Thanks for checking out the video! I'm glad I could help you on your return to the game! Now that I'm over being sick I can get back to planning out some content for everyone. 🤙
Really? I wasn't aware that it also happened at planet bases since I'm mostly AFK at my base, I'll pin the comment so others can see it. Thanks for sharing this and for checking out the video!
Seems to be an isolated case. I‘ve been using large refiners on a planet to store void eggs. They‘ve been in there for months now and haven’t disappeared, even after the Worlds Part 1 update. Same goes for the refiners at my curious deposit base that I use to refine the runaway mold…
I am having the same thing happen, must be something new since I've been playing since the beginning and it's never happened before. I think it's only if I leave the system but when I tested it it also happened when I restarted the game though when I reloaded the last restore point it reappeared. It's a real pita since I stopped using the freight refiners years ago because I'd forget I was refining something and move the freighter but now I can't even do it at ground bases unless I sit stay there for the whole process.
Same happened to me. I have a mining base and set up a medium refiner just to refine some runaway mold. Since it was going to take 6 minutes to finish, I left the planet and came back to an empty refiner.
I made a manual save on my freighter using one of those pods whilst refining and everything in the refiners disappeared. Didn’t move or leave my freighter. 24 refiners worth of silver and gold just vanished before my very eyes. Thankfully I didn’t use the refiners again before using the same save point the next day, when they miraculously all reappeared again 😅 Since this happened, I don’t make manual save at a save point or move my freighter at all whilst refining. Interestingly, using that same save seem to trigger losing resources from another bunch of refiners on a planet base, which also fully reappeared after I used that same save point on my freighter the second time. Strange bug but good to know.
Yeah, the whole refiner system needs a little bit of love. I started making another video yesterday, testing a couple of things.. when I left the freighter and came back, one of the refiners somehow changed from what I placed in it to something else completely.
I wish more people would do the "and this is what could go wrong" portion. Thank you, I returned to NMS about a week ago after a 3 year break and installed 4 refiners on my frigate just last night for this very purpose. I moved it after but haven't returned yet, think that might be a painful surprise I'm in for. Subbing to your channel, please don't just give the silver linings to things, a more realistic take on things is 100x more valuable than the "just do this" content.
Thank you for the awesome comment, I really appreciate it. Hopefully when you logged back in everything was still there, supposedly after one of the latest patches this was fixed but, I haven’t had time to log in and test for validation. It’s great to have you back in the game since so many changes have been made! If you need anything during the new journey reach out!
Thanks for checking out the video, I remember when I started out, I lost so much stuff from refiners. If you have any questions about the game, feel free to ask, and I'll do my best to answer and help out!
Same happens with the atmospheric extractor rooms, they can often "forget" what was in them. I've once got them back by deleting and rebuilding the rooms, but that's not worked again for me since. It's worth remembering this can also happen in the base (medium/large) refiners as well, or you can choose to reload a save made just after loading the refiners and it'll reappear with the process completed even if you shouldn't have done it. The whole thing is ridiculous, it's been an issue forever and you'd think they would have found a fix by now.
As you said, I knew it could happen with base refiners, but I was unaware of the extractor rooms because I've never messed with them much. I probably should be utilizing them just for extra gases to keep on hand. Thanks for sharing your experience!
As weird as it may sound the items put in the refiners don't actually vanish. Depending on the situation (how the freighter was spawned, be it by calling it with the menu, or by teleporting using the base portal (or other means idk) there will be two instances of the freighter. If you're missing items, it may be the instance is wrong, so try to reload, teleport or go to another system and summon the freighter. I'm not sure why this issue is still here, I think it should be easy to fix but who knows (I barely know a little about programming).
Supposedly it was fixed in one of the latest patches, at least that’s what another viewer said in their comment. So hopefully we will no longer have to warp/re-summon and jump through hoops, but I agree that it wouldn’t be too hard to fix if it’s not already, but I’m not a programmer lol. Thanks for checking out the video!
@@sideofgamingx Just now (maybe 10-15 minutes ago) I experienced a similar thing, with ships. I landed in a space station and checked if I had extra ships (sentinel and such), and weirdly there were 3 I was sure I scrapped before... I scrapped then, created a restore point (enter and exit ship) reloaded the game to make sure I was done with those ships... and they were back. I had to scrap 3 ships at lest three times, and they may come back. Ghost ships indeed.
You can get it back. If you don't put anything else in the refiner you can jump with the freighter and you will see your stuff again. It doesn't always fix it the first time, but I've been able to get my stuff back.
@@sideofgamingx I ran across a video that warned about it after I had already lost stuff and had the tip. It took me awhile to get it to give me back stuff, but I got my nanites. The issues becomes if you add something to the refiner whatever was lost is lost forever. Lost a lot of runaway mold.
Not sure if it's because I used to do this loop for so long that I eventually got tired of it and I'm now farming sentinels and pirate stations for tech which can easily be sold for tons of nanites. Knowing that I could lose quite a few nanites using refiners also helped me make that decision.
Agreed 100%, I farm sentinels the majority of the time now as well because it's more engaging, but I also use Radient Shards cause they're a 1:50 ratio and easy to get.
Same if you save your progress and reload, it's gone too. I had a weird thing going on where a menu suddenly popped up and displayed the inventory of my Minotaur while I was onboard my freighter and I couldn't close that menu. I reloaded my autosave while my refiners were busy and after loading, they were all empty. I had to reload my manual save, go back to my other bases to pickup the goods I wanted to refine all over again and start refining everything from scratch.
I've had something similar happen to me a few times as well. Just yesterday, I was doing some stuff and left the freighter, and when I came back, the resources in 1 refiner had changed to something else completely from what I placed in it.
Yeah, don't leave the freighter if you're refining. Just use multiple refiners to hurry things up and only use them when you're gonna stick around for a little bit - like if you're expanding your freighter, sending frigates out on missions, or experimenting with making food. But just don't go too far. I've even lost materials from teleporting between planet, space station, and freighter.
I couldn't agree with you more! So far, I haven't lost anything as long as I leave the freighter in the same place, but I agree it is good practice to stay with your freighter until things have finished. Thanks for checking out the video!
Glad it could help for in the future! It said that this was fixed in a patch a few weeks back, but clear it hasn’t since a few people commented stating the same as yourself.
tainted metal is the rich mans way of getting nanites, if you have the money for the derilect freighter scanners you can get between 350* to 1500* per and tainted metal refines at a 2:1 ratio if you didnt know already that is
I hate to hear that, everything surrounding the refiners is so finicky. Like I said in the video, it's often better to AFK and wait until everything is finished.
Does it also break if you use the freighter as your ship, like jump the freighter to a new system while riding on it? Since, I plan to try to use my freighter (when I get one) as my mobile base. But, I don't think I'll have quite that many refiners. My idea was more like, 6 of them. Or some other astetically pleasing design with them on either side of a open tech room "hallway".
I have had it happen before, so yes. It sucks, but it's just best practice to keep the freighter stationary while refining materials. I've even had a few viewers have it happen while processing nutrients, so it's not just limited to the refiners.
I've had a few say that it even happened with nutrient processing, so it’s wild that it can happen with so many different things. Thanks for checking out the video!
Are we sure the refined materials aren’t transferred to the freighter or storage containers after warping? I’ve done this with 9,999 salvaged metal and I swear the nanites appear in my account & unused salvaged metal returns to inventory.
I'm not sure if it's a bug or more of an issue caused by the freighter creating a new instance each time it spawns in. It would be nice to see Hello Games do something about it though!
If that’s the case, why has this been a bug for about 2+ years now? 🤷🏻♂️😂 I love Hello Games, but there are bugs like this that have been around for years and years and not addressed.
@@Bluetangg Yes. I’ve personally reported it several times, and it has been a known bug and reported by lots of people for years. You should still report them, though. You never know if enough reports might move it up the list. 🤷🏻♂️
@sideofgamingx I've seen reports from at least one video mentioning that you should not make changes to your capital ship base if you spawn it using the quick menu. That's to avoid a bug that seems to cause new rooms, such as refiners, to not function priorly. Instead, warp into a system using your capital ship before making changes. Then warp again to be sure it saves room positions properly. I'm not sure why this happens, but one theory is that using the shortcut command place the capital ship slightly off position in relation to when you warp using the capital ship. This supposedly cause an invisible offset in the coordinates for the newly placed room compared to when you warp using space map, causing it to not function properly.
Runaway mold has been the go-to farm for nanites for years because you can gather large amounts and refine them over time, but pirate stations are also excellent! If making nanites was the premise of the video, I would have definitely included that. Maybe a nanite guide will be the next video lol
@@sideofgamingx oh yea, I understand it wasn’t the premise. I just wasn’t aware people used mold for nanites, since it seems really inefficient. I don’t really participate in the community side of the game very much, so idk what knowledge usually gets shared.
@@julius.caesar. You are correct about efficiency since it's a 20-minute 5:1 cycle, but most load multiple stacks on the freighter and let it run. There are so many ways to make them everyone has options. You should definitely get involved with the community. That's one thing I love most about the game: It's filled with many great people, from the travelers in the Anomaly to Reddit groups.
As of two days ago, it's still happening. The community has reported multiple instances of it, so it's definitely not obsolete. Until HG puts in the patch notes, this is an excellent practice, especially for those returning after a multi-year break or new players to the game.
Sadly, yeah, it's still an ordeal. So just be careful when you're doing anything refining-wise on your freighter! Also, thanks for checking out the video.
