Looks much more faithful to the SNES version, that's a great mod. Would have been cool if the game had an option where you could switch between the original palette or the more saturated one.
@@fishmrincthe games were made to be able to be played on all GBAs not just the SP that's why it allowed for the maximum amount of people to enjoy it, plus you can turn the light off on the SP
Impressive - but do consider the fact that the reason the colors are the way they are is due to the low light of the GBA screen that the game would've been displayed on.
Yeah, but with so many modded Game Boy Advance on the market (and so many people playing on emulators), it's nice to have a recolour without the excessive gamma correction.
@@mjfilho33 That's the most noticeable correction, but according to people who have actually tried to fix the GBA trilogy, it's more complex than that.
Ports like these are often a downgrade in graphics, sound and sometimes even quality overall, but they're often an upgrade regarding content. And more importantly, they're limited because of the GBA's capabilities being a handheld console.
thats because the gba dkc trilogy werent ports, but remakes made from the ground up, since they couldnt use the original assets nor the code for the original engine. The mario advance games are actual ports, since they run on mostly the same base code/engine as their original snes versions.
Looks as good as SNES.. Brilliant! I hope that DKC 3 (GBA) will get similar restoration into visuals, since the GBA - version is actually the best version already.
O cara por trás dessa hack fez um trabalho muito bom!! A tela do GBA é muito escura, então as cores originais ficariam muito difícil de enxergar... Só que jogando no emulador, não fica nada bom, então essa restauração cai como uma luva hehehe!
Yeah l just watched one of Scott the Woz video how the Mario advance series was like that, would have been awesome if they did have the backlight at the start of the GBA life as both Mario advance and DKC would have looked so much better !
@@Anakunus People still overwhelmingly had the original GBA and not the SP. Even with a backlight the resolution and screen are so low the saturated colors make it easier to discern details, which here makes sense considering it's a game that uses 3D realistic models and backgrounds that easily would blend together on a small screen
How wouldn't they? Kirby Super Star Ultra is a great example of SNES ports on the SNES. One screen for the gameplay, another for the stats.@@michaelhockaday7426
@@Ghst-kr2uk Though it removed the shooting gallery from DKC GBC. The only content that was removed. Adding that would make this restoration 100% DE for sure.
@@Ghst-kr2uk The only extra content that is worthwhile IMO is the new world Pacifica added in DKC3. Those extra levels are decently fun, though not quite up to par with the original levels. They also added a new boss to both 2 and 3, but they're quite bad IMO (and look absolutely hideous as they don't match the quality of the original graphics at all). The photo gallery would be kind of neat if it weren't for the images being so low res, you can find high res versions of most of these online anyway. The rest of the content boils down to minigames. Fishing, dancing, racing etc. These range wildly from decent to bad. And I personally don't consider the extra content worth the enormous downgrades that were made to the audio and visuals in the main game. Even the basic movement feels pretty off. If this content could be added to a hypothetical definitive edition using the SNES versions as a basis, then i'd be more welcoming of it as a novelty for those who want it (and something that can be ignored by those who aren't interested). But as it stands, i'd much rather play the SNES versions than GBA.
I'm inclined to disagree, honestly. There's a fair amount more of variety in the SFX and voice clips, small flourishes like the little critters roaming around in levels such as Jungle Hijinx, Grant Kirkhope as DK and Chris Sutherland as Diddy like in DK64, new content like DK Attack, minigames, and you can save whenever you want. You also now have a checklist to see which levels have and haven't been fully cleared which is helpful for completionists. Small carryovers from the later DKC games as well such as the tagging SFX, bonus stage title cards and KONG letter sprites. The only major downgrade imo is the music quality, the GBA sound hardware was rarely ever used to its full capabilities, I feel like.
@@RainbwSpctrm TL;DR: They really did a poor job making it clear what these ports really are (remakes or enhanced ports), and their nomenclature doesn't help one bit either. That's why I said what I said below. Not a fan of the hand-holding stuff you just mentioned; the original is perfectly fine without all of that. Call me a purist or whatever; I'm proud of the generation I came from that has no problem with a game testing my wits and intelligence rather than insulting them with this type of needless, 'spell it out for me' stuff. I also see no problem with the original cast; they should have made a new game if they were going to needlessly change up so much stuff. Nothing that was changed was broken enough to warrant the change. The mini-games, etc. are clearly boring padding nonsense that will last as long as the "allure" of maximizing the 3D on a 3DS. The SFX sound incredibly stupid and are very annoying, and take away from the simplicity of the original...it's like some pathetic try-hard attempt at something *else* that isn't necessary. Whoever thought Kremlings should sound like that when you kill them needs to get a CAT scan. To each their own...I guess.
@@Ubugome I can understand and respect your viewpoint, yeah. The CT Scan comment is maybe a bit much, but otherwise yeah, I can understand not wanting a game you grew up loving straying too much in its rereleases. Me personally, I'm just a tad disappointed Grant Kirkhope isn't returning for the 2024 version of Mario Vs. Donkey Kong, as well as some of the more outrageous animations like Mario being burned alive. If I had to use this port as an example though, the new intro with the company logos is more forgettable than the original, however nice it may look. Hard to replace the original logo fanfare followed by opening up with Cranky Kong on those familiar girders. The music's also taken a somewhat heavy hit, which sucks since the OST is phenominal on SNES.
