I went to that exhibition by 'sagging off' (as we used to call it) from school. I saw Don's painting before I saw him live which was a day or two later at Liverpool Stadium. My breath was taken away on both occasions and I became a lifelong addict/fan of the great man. The paintings were for sale but not for exorbitant prices, but for a schoolboy they were way more than I could afford. I think they were just about £20, but I really couldn't be sure of that now (£20 was a very goods weeks wage back then). I don't know what my life would have been like without this genius.
I saw that exhibition, but as I recall (taking into account the long time gap!) I do not recall them being 'named' as such. I am not sure what you mean. by 'archived', do you mean stored somewhere or scans stored on file? But in any event I dont know! Sorry. I have signed print of his, but would love an original.
@@presence5426 Yes, but not at the gallery, it was as he entered Liverpool Stadium a day or two later. I also chatted to him when the band (different personnel) came back, probably in about 1980 after Doc at the Radar Station. I am afraid to say I can't remember anything that was said (it was a long time ago!) but I do remember chatting to Eric Drew Feldman on the latter occasion and complimenting him on 'Best Batch Yet' and 'Sheriff of Hong Kong'. He was very humble. Don looked completely scared and stressed on both occasions.
@@presence5426 .... should also have said that whilst I dont have any photos etc., I do recall that there was a catalogue of, if I recall correctly, about 21 paintings that I have seen on line. Let me check.
I've got a book (Stand Up to Be Discontinued) with some of Van Vliet's paintings in it, and of course some of them appear on the covers of his records. But I haven't seen any of the paintings in this video anywhere else, and they look good. It sure would be nice if somebody gathered together a bunch of his visual work in one big, fat book.
