DON'T MISS This Pikmin 1+2 Switch Feature!

It was VERY easy to miss!! The end of day diary summaries were very hard to understand or remember, since half the time I couldn't tell if they were telling me something I already knew vs giving unique/important info. But the bigger UX problem is that the "controls" screen is hidden behind using the "right" button on the d-pad. I discovered both at the same time - and only after I did googling because I couldn't figure out how to beat the frogs. 😅

it was one of my favorite features but it's not in 3 if I recall correctly. you can definitely play the game without it though.

Every single streamer I've seen so far has missed it. I honestly believe they missed the feature in the Gamecube Originals, or only played the Wii version with its TERRIBLE replacement. (The Wii version allows you to send them to where the cursor is onscreen, in a Gigantic Target of a circle, as opposed to the more dense groupings seen here) I think its also why a large number of people mistakenly believe theres nothing wrong with Pikmin 3's controls, considering they had to add in a dodge button that honestly doesn't work well for me. They simply don't know how good the initial controls were.

​@@CrystalorbieFor whatever reason they cant leave targeting alone. Between whatever new play control was cooking and the modern lock on/swarm systems, I'm convinced they'll do anything to not leave it alone

Apparently, as I’ve seen a lot of people not using it. The game doesn’t like force you to do it before continuing like a lot of modern day games would, so if you don’t actually read the tutorial fully you’d miss it. And what’s probably compounding issues is that Pikmin 3 doesn’t have it at all, so those that played 3 Deluxe on the Switch first probably wouldn’t know any better.

​@@mateo0123Fortunately, Pikmin 3 has a charge feature instead, which acts like a much faster and directed swarm, so not ALL is lost.

​@@mateo0123thankfully its returning in pikmin 4, albeit as an upgrade you get. hopefully its easy to unlock.

As someone who never played Pikmin before this version - it was definitely mentioned and not hidden. But it's very missable, that's true 😂

not really, sheargrubs eat pikmin pretty slowly so you can swarm one and kill it before it finishes eating your pikmin

@@pokemonsushi-chinglao8235 That is, unless you're playing Pikmin 1, where there's this glitch where if the Sheargrub snags a Pikmin, it will be invulnerable to damage until the Pikmin is killed. (You can save it by throwing a Pikmin directly on top, but this is way harder than it looks)

Yeah same, except I’m on the hole of heroes in pikmin 2 and I wondered why I was having so much trouble with the ranging bloyster. Also wondered why I could never get the funny bugle charge sound effect which I can’t find any trace of on the internet lol

Is it less likely in pikmin 2?

@@joshcoy6748 In pikmin 1 swarming around certain enemies can have them die, but there won't be a death animation. They just disappear. It happens sometimes in 2 but more in 1.

@twink3282 when I tried to swarm wollywogs, much of my pikmin were crushed.

@@joshcoy6748depends on how good you are. a good captain know when to swarm and where to on an enemy. if done right its very powerful

Same. Honestly it made 3 unplayable for me and I really hope Pikmin 4 has it again. It was super useful for just getting your Pikmin to avoid attacks.

@@TheSattocsit does, it shows how to use it in the control guide, confirming it’s existence in Pikmin 4. Also yes it’s an upgrade (obviously)

You got charge instead, I mean it's jankier and only good for offense, but hoo boy it is there

@@TheSattocs 3 is still really good. It'd be my favorite if it was longer. I missed the challenge of the dungeons. The world itself was good though

I already knew about it, and trying to swarm caused a lot of my pikmin to parish, did I do it wrong I wonder.

It isn't hidden. It's in the tutorial that everyone is skipping lol

It is! The in-game ability list in the Pikmin 4 Demo lists it as an unlockable ability.

If it really changes the game that much to you, you could try holding down the L button manually in some way (Tape, etc.) the old camera controls from the GameCube version are still there, like recentering the camera to Olimar
