I personally had no problems. But people kept telling me it was unsafe. They even had a sign painted on the wall that said “caution tourists do not walk for this street is dangerous . Timestamp 3:20
Unfortunately it is definitely dangerous, the whole hillside apparently. I came across this video looking for other people who did the same thing as me. I walked up those same steps in June 2023, but then I cut to the street that runs parallel to them as I didn’t feel safe on the stairs. The street was just as unsafe as I was immediately greeted by two men on a motorcycle who hit me in the head with a gun, fired a blank shot alongside my neck, and then stole my camera and phone. Now that I understand where I was walking, I was being an idiot walking with my camera out there, but it was strange because it was so close to the touristy area of Quito, you wouldn’t have guessed that it is so dangerous.
