Hi Richard I was there in the grey MR2. I didn't catch you after my last stint (think you wisely began the long trip back) but thanks again for the passenger lap and words of wisdom throughout the day, hope to see you at another day. Great video too.

It was nice meeting you, I did go out again near the end of the day. I took the guy with the 2zzge MR2 out for 15mins so he could see the circuit before he went out in his car. I didn't actually leave until 17:30.

I grew up less than 30 mins from Donny and my dad was a marshal here in the late 90s so many great memories from the bocce super tourers. Craners is a fantastic section and the way it leads into the old hairpin is awesome. I’ve always felt coppice is an underrated challenge so please to see you give it a shoutout.

My goodness that Bentley is gorgeous. Happy to see Donington back on the channel, really like this circuit.

Love these track reviews, hoping I'll get back to the UK and get to try some of them at some point (used to live in the UK, pretty close to Brands actually, but didn't have a license at the time).

They're one of the best bits, I'm sure i could go faster through them but I need more practise and confidence.

I've got the same car (my pleasure of an old guy...) and I have almost immediately change for Wilwood 4-piston brake in the front (still with Ferrodo 2500). Beleive me, it changed my life...

@@RichardFanders that's for certain! Impressive how it still keeps up with modern cars today.

Same thing happened to me on a bike trackday years ago but he also backed off after moving back accross. Had to take to the grass on the left. Grass was wet haven’t got a clue how I stayed upright!

The track day I did uses point by. So the driver allowing the pass sticks his arm out the window and points either left, or over the hood for right. So there is no question about passing.

Great video Richard, love the track day ones! What I don't get is why the coach didn't stop the driver from pulling back in front of you? Surely he had seen you and knew what you were doing, but maybe there was some confusion in the car... who knows!
@RichardFanders
@RichardFanders 2 года назад
I'm not sure if it was the coach who took the wheel to prevent the collision or if she did it herself.

Friend of mine had an accident where you had the near miss. Talking to the marshals, it happens all the time at that very point.

Hi Richard. Great video and excellent driving! I'm thinking of doing my first ever track day, and Donnington is my nearest track. Do you think I'd be ok on an open track evening session, or should I book a novice (sessioned) day first? Thanks.
@blackknight1013
@blackknight1013 Год назад
Yeah, got to say you were right to say sorry no matter what the guy said. No indication and she moved to the racing line. Not getting past before the corner puts you in a dodgy position unless your 100% sure they have seen you and are letting you by. Not worth the risk on a track day where experience of any driver is unknown.
@RichardFanders
@RichardFanders Год назад
I agree.

Great video Richard, shame I was not with you in my new to me MX-5 the track day looked nice and quite just how I like it for avoiding them stone chips. I know your filming etc so I guess thats why you have the roof up. If you were not filming would you have the roof down for the fuller experience as I see you have a full face helmet. Keep the vids coming there great to watch and learn tips from. I must book a Donington evening track session after watching this :-) to experience rear wheel drive!
@RichardFanders
@RichardFanders 2 года назад
It was quite busy to begin with but got quieter as the day went on. Yes roof up for filming but to be fair I rarely have the roof down on track, I prefer the roof down at road speeds but 70mph+ is not enjoyable for me. I did have the roof down for a bit on that day but it didn't feel good, all I could hear was lots of wind noise and there seemed to be some turbulence that was making me feel uncomfortable.
@paulknapton7836
@paulknapton7836 2 года назад
@@RichardFanders Thanks for your feed-back, I get what you mean, I guess I have only ever done 70mph on the motorway with the roof down which I get your point track speeds are considerable faster. Hopefully I'll find out one day. How you get on with stone chips, from my experience Donington is one of the cleanest UK tracks, unless there has been an off in the gravel and a load dragged and dumped on track. Will look forward to the next vid!

It would be great to see you take part in a race. The Mazda MX-5 do a club series run by the BRSCC and they have an arrive and drive option . You'd do well.

MX-5 has the right power to weight. They are a good sports car. Hot hatches are not designed from the ground up to be a sports car...

Bbout the near collision and how Richard "should" have been aware of those things, I'm no racing expert but surely if you are commited to the corner and it seems apparent that there is space for you, wouldn't you go for it? That Golf divebombed all of a sudden despite it looking like it was giving space. If you have to somehow becareful when overtaking and not knowing whether or not its safe to overtake, then what is the point of overtaking if you have to constantly have to think this stuff when driving?

Are the roddisons brake pads more expensive per track day compared to others? I've done 3 track days and I've gone through a set of them, it would be nice if I could get more value next time I replace my pads.
@RichardFanders
@RichardFanders 2 года назад
I only got two dry days and one very slow and slippery day out of the Roddison pads, yet I got 4 dry days and 2 dry evenings out of the Ferodo DS2500 pads. The Ferodo are more expensive but have better performance and work out cheaper.
@02semiata

@@RichardFanders People seem to just love all things Roddison but when it comes to brake pads I stick to big brands lol. the Ferodo pads are great as you stated :). You should have a look into the AIM solo system if you're ever looking for some data/laptimes

I've nearly had a Catherham hit me on that very corner. I'd say you should have waited until the straight after that slight left as it's supposed to be overtaking on the straights only. Need to assume others haven't seen you
