DON'T RUN OUT OF OXYGEN IN YOUR TEARDROP CAMPER! | We Make Custom Wall Vents for Ventilation

In this episode, we add critical airflow to our Camp EZ teardrop trailer. As many know, teardrops, squaredrops, and other tiny campers are super small spaces that can quickly be depleted of oxygen when someone is occupying the space. Airflow is critical to survival. We usually keep the windows open, but in this episode we're installing vents instead.
WARNING - This video is NOT INTENDED AS A GUIDE for installing or determining proper ventilation. Do your own research and consult a professional to see how much airflow your own camper will need.

Our windows are much smaller (11x17) & 14" above the mattress, so we don't experience that problem. Although I've thought about extra vents ( i also have a fan in the roof). I saw one teardrop have a rectangular vent at the front, so the breeze would cool them off at night. But then you'd have issues with water intrusion during travel, always something. You can never have too much ventilation, especially on summer nights. Great video Michael
@CampandCamera
@CampandCamera 2 года назад
Thanks! We also purchased an air conditioner that we hope to install in the spring. The vents should be enough until it get real hot though.

To close the vents during non use periods, print a snap on cover you can place over the inside vents.
@joecraft4409
@joecraft4409 2 года назад
I would add a “stand-off” for the inside vent covers to allow you to close off the vents when not needed. (Winter time?) use two pieces of 1/4” Baltic and use a piece of the your material you want to use for the vent closure and use it to place around the edges between the two pieces of B-Birch to use as a door guide/pocket to slide the closure door in and out.

You might want to come up with a way to close those, even if it's just a fitted square cover on the inside. If you go anywhere cold and/or windy, it's liable to turn your teardrop into a howling wind tunnel. Should be amazing in the summer time though! 👍

We keep airflow going even during cold nights. We just use an electric blanket. Airflow keeps the oxygen good and the humidity down.

Fantastic!! This is the first time I've seen a reason for me to get into 3D printing... Custom teardrop parts!!!🤯 I have similar issues with the curtain. Plus we live up north and often camp in colder weather. The cold air on your belly is REALLY annoying... ITo solve the same problem, I purchased yacht vent cowlings for the exterior vent hood and butterfly vents on the inside so I can dampen the incoming air volume. I haven't installed them out of fear that rain will come in while driving down the highway... Should I be concerned? Great channel!! Thank you! Kiko
@CampandCamera

It sounds like you have a good plan. Not sure about the rain. It would depend on how they’re oriented.

I didn't think of putting a vent in the side. I have tinted windows on my teardrop so I don't need curtains and its only one sleeping in mine so a 1 inch crack in 2 windows works great. I did do something similar for my dog house AC/Heater unit but I ducted it through the floor up the wall and my connection are under the camper.

@CampandCamera

From what I read, the filament I used (PETG) is supposed to be UV resistant. Time will tell on that though. Self-centering drill bits? I’ll have to check that out!
@laws282

Was wondering the same and was more concerned with the heat. There is a filament called ASA that is designed for automotive uses. PETG might just do the trick though! Very nice Michael. 👍

@CampandCamera
@CampandCamera 2 года назад
Unfortunately, airflow is a must even in cold weather. If the space were sealed up, we’d run out of oxygen after a while. We use an electric blanket in cool temps though, and find that it works well even with fresh air coming in.
@TrollEater
@TrollEater 2 года назад
Alternatively, a piece of velcro at the bottom of the curtain would have worked as well. You might still do that to keep the curtains down and force the air to come thru the vent instead.

Thanks for another interesting video! We (well, mostly my husband) are building our teardrop now. He's in the process of drawing up the template wall so he can cut out the sides. Would you recommend putting vents in during the build process? Some people (I won't say who) don't seem to think they're necessary, but I've heard other teardrop owners recommend them.
@CampandCamera
@CampandCamera 2 года назад
You could wait on the side vents until the build is complete. If you do a roof vent, (I highly suggest you do), you’ll need to build that into your roof during construction. Happy Camping!!

My mom went out to find a place to start a restaurant, and came home owning a drapery shop. I worked there. You can gather the curtains onto small cafe rods at top AND bottom, slightly stretched between the rods. That way they don’t flap around. Keep a slit in the middle so you can access the hardware.

We’re doing two vents; one on each side. I don’t know the CFM’s, but it’s definitely pulling more air than we’re exhaling.
