And rice in a cup tastes even better... at least to me lol. Idk there's just something about it. There's a certain cup that makes its taste amazing if that makes sense.😂
Shayla clark The thing is, your nose and tongue and eyes work together to sense the flavor. If you mess up something on one of your senses, you mess up the flavor you're tasting.
simplyxojulia You're really close! Olfactory is one word, not two. And it's smell and taste that work together. Sight has another influence in it all, but it's not part of the olfactory system.
Allison Hook Yeah, it's a documented effect. I read it in a book that a brand of soda, most likely 7-up but I could be wrong, tried lemon flavour with more or less yellow on the can, and most people swore that the more coloured was a different, highly flavored formula of lemon drink.
A RU-vid User The senses for gustation and scent run through the same nerve and requires some amplification from the olfactory system. Doesn't matter how good the brain is.
A RU-vid User your tounge senses and sends nerves to the brain for example You eat a spicy chip.Your tounge is like “oh this is spicy let me tell the brain” then the brain makes the body react to the chip by sending heat signals
Your taste buds aren’t useless. They work together with your nose to help you taste. It’s like taking away your brain and saying your heart is useless. It just doesn’t make sense.
from what I remember from a class once: tongue = the 5 basic tastes, and flavour = smell + taste. so without smell there is no flavour of a jellybean, just the sensation of sweet
You know what I realized, this buzzfeed channel has 13 million subs and their videos barely get over 500k views. Saf has around 3 million subs and pretty much all her videos get 3 million views
Close, but not quite right. Your tastebuds are only responsible for picking up on certain basic tastes, like sweet, bitter, salt and so on. Just because you can't smell the aroma (by plugging your nose), doesn't mean that the tongue can't function just the same.
M. D'anjou M. D'anjou I would like to expand on what Xiellion mentioned above. The tongue does what it is supposed to do, i.e., pick up the basic tastes. When separated from the other senses/ rendering the other senses limits the overall experience. That doesn't mean that the taste buds are useless, does it?? :)
Candy flavour is mainly based on smell. I don't have a sense of smell and I can't really tell what any candy flavour is. I know one type of say a skittle, tastes different from another but not what they actually are. I can also eat any bean boozle flavour no problem. The vomit ones are one of my favorites actually.
LOL. The vomit ones have an acidic taste to them so it's not just a regular sweet jelly bean. I'm assuming it's to act like bile I guess. My brother says he can't eat the vomit ones because they smell so much like vomit before he even tries to put it in his mouth. More for me I guess! I get all the gross jelly beans because no one wants to eat them haha. Win win
By getting rid of both Visual and smell receptors your brain no matter who you are in the world cannot differentiate flavors it is scientifically proven. Also when it comes to the hot chocolate it is also scientifically proven showing that the different shapes and cup Dimensions as well as color and material that the cup is made out of can change the flavor of a drink. This is primarily because smaller circumference to cup will flow the drink into different taste receptors versus a wider circumference cup. Also the height and width change the speed of the heat loss in the drink so the heat in the drink also can cause different taste effects. Look it up if you don't believe me.
You manipulated your coworkers so you could get views I knew that we all know that you’re running out of ideas Just make a video about what the favorite sport at buzzfeed is
Go to 2:34 and look at the girls glasses reflection. The mug is reflecting and looks like she's staring at it. That's awesome how that just happened to work out!
You like won't be able to taste anything that much when um yoir nose is um ... (Cant explain it)... Your nose is covered or without your nose...(nope still cant explain it...😐😐😑😑)
The nose thing I learned from when I were 3 fkn years old in the late 1970s!!!! Block your nose = BAD foods taste OKAY! Rudimentary stuff for a toddler to know! lol Really? The colour of a damn mug/cup makes some people assume that hot chocolate is coffee? What reality is this?! I for one know if it is hot chocolate or coffee by obvious taste, nothing about the colour of its container influences me at-all....lol For the record, I use a maroon mug, with bug mug, smokey clear glass cup, Green cup for my coffee or hot chocolate and have NEVER assumed one is something else if someone else made it for me!
What people don't realize is with the two cups affect, it is your tounge, but also your brain. I feel like they could've explained WHY it tastes different instead of just saying "your tounge is wrong" I mean it's literally the Placebo Affect. You assume the orange mug will taste different from the white, as the cups aren't similar, but it's just your brain making you think that based off of one aspect of appearance
Buzzfeed forgot the "here's why" Finished the video and still didn't know why lack of smell made it so you can't tell apart some foods, why don't the taste buds work? Why do you need both? Could you taste without a tongue???
Someone tried doing the wine one with me but with cake, they colored vanilla cake, one was pink and one was brown, so strawberry and chocolate, and she looked at the other girl who tried the cakes and was like, "So how did you like your strawberry cake?" And I looked at her while the girl answered and I said, "Are you using me as a social experiment, this is vanilla." I was so proud of myself but disappointed because I eat cake so often that I just know.
