This game deserves a remaster

It took me and my brother 10 years to beat this game, maybe 1-2 years was spent on playing the game, the last 9-8 years was us going back and fourth throughout the decade trying to beat the last boss fight, lost count how many times we got so close to beating it and every single time dying at the last second, when we finally beat this game it felt like we won the Olympics.

My brother and I used to play this game when it was still new. Never did manage to beat it despite spending dozens of hours trying to figure it out. He passed away a couple of years ago. Nearly choked up hearing some of the music and sound effects again after so long. Love each other, guys. It's later than you think.

I still remember the day i got this game my parents bought us the green DK edition N64 for christmas one of the best gifts we ever got we sunk so many hours into this game and the multiplayer sparked many a sibling rivalry

Omg, I actually watched the entire video and I don't regret it at all. I obviously didn't spend 12,5 hours straight on it. It took me a few days to watch it, but it was sooo worth it! The music and landscape in this game is like a combination of Ocarina of Time and Banjo Kazooie lol. I love it!

Desperately needs a remaster, this was the game my brothers and I played every single day countless hours!

A timeless classic,i hardly can believe it dates back from 1999,or better yet,i hardly can believe that we are living in mid-2022.

The game that got me into gaming at 4 years old. I'd say it's poetic compared to DK in the arcade.

There was 5 games that was my childhood. Donkey Kong 64, Super Mario 64, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, Tetris Attack, and Super Mario World. Nothing beats them even from today's videogames.

When I was a kid, I actually compared DK to my own loving father. That's how much I loved this game. We beat the final boss within a year or 2, and it took a few years for me to get all the golden bananas. My siblings never did get all the bananas. They moved on to other games, while I stayed in love with N64.

This game remastered with the graphics of DK tropical freeze would be abslolute banger

I love this game. I love collecting things. And the fact that each Kong has its own thing to collect, makes me feel like each Kong contributes to the overall adventure, and makes it feel larger in scope. Backtracking to tag barrels is also immersive, because it would feel too easy and convenient to just switch characters on the fly when you need them. I would lose interest fast at that point. Going to the tag barrels makes it feel more grounded and…tactful…maybe(lack of a better term) to go back somewhere to get the Kong you need. I like that. The Music is fun and beautiful, and captures the mood and setting of each part in the game. For instance, the Fungi forest theme is my all time favorite, and makes you feel happy as you are in this beautiful, joyous forest full of adventure and wonder. The Gloomy galleon is depressing, lonely and mysterious, and it’s respective theme captures that. The Boss battles are awesome and epic, with great music and fun and goofy ways to defeat them, which is fitting for Donkey Kong, as it is a funny and goofy game. The story is entertaining as well. Simple but fun and meaningful…to me at least. One more thing I want to point out is the Hideout helm level, where you have a time limit to complete the level, or K. Rool will blow up your island with the Blast-O-Matic. The Music, the time limit and the stakes give this part an extreme intense feeling of urgency. All in all this game quite literally was my childhood. It was the only game I played until High school with the occasional Mario, sports games, shooters and Zelda games. I still play it at present. Dk 64 is one of my top 5 games of all time and I highly recommend playing it if you have never played it before. It’s a Mythic adventure that’s fun, immersive, and beautiful. 11/10.

The game doesn’t look bad for the Nintendo 64. The characters don’t look too blocky and derpy, unlike Mario 64. You can tell Nintendo was pushing this game to its limits.

They need to remaster it for the Nintendo switch

This game is criminally underrated

I just hooked up my N64 to see if it even worked still…am 60% through the game now in a week lol. So much fun. So much nostalgia. Some of the puzzles I’m doing I think “there’s no way I did this as a kid.” The swimming dynamics are the only frustrating thing for me. Definitely something that is a massive downgrade but hey, I’m loving it!

One of the best games on N64 I feel should be mentioned more. I remember getting it on Christmas and it coming with an expansion pack just so you can play it bc the game had so much data

Beating this game was my proudest N64 accomplishment. It was not an easy task. The boxing match at the end was great. None of my friends ever got that far.

Man....I miss the 90s'. It was the best era of gaming, and this legendary game was one of the examples of that amazing time. Thank you so much Pack Attack. I had to come on RU-vid to check because in my childhood I never made it passed 3:42:00 and now I realize how easy it was and I use to think it was the hardest thing in the world

I remember trying to beat this game over 20 years ago in my childhood. Could never do it just started it again. I’ll be happy and satisfied if I can at least get halfway and 100 golden bananas lol.

I remember the slide race against the beetle in the desert level made me so mad as a kid.

I loved that ending audition skit, I found the one with D.K and Tiny really funny. Awesome video of course.

I started watching and then proceeded to just do the whole game again myself, did it 101% in two weeks time, probably first time i bothered gathering everything. You inspired me! Only thing that gets me so frustrated is some of those mini games.. the beaver one at the end is so freakin hard. I got so tired of the stressing music in the background after like 40 tries that I turned off the volume, made it in the first try after that..

Just completed my set of DKC games and now I got this in my recommended, the first N64 game I ever owned.

I only bought this game to get the expansion pack for perfect dark. Boy was I happily surprised

I have seen hell, and it's every room Tiny Kong had to go in that had Zingers in it. Also, that Lanky challenge in Jungle Japes (Zingers), the Chunky challenge at the beginning of Angry Aztec (Zingers), the inside of the fish in Gloomy Galleon (a Zinger), DK's first challenge in the log cabins near Candy in Crystal Caves (Zingers), and the second Dogadon fight (C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER...or is he secretly a Zinger, too?)! ~_~ 1:20:03, 1:33:58, ??? (whenever you went into Tiny's and Chunky's rooms), 4:32:59: So, anyone besides me hear "DARTS!!!" here? There's no way in hell that sounds like "GET OUT", what he's allegedly supposed to be saying. D: 1:50:32: ...And THAT'S why I never used the mushroom! 4:34:39 and at least one other spot: That Kasplat was hit by the Zinger's orange. How is he not protected against friendly fire? (Also, how is a wasp able to throw oranges at things?) 4:43:00: I actually managed to get that banana before it disappeared! I think you still have to do the Klaptrap fight, though. circa 5:02:00: *WHOMP'S FORTRESS RIPOFF INCOMING* Also, why do those Klumps respawn so quickly? D: 5:37:43: ***SLAM!!!*** ...says Kasplat, on the exact frame that Lanky does precisely that. xD 6:07:00: Behold, my least favorite banana in the entire game that doesn't involve Zingers. You are a saint for going through that ship without taking any damage! >_< 7:29:35, 9:17:31: Well, this is the definitive proof that I need that you're playing the Wii-U Virtual Console version of the game. You had me fooled at the beginning with how well the first half of the intro story kept up with the music, but... (For the uninitiated: Nintendo "fixed" all the framerate issues that this game had originally, but this fix introduced new bugs such as making Krazy Kong Klamor impossible without cheating.) 8:19:55: Why is there molten lava in an ice cave? (The second Dogadon battle features lava inside a tree. I finally after some time found my N64 again in a hidden box, ordered myself an adapter (RCA-HDMI) and now I`m playing my childhood all over again! Started a few days ago and already at 70% completion... The mini games are destroying my bloodpressure though haha (and neighbours coming to my door and asking if there is an ongoing fight in here). Best Donkey Kong game of all time

Apenas retomé el juego desde cero, desde que lo compré nunca lo podía terminar, ahora me parece genial jugarlo...

I don't know why people say this is a bad game. It's great.

Donkey Kong 64 with the very first video game I ever owned and played on an N64 on Valentine's Day in 2000. But it took me until 2004 to actually reached the final boss because I had to get the Nintendo coin from the Donkey Kong arcade machine. And at one point I did manage to get all but two golden bananas and they were both in the Crystal caves. Diddy's cabin near Candy's and Lanky's race with the beetle were the only two I never got

Oh wow. I was still playing Donkey Kong country mainly 1 &2 and i am completely unaware of this game! LOL

This games need to come to Switch, HD remake and Widescreen :) Not as the Super Mario All Star 3d when SM64 locks like crap :)

this game was my childhood and truly is Donkey Kong 4 IMO (after the classic SNES Trilogy of the three Donkey Kong Countries). not only does it make the most sense story wise but it has the most versatility and gameplay since those games. i played this so much on the N64...i actually managed to 100% it but i lost the file cause it got deleted :( for anyone who has played DK 64 you know how much i suffered to do this...it is like Banjo Kazooie level difficult... i always used to wonder why K.Rool had a floating island base...then i saw the true ending of donkey kong country 2 and was like "ah...that's why"

This and Goldeneye kept me going when I was like 5-6 years old bro 😭🔥

holy hell, I played this game as a kid and I was just messing around on the piano and I started to play the song from the beach at 15 minutes. I'm shocked I found it and kinda remembered it I knew it was like banjo kazooie, Mario, zelda, or donkey kong but it was driving me crazy!!! that shit is bananas

wow ! bring me so good memories! was too young to read and i couldn't play it properly, but this game have aged pretty nicely honestly !

That teleportation banana zip sound is just... Great nostalgia. I loved it so much as a kid.

Thank you for this gameplay and all the hard work! I remember when I was a kid that I didn't manage to go further in the game I literally stopped at the first boss and never completed it. This game was kinda difficult tho

Well, this is nice. Back in the days, I bought my N64 together with this game, but I didn't really know how to play it properly, I wasn't even aware that such a thing as walkthroughs exisited. So I ended up exchanging it for another game. Even though I'm not a DK fan, it's great to finally see how it is meant to be played.

Thanks for the memories. I loved this game. Never finished. Hopefully gets released on Switch.

A little known factoid is in Fungi Forest there is a hidden 5-Banana coin in a tall patch of grass over by the mills. It was assumed there was only 976 5-Banana Coins until 2017 when the Data Miners found the 977th one over by said location.

In 2000 i remember when i got this on my 11th birthday I would sometimes also play this game after school before doing any of my homework and going to my karate lessons on mondays and wednesdays as a kid and I really would like to see it on switch man it would be to re live my childhood feel like I'm 10 and 11 again to right my 1st year in middle school to
