I went in balls deep when i started rollerblading about 7 months ago with the Seba high light carbons , popped some endless 100 frames on them and off i went. Bit silly like buying a ferrari with no driving skills but i have no regrets , rollerblading has quickly turned into a huge passion and i would have probably ended up upgrading an entry level skate fast so it would have cost me more in the end. Now i got the NR100 frame and waiting to get my hands on a CJ2 prime with intuition liners and probably turn my seba high lights into a flat 80mm setup and see how i like that. Could be fun to mix it up with 2 setups

Danggggggg! Yeah that’s a smart way to go honestly if you can afford it. Definitely depending on the person I might say get something like the flying eagle since they aren’t to expensive and if they end up falling in love with skating they will last a long time. But if they don’t end up sticking with skating then they don’t have a $800 pair of skates collecting dust Your setup sounds awesome though thank you for the input

@@Skating_Squid yeah it was like 2 years of lockdown so i barely spend any money on normal fun things i used to do so might aswell go all in haha. Yeah there are plenty of great entry level skates that you can have fun on for years i bet. One day i will be able to skate as smoothly as you do you great style.

0:47 Don't worry about taking it too seriously! We're on wheels, we can fall & get a fracture % we need to know lol. Plus, skates are expensive. Just imagine wanting to do outdoor skating & spending like 200 on indoor skates & never knowing, just to keep messing up.

Hi-Lo setups are high in the back, low in the front. The smaller wheels in the front (theoretically) give you more manueverability. They also give you a naturally leaned forward stance depending on the frame. You can create the same affect with a straight chassis in a number of ways. We used to use 2mm drops per wheel. I've seen a few using 4mm drops per wheel on straights for a very aggressive stance and they did quite well with them.

Great video, good information. One thing I’ll add for anyone that might see this, if you find a boot you like, you can often find other frames to swap out if you want to try other configurations. I had quite a journey finding the boot for me, as I wanted something UFS I could put aggressive frames on, but the stability to have a bigger wheel frame without the soul plate. Landed on some Seba CJ2 prime and it’s been a blast

I ride a 3x100 and after a week it has a slight natural rocker. I like the way it handles cracks and obstacles and they fly. I only skate for fitness and sometimes just do basic maneuvering including backwards and power slides. I ride a Powerslide Next boot with Endless 90LR frames in 3x100

Glad this video came out, we talked a little on instagram about skates and this video is a great follow up! I currently have my hockey skates but plan to switch out the indoor wheels with some Asphalts for outdoor skating, mainly smooth concrete walk/running trails, new england streets aren't friendly to wheels lmao

For people coming back into skating definitely ride flat imo, like recreational to build that muscle back but depending on style of skating if you want in between aggresive and recreational i use FR ufr with oysi frames on undercover wheels but to each their own, i have many set ups for different purposes.....but i recommend new comers to buy quality because first impressions can determine someone's experience, join a rollerblade group and ask mad questions, dont be discouraged.....great video btw 🤘😎🤜💢🤛

Question for you, i wanna do a mix of street skating and i eventually want to learn for a small skate park. Ramps and all that, given my issue. Do i need different wheels or frames for the park? i wanna purchase quality like you said.

Skating is the one sport you can get a great workout, do anywhere, really very accessible money wise and fun as heck. Specially once you build some skill being able to skate anywhere is the best feeling. I've been keeping my skates in the trunk of my car this past spring and the have come in handy. However, don't keep your skates in the trunk of your car for long periods plastic gets too soft or hard in winter summer and end up brittle ultimately breaking.

I think Tri-skates are great for long distance trail riding where you want to go fast with lot's of momentum to keep you at a high speed as long as you are not doing a lot of technical stuff. Also you will roll over obstacles easier if the surface is less than ideal. For all around riding such as urban environments where you do a lot of technical riding, a 4x80-4x90 setup makes more sense.

Excellent video! I would needed such a video 3 years ago. Here my skating Story: I started skating 3 years ago with some really cheap skates (30$). They were awful, had no ankle support. So after 10min of skating my feets start hurting a lot. In addition, they were slow as hell. But i got hooked into blading. Then i bought some rollerblades and i didnt like them too. They felt a bit loose, not comfy and quite slow. But i skated them till the wheels were complete done. Then i bought powerslide Zoom with a 4x80mm set up and the crwon liner. This was just perfect for me. I upgraded the skate with undercover wheels, wicked abec 9 bearings and waxed laces. I love the set up for city skating and slalom. After that i bought the usd sway XXI skates because i d like to test aggressive skakting. Nowdays I m the proud owner of another pair of zoom with a 3x100/3x110mm setup and 2 more aggressive skates, the usd sway IV as antirocker setup and 1 usd aeon with 4x 80mm undercover wheels. For chrismas i like to buy the aqumarine roces and maybe another pair for city skating, i have an eye on the Apadt GTOs. Anyone who has experience with these skates? Greetings from Cologne, Germany.

Nothing but TRUTH in this video I upgraded from the rollerblade zetras to the Adapt GTOs and my life was changed after a month in the broken in GTO, they are so much freaking faster and honestly 4x79mm or 4x80mm wheels feel so much better and smoother than the 3x110s

I alternate my FR1s between 4x90 and 3x110, but truthfully since I do most of my skating on a 12 mile bike loop I tend to use the 110s more often. But the 90s are more versatile, so when I travel that's the frame I use.

Why I don't like tri-skates: bigger wheels means higher strain on the joints and less agile ride; less points of contact with the ground means bumpy ride.

I'm a triskate addict! I ware Next Powerslide on. Depending on the distance, I used to put 80 mm wheels for slalom in a public park. As I want to roll for long distance, I just replace these 3 wheels by 100 or 110 mm ones. I train myself several Times on it before a long trip! Maybe you should try again!

I think your 3 wheel skate opinion is right but I love them already. It’s to late for me now as I have relearned everything from my prior skating experience on my new skates, I feel like maybe I should purchase an endless frame so I can switch between 4 and 3 wheels but I have already spent a lot on this hobby.

I got used skates about a year ago then bought into some Seba Trix 2, the adjustable rocker on it is great, I mainly street or path skate and rock them flat but I will try and rocker whenever I go to a rink or something. I have wide feet so they are the most comfortable thing I have ever worn. I also love the 3 strap, it means I can tie some elastic laces on them and just boot up in less than a minute. Love the channel btw.

I skated agressive a lot between 96 and 2005. A real lot. I can tell you we skated city streets no problems, we didn’t have skateparks and there wasn’t 80mm freeride skates and we were fine grinding, gapping whatever was there. Regarding the hate on three wheels skates, please provide arguments because I got back into skating in 2021 and I’ve got to say triskates are amazing and very reactive and fast compared to the 80mm setup I had on my k2 uptown’s which where good too though.

Excellent video! I got back into skating recently after about a 25 year break, and picked up the FR1s, and very happy with them. I was really big into city skating in the 90s, but what's interesting coming back to skating years later is how popular having a "rockered" skate is. I remember back in the 90s, we dreaded the moment our wheels developed a natural "rocker", and we would immediately rotate them to wear the inner wheels down to get back to a flat setup again... now people are paying hundreds of dollar to start out with wheels being at different levels. I guess as different types of skating become more developed over time, more specialized equipment is developed to cater to those differences, but I'm still not at that point where I'd pay for a set up that's not flat... maybe one day, who knows. It would be interesting if you could comment on, or make a video about, essentials for city/urban skating, like different backpacks, fanny packs, lights for night skating etc... What you think you need for different situations, or what you think you don't need, pros and cons of carrying different stuff etc. I see some people city skating, and they have nothing but their skates, and then I think, what if they get dehydrated, or need to put on shoes etc. Then I see people with backpacks, and think how does that affect your balance with the extra weight on your back... There seem to be pros and cons of each, but it seems like a worthy discussion to have.

I've been looking at this comment for a few days trying to come up with a good response haha but yes I don't think people should be riding rockered unless they are doing slalom skating but to each their own I guess lol I've only tried doing it a hand full of times and it does not work well with my style of skating at all haha. Flat For Life. I really actually like the second part of your comment and I think its a great video idea! If you dont mind waiting I will try and get some thoughts together and make a whole video about all your questions

@@mountainpeakcloud8442Natural rocker is awesome... But it only makes sense with a frame that is at least as long as your feet... To me a short 80 flat makes no sense unless your feet are very small, why do you want to balance on something like stilts? 😅 When I got the back wheel just behind the heel and the front wheel at the tips of my toes it feels like an extension of my body and skating is most natural. The "expensive" rockered frames are not necessary but are high quality and help with equal wheel wear... And now finally the major brands also found out that not everybody with normal or big feet enjoys skating with what is actually a slalom frame...

I have three pairs of skates. I have two pairs of Flying Eagles. One with 125mm wheels. And the other with 80 mm wheels. And I have quad skates as well. I like the 125 mm wheels for cycle paths, especially if it is a new location. The bigger wheels feel safer, mainly when the path changes to the road unexpectedly. But I go with my 80 mm wheel set up for general day-to-day skating. I love my quad skates, but they are for the state ring only. Flying Eagles are good skates overall.

😎🤙 So I went with the Flying Eagle S5+ (2024 Eclipse), and it's been great! It's a Hard-boot, metal 165 mm frame, 4x80 wheels with rocker axles. I got back into skates due to my daughter getting to skating age. We go to the rink and do a little around the neighborhood skating. That said, back in the late 90s, I was in my teens and was big into skating. My early days were skating the local business and, funny enough, skating through the mall daily. The security was cool enough. They knew I was only going to go through once, and I didn't try to mess stuff up. Later, my friends and I built skate park stuff in our friend with cool parents' driveway. We had a 5' 1/4 pipe, an 8' box, and a couple of round rails. I had lots of good times skating there. From there, we started going to what were at that time, all indoor paid skate parks. Taking the driveway experience to the skate parks was so much fun right off the rip. My first time to a skate park, I hit the 12' 1/2 pipe, no problem. Alas, the skate park trips took their toll on my skates, and they finally broke beyond repair. I was at a point where getting a new pair of skates wasn't in the cards. That was the end of my early skating days. I really enjoy the way that you skate 'flow style'. I have been focusing now on that style, and it's been a blast. With an 8yo, has been a great way to practice since the pace is kept slow.

I got a pair of Rollerblade Zetrablades like six years ago (when I was 40) to get back into skating from my youth. Spent years at the rink with my kids, last year started hitting the trails outdoors. The Zetras have served me quite well in this time, with a few wheel and bearing replacements as I learned about skates themselves. Felt I needed an upgrade, so I just ordered the new Rollerblade Lightnings as I have wide feet and these reportedly have a good sized boot (based on the RB line). These look to be a good, inexpensive, versatile skate for general purposes, and I hope to start hitting the streets in them. Since I'm also doing a lot of distance trail skating, I plan on getting some 3x frames with 100mm wheels to swap out as needed.

@@t.terrell7037I started skating the trails last summer, and this winter was rather mild so I'd had a few months outdoors. They worked just fine for that. Soft boots are supposed to be more comfortable, but not as supportive or responsive, so it depends on your comfort and skill level I guess.

Before recently I could probably count on one hand the number of times of skated in my life. I went to a little get together at the skating rink a couple months back probably and that was like the first time I'd ever gone rollerblading and not just fallen on my butt. I still fell a lot, but I learned how to go forward, and learn how to steer over the course of that night. I went skating again maybe a month ago, and decided I was going to buy myself some skates because I wear an 11.5 US and the skating rinks don't do half size rentals I have to choose between excruciating pain or weird pressure points and a lot of flex in the oversized skate. I went with a three-wheel. I bought a story space three-wheel skate, I took it to the skating rink the other night and this is the first time in my life I've gone skating without foot pain. I absolutely love my three-wheel skates and I feel very stable on them, I feel like I have control and I was able to do the crossover steering thing where you step foot over foot. Still learning, I maybe did a couple dozen laps around the skating rink. maybe they are a gimmick but you know what they look cool and I'm convinced the bigger wheels are going to roll over pebbles and things easier once I get to the point of skating outside of the rink

72mm is not so common anymore... Undercover team white 86a are the best you can get. Undercover Raw are cheaper, fast and grippy but once you loose grip they slide a bit unpredictable 85a or 88a, the latter has less grip but a little more predictable (these wear down faster even though harder than the expensive team wheels 😅)... Powerslide Spinner are also available in 72 (I think 88a) more of a mid range wheel and too slidey for hockey I think... Hyper makes some good outdoor hockey 72mm wheels at 84a but might be hard to find 🤔

@@danbeare5263I would clearly go for 90's at that foot size... EU 45-47 uses the same shell only different liner size... So UK 12 is best, 11 would work with a little longer break in time I asume but liner has no stretchable toe box...

You could clearly make super small circles with a banana rocker... But for normal skating it's pretty unstable and you will only have the grip of 2 wheels... If you don't switch wheel positions, you get a natural rocker, that feels like it says, natural to you and your style 🤓

I just started skating again and I got the FR UFR Intuiton. Pretty much the same as yours but a grind space between 2 and 3 wheel but full sized wheels. Well 80's anyway so its way better than the old school anti-rocker setup. I LOVE the abiltity to replace parts. Now you dont have to buy new skates if you bust a buckle. Just replace the buckle. ANd being able to try new frames and crap is cool. I just wish wizard frames were cheaper.

Unfortunately I haven’t got to try many rollerblade brand skates so I don’t know :/
@ericbernardi8116
@ericbernardi8116 4 месяца назад
Twister is narrow at toes and the cuff has lots of flex to side and front, liner is comfy but thin and soft (I got pressure point on inside ankle bones)... Power transfer is a little better as the bottom of the boot is stiffer than FR... And most 3rd party frames won't be centered, Rollerblade seems to position their holes a bit different 😅 Crossfire is a carbon boot with integrated liner, maybe it's awesome but my heels kept moving up and down no matter how hard I laced and ratcheted in a perfect sized boot... If you want it, I strongly recommend trying it on in a shop, 'cause you can't swap the liner if it doesn't fit... FR are just the standard in freeskates, they fit most feet without pressure points, with the thick and comfy liner, decent heel lock, good support and a full 7 hole mounting plate to fit about every frame available... Only advice; if you want to go with a thinner liner than the FR stock, you most likely would have to buy a smaller size (FR Intuition size chart)...

I used to skate 20-60 miles a day, several times a week. It's been so long ago, I can't remember what wheel size or bearings. Seems like they were abec 9, and wheels were 80-85? What would you recommend for an advanced skater that doesn't want their skates too fast anymore. I'd like to get a little butt if a workout, and still be able to stop quickly for idiot drivers. I used to have K2's, heard boots and loved them, but with age the boots just cracked to pieces when I took them out of the closet. They were from the late 1980's. I wanted something similar, and be able to raise the front wheel. Any advice appreciated. I'm not looking the K2 changes with the soft boots. TY!

I’m getting into skating and I feel like it’s hard to know where to buy skates with changeable frames, most places sell recreational skates with monocoque frames and those skates can be up to $300. I now have k2s and story inline skates because the only non-monocoque skates I was finding were aggressive skates with too small of wheels than I want or hockey skates. Can anyone make any suggestions on where to start for changeable frame skates? What websites? What brands? Preferably under $500. I want to get endless frames at some point but I don’t have skates with the right frame. (As I’ve mentioned a million times 🙄 sorry)

@ericbernardi8116
@ericbernardi8116 4 месяца назад
Endless sells FR1 with Intuition and their frames complete on their website... It's not under 500 but if you buy the endless frame later you won't be much under anyway and what they offer is top of top 😉 Else, in the US you have proskatersplace, inline warehouse or shop task... In Europe I would recommend Bladeville or ThisIsSoul 😘
@ericbernardi8116
@ericbernardi8116 4 месяца назад
Ah yes, some more... If you plan on using any Endless frame later, don't go for Rollerblade, their mounting holes are placed different and the frame won't be centered 😅 FR make good skates for normal to a little wider feet and are good for high instep with open shell (and Endless is designed for that boot, so just looks awesome)... Powerslide Next is my fave boot (love the Trinity, but of course wider frame selection with standard 165 mounting...) Next has good room in toe box but is fairly narrow in middle and heel area, which is perfect for me but for others might feel too narrow (the charcoal combat 90 version comes with rockerable frame, love it, 0.5mm rocker is best for urban speed, Endless is better for swively stuff though).... The Powerslide Zoom has pretty wide and forgiving shell but the stock liners suck 😢 The Seba Trix2 you see (banged up) in the video is really great too, maybe not as durable as hard shell but most comfortable skate I ever had on my feet 🥰 if you like the feel of softboots but with better support, response and power transfer it's perfect. The frame it comes with is not so nice though but it's not only for slalom, you can turn axles to make it a flat 80(and has 7 mounting holes like FR 1/2/3, so you can put on any frame but as it's a little less supportive than hardshells I would not go bigger as 90's)... I hear good things about Flying Eagle but don't own one, so can't say how they fit... If you wanna try, I would wait for the new X7D, has a 90mm rockered frame and looks soo good, maybe you would not even need to buy another frame... If you don't want a 100's or 5 wheel of course 😅

@ericbernardi8116
@ericbernardi8116 4 месяца назад
The FRX is the cheaper brother of the FR 1/2/3... Same boot, same liner, only velcro strap instead of ratchet buckle and the frame is mounted on plastic instead of metal plates, so a little worse in power transfer and frame connection... All parts are replaceable... So one of the best entry level skates on the market... You can use it for city, rink, slalom or marathon (with some bigger wheels I suggest) no problem... If you have a little extra money to spare you could upgrade to FR3 with the better mounting which is a little better for heavier big wheel frames like the NN... If not, don't worry I skated the FRX with 125's and it's fine 😊
