Often the QA or alloyss differ between a supplied / direct sold product. I'm not saying that has to be the case here. But often it can be. Hi-Five is a great OEM for ratcheting spanners for example. But different customers will pay different prices for different alloys. (Facom and Mac Tools OEM, their reversable ratcheting wrenches with them).

@philipp594

@@PlasmaJunkie it's hard ... no one really does testing of this. Some designs are very similar so that you can easily tell the the OEM, for example Hanstools sells a ratcheting spanner that's just like the one from Stahlwille. But if you really want to know you got to go to Taiwan. A lot of companies have long standing suppliers for hand tools (at least the quality ones). Facoms ratchets for example are made in Italy. While other cheaper brands buy somewhere else every quarter. Pretty much no-one makes their own ratcheting spanners. The designer that made the original for Gearwrench is from Taiwan and went back there to found Hi-Five. Almost all the quality ones are from Taiwan.

Not true with Snap-on. Over 80% of their 19,000+ products are manufactured by Snap-on, here in the USA.
@tylerhuntsman3792
@tylerhuntsman3792 2 года назад
Most of Snap-Ons (roughly 80-90%) of snap-on hand tools are made, meaning manufactured and assembled in house. That means the brand being Snap-on, not blue point or any other tool on the truck. Also Cornwell (the oldest USA tool brand, has Snap-on beat by only a few years) is the same way, just with now less of their tools made in house. The bottom line to these high end brands IMO is when it comes to hand tools (wrench’s, ratchets, sockets, pliers even) paying the extra money does in fact prove to make a huge difference in performance. I believe if you still argue that point then your skill set as a tech doesn’t justify you buying those brands in the first place.

Research is the key to any hobby or profession when buying tooling or parts are involved. Really helps your wallet in the long run and is a bit time consuming but ultimately worth it. My uncle taught me how to source o-rings and other seals, parts, tools, and how to keep digging to the source all brands use as their own and how to work out a deal to buy direct from the manufacturer lol. We definitely made our competition scratch their heads when word got out about our pricing haha

Amen brother. Laser etching "MATCO TOOLS" doesn't justify making the price 2x than what the original manufacturer sets somewhere else. When I was young, I used to help my dad with side jobs. I used alot of his old matco USA tools and they are awesome and high quality tool. When I became a mechanic and jumped on the matco truck, I was expecting the same quality. I found out their tools are rebranded and are cheaper somewhere else. I felt cheated and scammed. I returned my metric wrench set and bought cornwells USA metric wrenches for $20 more

That's a good point. I own a bunch of Williams wrenches. Nice set of metic and sae cost me 170$ each. Williams is the sister company to snapon tools, same exact set cost 380$ each on the truck last time I seen. Mine are also black so in a mechanic setting its easier to spot the black Williams across the floor or on a buddies box then trying to figure out if the chome looking one is mine or someone else's. Same goes for mac. Black and decker own a huge amount of brands, you got dewalt, craftsman, black and decker, Stanley, porter cable, Irwin, Bostitch, Mac, and proto, plus quite a few other brands I can't recall. So that expensive mac truck is wrench is produced in the same facility the craftsman wrench is.
