Hey FInntastics! If you want to get more insights what Finns think about foreigners, check out this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vmo_sZ0Apwk.html
I just saw Marko Heitala translate the song "Voice of My Father" .He did it in english for the first time. I think it was hard to translate because of the creativity. It sounds different in English. It was good. In Finnish the song is more enchanting.
I was in Finland a few weeks ago and needed some help. I approached a local, asked him nicely if he could help me or at least tell me where I can go. Not only did he help me, he even called me the next day to follow up and give me more tips. I learned that a finn looking like he is mad can actually be the most nice warm helpful person in the world.
I will move to Finland, when I can pass an interview for work: D (i'm programmer) In Moscow, it’s now 0°C, when in Helsinki it’s just +5°C)) Awesome channel!
@@AleksiHimself In the Russian Internet (IT forum), there is such a publication habr.com/en/post/358362/ There, a person describes his move, in detail Many capable Russians are considering moving to Finland because nearby and the climate is similar, most of them are IT specialists It would be very nice if you suddenly manage to comment on this somehow. There in Russian, but can be translated through google translator
Hi Aleksi! I started watching your videos because my boyfriend was offered a job in Finland. We arrived this week and I can't tell you just how helpful your videos were, from language tips to what to expect from the people and Finland culture/food. Just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to do this and providing so much insight, it is really appreciated. Keep up the good work! All the best luck to you and your endeavours!
I don’t know exactly which is THE most expensive (probably Hawaii or California) but I came from Maryland, which is pretty high up the list. It’s where the US capital is, so... no surprise there I guess Edit: Apparently Maryland is literally pound for pound the most expensive state to live in, so that’s that
Funny you should say that. I live in one of the most high-cost urban areas in the US. When Aleksi mentioned some prices in other videos, the relative prices seemed slightly LESS expensive than my place in the US (with my assumption being that I would earn roughly there in euros what I now earn here in dollars).
@@AleksiHimself Aleksi, it has to be Hawaii (especially Honolulu), New York City, and certain cities in California (i.e., Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Palo Alto and DEFINITELY Atherton, CA near Silicon Valley).
I always watch and listen to your video's. I have lived there for a short while and I loved it. The last time I came I drove there with all my builders tools and worked for some friends. I'm still working on the language 😩
Helo Ken Moss Kimtan Mostas,I'm Rajesh Ghosalkar.living in India. I'm searching any worker job in finland. I can do any work in finlad. If you have any work for me please sugest me.thank.you
@@AleksiHimself Used your Yango code as well so that tomorrow's taxi ride, once I land at Helsinki airport, becomes a bit cheaper. 😁 Additionally, I saw your videos about how difficult it is for foreigners to get jobs in Finland and I've to say that in my case, it was actually very easy. As you rightly point out in your videos, this very much depends on the sector and as I work as a Scientific Researcher, I didn't face any obstacles at all. In case you're searching for new topics for videos, I personally would be interested in one where you talk about reasonably priced sports centres and gyms in and around Helsinki or how to find related discount offers but then again, that's just something personal so it might not resonate with the needs of your other viewers. Nonetheless, kiitos Aleksi. Nähdään siellä. (This is my few cents worth of Finnish, courtesy, Duolingo 🤣)
Ah! Aleksi, I see you received my e-mail regarding the 'langauge' :D Thank you for your work. I've been learning quite a lot in your finntastic course! Thank you!
Yea thanks for that! I haven't replied yet but I will later. Can't believe you're the first person who comment about that until now. It's been for years like that. :D
I agree with all the 10 things to know before moving to Finland, and more :) Especially the fact that they don't use small talk and the seriousness.Dream country for me after being in various countries around Europe for many years.Preparing to visit this year. Probably in the winter.Or maybe sooner. And if i like there i am not coming back for nobody and nothing :D .Finland looks marvellous.
Hi, while I do support Aleksi's recommendation to come visit before you move here, I would advise not to pay that much attention to that first or second impression, because it might a tricky one. I visited here mostly in the cold season and once in the summer and it was always cold. Of course I had with me clothes bought from my home country, so made for a slightly different kind of winter. I had zero problems going through my first winter in Finland because we have appropriate clothing, at a wide range of prices and everything here is adapted for people to be comfortable through the long harsh winters. The darkness is not as dark, especially in the cities, where the authorities organize all kinds of light festivals, the cities are decorated, people decorate their windows and balconies, so it's actually quite nice to walk around the city and enjoy all the lights. I'd actually say the almost neverending light in the summer was weirder for me. But then the vibes in the cities are totally different and the Finns truly come alive in the summer.
What a helpful video ! Thanks a lot for putting this info out there. Every tool you mentioned is great ! I just saved this video to watch it many times so I don’t miss anything before moving in. Your videos are very cool and funny :)!
To be fair, you can wear a t-shirt all year round this year, seems like we're having a winter heatwave 😂 as for cost of living, I'd say cost of living in Helsinki is fine compared to other capitals because of accommodation costs, but everything else is pretty expensive by global and even European standards. As for foreigners having a harder time finding jobs, I'd say there's definitely a hierarchy within foreigners too, in that it's not much more difficult if you have a western/central European name depending on the industry, but might be harder for people with names from other areas. Outside of that, great video as always 🙂
Thanks Joe! Always great to hear your insights. I'll try to address the cost of living topic more in detail. And the weather is definitely warmer than before. :D
@Aleksi You should talk about housing too, because not everyone is willing to work for a company / will have a job right away anyway ; I saw you have many options for housing but when I asked some agency like Lumi ; they said ' you need a Finnish ID ' and I told them we are part of the EU & EEA and they cannot discriminate against nationality (especially since we are both in the EU) but in the end ... after asking my Finnish mates ; they were probably talking about some kind of henkilötunnus which seemingly has nothing to do with citizenship. A bit of misunderstanding there, some said that they probably never had such a request.
Hello Alex, nice videos, I want to congratulate you, because you give a good information, and many details to consider. I had an important question to ask you. Your country needs skill workers with good licenses and credentials?, is there an entity as for journey men, where you can take the test, or if you have to continue working or studying for your journeymen license or ticket, such in Canada, or the commonwealth countries?. Finland has many similarities to Canada. Please whenever you can let me know. Again congratulations I really enjoy your videos, don't get discourage by negative comments. Greetings from 🇺🇸
Thanks Aleksi. Excellent and informative as usual. May you please discuss the ways to officially immigrate to Finland and the procedure of obtaining PR and even citizenship eventually? Thanks a lot. All the very best👍🏻
Haluan asua ja opiskella suomessa kun olen 18 vuotta vanha. Nyt opiskelen suomen kielta kursseilla. Minusta suomen kieli on vaikea, mutta en antaudu :P
Would it be possible for you to make a film about the school system in Finland, in particular about what is the approach towards kids with special educational needs, like kids with Asperger or autism. Thanks
About Helsinki, yes real estate there is expensive, but I understood that many Finns tend to live like in Vanta or Kerava and just commute to go to work in Helsinki for example. The distances are not very big too. :P
I've watched at least ten of your videos in the last three days, as an American currently planning on moving to Finland or somewhere that's not this dumpster fire, could you possibly make video explaining where Finnish people shop and how they get goods and services? Here it's pretty much, Amazon, Walmart and maybe a competitive grocery store. If you can that would be awesome.
Good stuff! When are you planning to move? Most of the stuff can be bought from hypermarkets Prisma and Citymarket. The Finnish Amazon is Verkkokauppa.com. We have also home electronic stores Gigantti, Power and Clas Ohlson. Each sector/department has their own stores for the most part.
@@AleksiHimself Currently my wife and I as well as a few friends are in the planning stages of where to go. Finland is our top pick and we're hoping to visit next year around June/July. I'm currently in school for to be a physical therapist assistant here, but that is only an associate's program and physiotherapy there requires a bachelor's so I'm trying to contact the certifying bodies to figure out my best path forward. My wife has a master's in Aba psychology an isn't sure how that will transfer either as Aba is fairly new and does not seem to be a field there. Realistically we're thinking 2-5 years, I'd like.to go sooner rather than later so it would be easier for our two sons to integrate.
Oodi (despite being a library, it's an interesting tourist place), the 2 cathedrals, Esplanadi park, the harbour area, some of the nearby islands such as Suomenlinna, the rock church, maybe the Sibelius monument too
Dear Mr.Aleksi thank you for your informative channel my question is that (is possible please to enlist the school and institute which teach Finnish for non-Finnish speakers (people)? thank you a lot your efforts are valuable
Thanks for the comment! Yes there definitely are schools & courses which teach Finnish. You can find them by Googling. Unfortunately I don't know about them at the moment.
I’m 15 now and i want to live in Finland and go to univerzity in Finland, i started learning finnish but i don’t know if it is a right choice and if i will be able to.... can you make video about tips for students? Kiitos
There is a whole playlist about studying in Finland. You don't need Finnish to study at a university here because there are lots of programs in English.
Olen viisitoista vuotta vanha ja opiskelen suomea ja se ei ole niin vaikea. Toivottavasti tulevaisuudessa kun olen 18 haluaisin opiskella Suomessa ja ehkä asua tuolla
Hi just randomly yr video popped up in my recommend Ed list, liked it. Hi I'm from India I'm here with my child n husband , he got transfered here. I like living here, but yes sometimes I do feel tht I'm being judged , I'm not a refugee I'm not living on benefits, v r paying taxes . And respect Finnish culture. But still sometimes I do feel tht v r not welcomed, n I feel sad abt it....
@@AleksiHimself when I'm athe play area with my kid, at the library these r the two places I mostly visit . May be I'm overthinking, maybe it's the language barrier....sson my baby will start ecec day care I hope n pray tht I get a chance to meet new ppl n more interaction with them on a regular basis.....I'm happy sad actually....
I would expect biologist might be able to get job without Finnish language knowledge if they speak good English. But I think you can get by with almost any single regular job here. It's not like in US where you have to have multiple jobs. Also we don't have tipping culture here so even waiters get regular salary. If you can't find job as biologist then maybe check what jobs that are high in demand Aleksi said. As Finn I think really important thing when learning Finnish is to how to pronounce letters in Finnish first. Because they are not pronounced like English and in Finnish letters are always pronounced the same. Also there are no silent letters, so once you learn letter pronunciation and see any written Finnish you will always know how everything is pronounced.
I have been in Finland since June and the biggest issue I have with Finland is the darkness in the winter. I don't think I will ever get over the winter darkness.
Update: We in Finland are having a rising nazi infestation now in our parliament, so I advice you to not support this and boycot this by not coming in here for holidays until we have repaired our little problem. It won't take long.
I wanna be an orthopedic surgeon but seeing that doctors aren’t paid like in USA makes me sad. But outside school I learn coding n entrepreneurship boot camps. I hope I can move there soon 🥰🥰
Until Australia is flooded with immigrants. Mono-culture became Multi-culture. Finland won't become like Australia thanks to its most-difficult language and climate as a protection barrier for its local people.
I hope you never become tolerant. Discrimination will protect your country. Check the security level between "discriminating" poland and tolerant france or germany.
