This is Donell's 2nd album. The artists appearing in this video i.e. Usher, Big Boi from Outkast, Lisa "Lefteye" From TLC were all on LaFace Records (Baby face and LA Reid's record label). YoungBloodz and I believe T.I were also in the stripper room. The artists appeared in the video in support. The Model braiding Usher's hair is well known, as well. FYI, Usher did not blow up on his 1st album. He got more shine when he released the "My Way" album. FYI, before Social Media and Online platforms, videos played on TV listed the featuring info. Great review.
“My love is furious because I believe in blowing up spots” was such a crazy line because she literally was arrested for blowing up her boyfriends mansion 😂😂😂😂
Back then it was common for established stars to support and appear on a song or be in the video with newbies on the come up, especially if they were under the same record label. You will see a lot of this is 90s hiphop. TLC was already huge at this time, platinum and breaking sale records. Left Eye did this for a few different lesser known artists back then, even with one of the white Spice Girls from the UK. The night 2Pac got robbed and shot, he was only there to do a song with a lesser known newbie. J Cole is one of the few that still shows love like that for unknowns. Nowadays, Nikki Minaj does songs with lesser knowns, and as soon as they blow, they turn into opps on her!
You are so funny!! The beer bottle is really Colt 45 malt liquor, which was VERY popular in the 70s and 80s. This video represents that ATL lifestyle and its popularity for strip clubs. I love Donnell Jones's music, especially his album Journey of A Gemini 🎶
Bruhhhh….you can’t hang the Georgia flag if you can’t recognize the ATL & LaFace Records legends in this video. This dropped summer of 98’. At the time, Usher only had two albums out the most recent being “My Way”. Big Boi from OutKast, The Youngbloods & Rico Wade of The Dungeon Family also cameo in the Dungeon basement scene. And of course you have the legendary Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes with the feature. Although Donell had already released his debut album, this single put him on the map. Later in the year, he won an American Music Award for Best R&B Male Solo Album for “Where I Wanna Be”.
So the Bolt 45 is because you cannot use real brands in any commercial, promotional stuff unless you pay for it. This kind of thing is done alot, but not so brazenly because you wanna not call attention to what is just a prop lol
Also. This was a huge hit. Number 1 R&B song for like 8 weeks straight. But Donell was only huge during this album. He hasn't sustained thst high, bit he's well respected and considered a legend on par with Joe and Tyrese and Jaheim, gifted singers who are big for black folks but never really crossover in big ways
Google is free. We can't write and tell you the long musical history and catalog of Donell Jones. Or any music artists if you haven't followed their career. IN THE COMMENT SECTION. If you reacting to their music, just look them up. It's simple.
Donell Jones was a songwriter before he officially debuted in 96. He wrote some big songs for other artists including Usher which is one of the reasons why he is in this video as a cameo, the other being that they were label mates in LaFace records which is Babyface and LaReid’s label. TLC was also on LaFace and Bigboi from OutKast which was also signed to LaFace also made a cameo appearance
Theres a thing called advertising. It costs money. Ppl don't do it for free...A lost especially celebs. So yea Colt gets no props. Not a thng to do w affordability. Also the home design is a play on her arson charge at the time of the video.
