This is a single segment speedrun of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, played on a North American SNES console, and completed in 40 minutes, 45 seconds (New Game until final Kremkoin drop). This run was obtained on August 18th, 2014, and aims for the fastest possible completion of the game.
This run is an update over my previous 41-39, with a majority of the time (about 55 seconds) being saved due to a new wrong warp being discovered in Bramble Scramble, which skips about 90% of the level.
I'm not really sure what to say about this run. I had been slowly improving my time in this category ever since the wrong warp was first discovered, but then I took about a month long break to focus on other projects. Then one day (after a bit of practice), I turned on my console, did one attempt, and got the run you see here.
The biggest mistake in this run is the fight against King Zing Sting, which cost about 3 seconds. There are other miscellaneous errors scattered about, such as a sloppy early game, failed Kipples swap in Glimmer's Galleon, a poor attempt at the Kloster wiggle in Mudhole Marsh, and a very safe end-game. However, skill-wise, this run is about equivalent to my 41-39 before the Bramble Scramble wrong warp was found, so I'm content with it for now. As of this writing, no one has gotten a 40 by Japanese timing standards (40-40 or less by NA timing), but I will try to achieve it by the end of the year.
