So... a couple things, from one farmer to another. One, while the glue may help hold the handle on the first fork, physics has been working wonders for years. Take a thin sloped wedge or two - like a small chopstick that tapers towards one end - and put them in the hole, leaving just enough room so that you can get the tang of your tool head in between, and then tamp it into the hole. This will drive the wedges in with the head, compressing head and wedges into the handle in such a way that you'll have to really want to pull it out (and likely need mechanical assistance) to separate them again. If you're just putting a wooden rod into a hole, you can cut a slot in the rod and then just barely tap a flat wedge in, thin end facing into the rod, and then insert the rod into the hole and tamp it in. Same principle applies but even better - as the rod goes into the hole, the wedge is driven into the rod, expanding it and holding it in place. Second thing - I'm 6 minutes in and watched you slice half a metal cylinder up one side fairly easily using your angle grinder, and now I'm watching you struggle with a screwdriver and pliers to pry the cylinder off. Are you saving it? I'd have cut the plastic one off in favor of the metal, but that's just me. Anywho, you've got 360 access and an angle grinder, so pick it up and slice the other side of the same cylinder, and it'll fall off. No prying required.

Wow, the amount of work that second took would make me just buy a new pitchfork. My pitchfork also broke like that. I drilled out as much as possible and took the rest to my barbecue grill. I fired up some coals and sat the tines in the coals and let it burn the remainder out. Just an idea.

I thought about doing that, but I wondered if it would have weakened the metal?

I don’t trust anyone talking garden tools unless there’s a barn in the background and a rooster crowing in the distance

That's sad, you are going to miss out on some great information. Cause when I do repairs they are done in or around my shop. Not in the chicken coop or the barn. Unless I need to borrow a wrench from the cow.. thanks for watching.

You do not have to cut the metal cooler off, completely. I just cut mine back about three inches and then spread the end of the cooler with a screwdriver. I then just pulled the tines out. I had my hammer ready incase I had to tap them out. I did not. I installed the tines in a new handle the same way you did - wire wheeled the tang and coated it and the hole with glue.. I then drove them into the handle with a hammer.

What about a Root Fork they take a lot more of a beating popping out roots and the levrege and pressure put on a plastic sleeve and gorila glue tip does not seem like it will go the mile but then I have not tryed yet but?? Good video other wise and completely right on the aspect of being in the mood, ready to roll , out there hustlin' Makin ' good time workin' on a beautiful day and head fly's off ( that had me laughing ! Been there many times ) always seems to be that day though when everything else is going well ! Sometimes gods' a real asshole ! I spite him and bring two of everything to the job now

The root fork is great for helping bust up ground but not sling hay and this video was more about replacing a handle than anything. It just happened to be a pitchfork. Thanks for watching. Hope you hit that subscribe button and rang the bell

Sorry you feel that way but it has been almost a year and the pitch fork is still going strong and we use it everyday right now. We are moving woodchips, spent hay, grass clipping and compost. Sometimes the best things come from "bad ideas" . Thanks for watching, hope you hit that subscribe button and rang the bell so you can see future videos and livestream.
