@@LukasSRR Well, we wouldn't choose using Russian if there's no obvious need. The guide was most likely an ethnic Russian, and her using Russian isn't all that surprising. Riga is pretty diverse by the standards of that region.

@@Rainaman- that's what I heard. And that's why I'm writing it here in case someone comes to our country, so they don't overpay and have unpleasant stay. I like people from around the world and if I have a chance to help them here, I use it. I don't need anything from anyone, but sadly not all Latvians are the same :( I guess one person at the time. Anyway, everyone is welcome to Latvia and if for some strange reason someone thinks its dangerous, it's not true. Tourists are welcome, just don't overpay and you'll be fine. :)

We Americans grew up tipping.....we can't help it. I spent 6 months there 20 years ago. I dream about it now. The people were great....they just don't walk down the street saying hello to everybody they see. Best of times !!!!! I miss the people...

@@DeeDee-dd4kk Yeah, we are considered cold people. We are little mean to each other. Others think that we are racist or mean people but it's not like that. Our meanness has nothing to do with other person :D It's like Australians and swearing. You are absolutely right about right about people not doing small politeness like saying hello to everyone. 20 years back was different time, now things have gotten better. It's much safer less influence from Russians but still a issue. But I think that we are at the right track. Only weird thing that I noticed, lot of our youth and mid age people don't really know how to talk proper English. Ether way, I think when you come here it is a bit of getting used to but if you give it a chance then everyone would like the calm and not bothered way of living here :) I also glad that you enjoyed your stay here!

Es nesaprotu ko tu mēģini pateikt. Tu esi par vai pret krievu valodu Latvijā? Pārsvarā visi bilingvāli Latvijā runā latviski un angliski reti sanāk ka kāds māk krievu valodu. Un tad ir Latgale kur gandrīz visur visis runā tikai krieviski un knapi latviski.

Considering Latvians receive a substantial amount of discrimination in Western Europe, I doubt they’d want to project this on tourists who support their economy!

They don’t assimilate well and drive up the cost of living in bigger cities. Some Brits make assumptions based on their name in job applications. Frankly, the Baltic countries were one of the major motivating factors behind Brexit. In general, the West has always sort of considered Slavs an inferior group. If you’re a person of color, it may be hard for you to understand. A Polish school girl committed suicide a few years ago due to racial discrimination in Western Europe. It happens, my friend!
