I have learned about all the reasons to be against certain thrift store organizations. I thought it over and I decided that the kind people working in the stores have jobs because people like me have donated there. I also focus on the other moms who need the items I’m donating and there more likely to find them in a convenient local thrift store.

It's absolutely fine to donate single items from a set. My mother had a set of crockery as a wedding gift from 1966. The gravy boat got broken, but lo and behold, she found an identical gravy boat in a thrift store. She didn't need the whole set, just that item. A lot of people don't collect sets anyway; I used to just collect crockery in specific colours, they didn't need to match. I've stopped buying crockery now; I have enough. Instead, I am donating surplus crockery to refugees who have literally nothing. I also donate to thrift stores that aren't my favourite organisations, because they're open later and it's easier to get my stuff there. I am learning to be a lot less precious about where my stuff goes.

We are all advised to wash and dry thrift store items Before bringing them into your home. Bed bugs are insidious and they have come here from China with wealthy businessmen. In my building, it cost management almost $100,000 dollars to get rid of them. It isn’t solely the landlord’ responsibility. AND THEY THRIVE in clutter! It’s costly disgusting and demoralizing. How do you say to grandchildren “ 12:55 sorry, you can’t come until I get rid of the bedbugs? “
