I wish you the best of luck when you have a warranty claim. I have an E-classic 1400 that I installed 10 years ago. I absolutely loved it till last year when it started leaking. Dealer said warranty won’t cover it. Almost impossible to get ahold of anyone at Central Boiler but when I finally did I got a run around of BS and finally told buy a new one. Moral of the story, it’ll be a cold day in hell before I buy anything from Central Boiler!!!!!!!

This is why I have the classic CL 6048. No gassification chamber. No reburning. No forced air. Just a big old box with a water jacket. It'll burn wet wood, dry wood, doesn't really matter. Very easy to clean out. Burns a bit more wood, but at least I can go get that in the summer when its nice. Lots less time in the cold taking a dust bath.

I know my Hardy outside stove is a whole different animal compared to CB, it's 17 years old and doesn't have any fancy reburn stuff on it. I go through about 3-4 cords a winter for heating and hot water and a third of cord of junk wood in the summer just for hot water but it does the job well.

I’ve been running a Central Boiler gasification boiler for nine years now and had to smile at your special tools for cleaning/maintaining your boiler. I had a set of modified tools for cleaning my old unit because I’ve had the same issues with creosote build up in the air charge system. With these units wet/green wood is not your friend! This year I replaced my old E-Classic 1400 with a new Classic Edge HDX 560. This new unit is light years ahead of my old boiler. I’ve only been running it for about three weeks now and can tell you that the maintenance is less complicated and much easier than the old unit. I also wear a dust mask or respirator when I’m doing the maintenance. One thing I would recommend purchasing the flue brush kit p/n 390 to clean the heat exchangers. I bought one from my dealer when we purchased the new boiler and it really works well. It cleans way better than the scrapper and is worth every penny.

Excellent video Tony. I have a CB550 very much like yours. I've burned four full years, starting fifth. Have you checked the air passages inside the firebox? Mine came with one panel under door and one connecting panel on each side. At first I removed all those panels each year and they were jammed with creosote. Nasty job to clean. CB came out with a revision to panel under door and tubes on side. I installed their revisions and have not removed for inspection in 2 years. I recommend the tube upgrade to anyone with the older panel system. I have much better air flow out the side tubes. I'm very happy with my CB, but there is a learning curve and your video definitely helps.

Back in 90s they sold crap lines with these, they became fragile and many people had lines break in ther winter. In lewis county ny i helped replace a few with friends. The gave free lines, discount on new insulation, but friends had to pay for digging up, and work labor. After 2nd break in one winter i stopped suggesting them, hope they figured that issue out

I would check for a legal standard because the legal standard in the United States for warranties cannot require you to purchase specific items in order to maintain a warranty. At least not in general it also, from the design of that it looks like the use of anthracite coal might work very well in that particular unit anthracite coal Burns relatively clean and much hotter than the wood that you're using. And would burn for a longer period of time. It would require you to shuffle The Underneath side about once every 12 hours but you could set that up with an automated device to accomplish that.

I think you might be correct about the warranty, they told me I couldn’t use the glycol I purchased because it would interfere with there corrosion inhibitors. I was uneducated about all of it and in a rush to get the installation done. I just followed there instructions and used only water in my system. Thanks for watching I appreciate it!

I had one of those stepper motors slip on the collar where the chain connects and cause stove not to heat up it was a pain to figure out/ motor was turning from computer but not opening valve no air no fire not sure ifs common failure watch out for that

I had a older conventional Central Boiler for many years with good experience. I kept a couple parts on hand as spares. A circulating pump, fan motor and a solinoid for the dampener. I wonder if the two similar looking dampeners on this stove are the same part #? Either way, I would pick up a spare, for the dirtier one at least. To allow a quick swap out at the stove in cold weather and bringing the dirty part indoors for a cleaning and inspection at your leisure.

@@snakerstran9101 Yes I keep a few parts on hand. The stepper motor is the same on both so I have one spare and I have a circulating pump. I have been thinking about picking up a blower motor and then I’d have all the quick repairs covered. Thanks for watching I appreciate it!

There is always creosote when burning wood .. the problem is the heat.. if you burn wood above 20% you have a harder time burning it off.. at 30% you can't get the temperature high enough to burn it off and will have a chimney fire sooner than later.. your getting creosote from when it idols down and the smoke lingers not creating heat or draft..

This is a great video👍👍 Do you burn wood year round or just colder months? I put in a Central Boiler clasic in 2008 and absolutely love it. I can burn year round here in central Pennsylvania and have little to no trouble with creasote.

Thank you! I only run the boiler from October to about April. I don’t think I could keep it running all year without having a creosote issue. The gassers smolder to much and don’t allow the smoke to exit except when the fan runs every 20 minutes. It only runs for a minute or so jut to maintain the coals.

When I purchased 4 years ago or so it was around 9k. They have gone up a bit, I think they are around 11 now or maybe a bit more.

You cannot add too much moly armor also you can use a leaf blower to clean out the ash it's a lot quicker I do this with my 760 HDX

That could be? Central boiler is very particular on what chemicals you can use and even antifreeze. I had to run just water because I couldn’t get any of the approved glycol that they accepted in time to install my system. Restrictions like that kinda put the consumer at risk and I think they could be a little more forthcoming with the information before purchasing.

One thing Ive learned in all my decades of heating with wood. It burns much better dry than wet, I don't care what kind of firebox you have.

I've only seen one other person smart enough to wear a respirator when cleaning the ash area. Suggestion at 11:40 Put some electrical tape on both ends of 1 set of wires so you don't cross-connect if you ever pull both sets at the same time. Great video. I haven't seen anyone take the blowers off and inspect the pipes. I'll have to do that.

I appreciate you making this video. We will be installing this brand of boiler in our new house later this year when it gets close to finished. Now i know I need to check certain things when cleaning it. It is very nice that the firewood community here on youtube tries their best to help each other. It is very nice to show new and old owners what is all involved to maintain an outside boiler. It is not much different than a large boiler run on fuel oil, Lp, or natural gas. Water maintenance is many times neglected. It’s equally important to cleaning soot and ash. Tony this is a great service to throw this out there. I don’t have an outdoor boiler. I used to operate large boilers at my previous job. Later .

No, I’m not sure it has a gasket. There is an air charge tube and fire bricks that blows air down to the gasification chamber.

Very interesting that they attempt to force you to use their product. I believe the Magnusson Act says a manufacturer can not mandate which product you use to maintain warranty. Might be worth looking into.

I wasn’t very happy when I found out. I couldn’t use the glycol I purchased because they said it would affect my warranty. Something to do with there corrosion inhibitors reacting with it.

I to have a titanium 350 for 7 yrs and had found it to be a learning curve at first.Again I to was given minimal instructions on running or maintenance of the stove until I found a new dealer that had helped me orvercome the challenges.

Due to the 2012 Clean Air Act all outside boilers used for residential purposes must be high efficient "gasification." 8 years ago I called 3 locations before I found a place that would sell me one of the original models.

Nice, informative, relevant presentation. I think your problem with creosote stems from letting the fire go down a lot -- in other words running it with very little load or letting it run out of wood. Creosote happens in ALL of these stoves, and it happens when the temperature in the firebox goes low.

The two best things I ever did on my boiler are as follows , first thing I did was not buy a fricken emissions boiler . The second and most important was I bought a Crown Royal and never considered a central. Nice wood shed you have there.

I think the creosote build up is probably due to you not needing much heat with the warmer winter we're having so far. It's awesome you're going over your boiler and the steps and problems you've encountered and the fixes. Especially since I'm getting a Central Boiler too 😂😂 Be safe my friend ✌️✌️

Yeah I think that’s what happens, it’s been so warm the fire doesn’t run a whole lot it just smolders. I tried my best Darth Vader impression but it didn’t make the cut🤣🤣

Now the company has proof that you neglected to have proper level of chemical in your water. Could they us this proof to deny a warrantee claim?

They sent me an email alerting me that my level was low. The color scale on the home test kit is very subjective and not very precise. That’s why I need to send them a sample every year

Try increasing your water temp differential, most manufacturers recommend a 10 or even 5 degree differential. This is way too small in my opinion and experience. I use a 15 degree dif in the winter and a 20 degree dif in the summer when heating my pool. This gives me much longer and hotter burn times which helps eliminate most of the creosote build-up. Fewer, longer burn cycles is the key. You can also try using something like Fluid Film spray in your blower tube. I use it on all my most sensitive build-up areas, and it works great to reduce creosote.

Thanks Sam! I’ll check out my temperature difference for sure, I think it’s set at 10 degrees but I’m not sure. And I’ll definitely give the fluid film a try, I’ve been looking for something to use on the damper lids to prevent buildup.

Hi George! Yes I would recommend a central boiler but I would urge everyone to do their own research. I don’t have experience with any other brands, I chose a central boiler because of the location of boiler dealers in my area along with the warranty. Friend of mine had a classic years ago after 5 years it began to leak . When he called about the warranty it was prorated 20 year so he was responsible for 25% of the cost plus freight to return it to the factory . They did ship it back to his closes dealer after the repair but he was responsible for reinstalling it

Yes the outdoor wood burners have a bit more routine maintenance to them. I’m not sure how often the older non gasification boiled need to be cleaned.

Nice video! I think you can remove the tie down bracket that is above the ash door. CB sells a flat brush for cleaning the exchanger. It is part number 390.

I’ll have to check that out thanks! I use a nylon bush at the end of the season once I’ve let the fire go out. It’s flexible and it helps me get the hard to reach places.

I have the 560. The installation instructions said to use one gallon of moly armor. I remember watching a central boiler video about you can’t add too much, so I put a gallon and a half in it. Went with the old saying, “if a little will do you a little good, then a lot will do you a lot of good.” lol. What are the dimensions of your wood storage? I’m looking at building a new one and I like the size of it! Thanks.

@@TCsOutdoors1 I have a bunch of cleaning videos on my EC 1450. You should check them out every week. I spent about an hour and a half cleaning the boiler scraping it back it all out starting all up all over again. Ever since I started doing that 6 -7 years ago it’s worked really well.

Excellent video. Nice setup. I have some additional info for you and your viewers. I'm in my fourth season with a 750HD. I've had the primary flapper stick aswell but I've also had coals come back through the primary and start toasting the wires for the steppers? I think a few wind storms reversed my draft momentarily? I'm not sure if the 350 and 550s have the same problem, but if you have a 750 then the fix is easy. If it is similar on the smaller models it should cut down on the creosote build up. At least it did for me. The next time you check clean the primary air channels locate the air hole in the front panel nearest the tube out to the primary elbow and plug it. I used stainless hardware, 1/4" by 1" bolt, 2 fender washers 1.25" OD and double nuts. Clean the hole, sandwich the washers and lock the nutz. No more issues, have 30 ~ cords through it since.

The ultimate lowest moisture content is governed by your climate. I was schooled by a guy from Europe. The term is EMC, equilibrium moisture content, wood workers and carpenters should now this, I didn't. Anyways they have charts online that give multi year averages for different areas. You can search your area to see what you can hope to achieve with well seasoned wood. The emc numbers work down to freezing. My 750 came with a moisture meter. I cut a few sample pieces in half and go by an average of the center and edge. In wetter areas it gets harder and harder to dry the center. If your center is still wetter than the outside try splitting smaller. I'm in a dry area, 5 years into a drought. My meters read 12 or less on any split wood over a year old. Trade off is it gets real cold, hence the 750.

You're getting creosote because it hasnt been cold enough to make the boiler really work. Its been smoldering all winter. But based on the trouble you and a few other people are having i know i will never have a gassifier. Too fussy to be dependable for me. Take care Tony

I'm curious if you have cut down on the quantity of wood added at fills during the warm spells? Maybe a 1/2 full or 1/4 fill. My experience was a big load would smolder more than smaller loads, even if you have to add a extra fill.

Hey Alex! I think I would have went with the next size larger just incase of additional heating loads down the road. Other than that I’m happy with the central boiler, I don’t have experience with any other brands though.

@@brokenpinesfarm They rate them BTU load, I think there’s an online calculator to help figure that out based on your square footage. I had all the information I needed on the blueprints for the house.
