could never catch a fish in that pond and was wondering what I could do to increase my chance of catching something. I only do catch and release so don’t worry you have not trained a fish serial killer. 😁

Hi Dan. Ofcourse this works well when you pick the line up straight and deliver it straight, so when everything works when pickup and delivering is 180°. But how to cast when you pickup in an angle of for example 45° and deliver in 45°. Then you can't do without false casts, or can you? Left subscription. Tight lines 🎣 from the Čech Republic 🇨🇿.
@FlyFishDan
@FlyFishDan Год назад
The easiest way to keep from tangles is to pick up the set up and then point the tip of your rod the direction you want it to land - which could be any degree up to 45 as you described. You can false cast these setups, you just run the risk of tangles if you do...and that is why you water load. Sorry to see you go! Cheers!
@robinred1851

@@FlyFishDan I wrote it bad, I meant it like I activated a subscription for you. Thanks for the quick reply. Once again tight lines🎣.

I don't wanna sound dumb, but is there a difference between a "fly indicator" and a traditional bobber you would use on a spinning rod? And I don't mean the big round plastic ones we all used as a kid, I mean like... the foam E-Z Trout float or something? I tried fishing with one of those yesterday, and although it was disastrous at first, and the water hauling cast made a big difference, it still felt heavy as hell and the commotion the float made while water hauling was horrible.
@FlyFishDan
@FlyFishDan 11 дней назад
The fly fishing bobbers (aka indicators) are made using far lighter components - the OROS indicators are my go-to...super light, float high and easy to cast.
