Oh, 100%. I played the hell out of this back in the day. Must have beaten it a dozen times. Used to play it both on Game Boy and the device that let you play Game Boy games on the SNES
@@scotts1912 Same 😄 You played it on the SuperGameboy. I did too 😄 The SuperGameboy was the best for playing any GameBoy games on the SNES. It gave the games some color, made every game multiplayer with the painting option.. I wish the gaming industry popularized the SuperGameboy. Dude, Zelda for GB on the SuperGameboy ♥
Back in ‘94 I remember renting this game and a Super Game Boy from a local Video Scene store. I beat the game in a weekend with the help of a few boxes of Luigi’s Watermelon water ice!!! #MEMORIES
I previously owned a Super Game Boy which is compatible with Game Boy Color games (black cartridges) I did manage to play The New Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley (GBC black cartridge) on a Super Game Boy (for Super Nintendo) up until I sold it Publisher: Acclaim Entertainment Developer: Crawfish Interactive TM and (C)1999 Dualstar Entertainment Group, Inc. Donkey Kong: Let’s Go Three Thousand Dollars & More! Mario: No DK! It’s Not Three Thousand Dollars & More Maybe Next Year! DK: (Angry Roars, Attacks) Mario: Ow! Ow! Ow! (Tears Skirt) Pauline: Aah! Mario! Mario: Hey You! Come Back Here!
I could never beat that final level on my Gameboy always wondered how I kept on losing and what I was missing. This game taught me the value of perseverance. Glad to finally know the ending now I need to do it myself, though not sure if I can pull it off in 2 hours.
Wait, is this game the origin of Mario's high back jump? Also, I love how much character Nintendo was able to put into their games even with the limited capabilities of the Gameboy. Donkey Kong has so much personality in his animations
Yes. The backflip and the triple jump originated in this game. I remember when I first got Mario 64 and thought, "They included some of the moves from Donkey Kong!"
@@wigglerwednesday Yes it is. Look at 1:05. It involves a handstand to do it, but while moving you jump into a handstand, jump right-side up, then jump a third time to get a much larger jump. They specifically called it a triple jump in this game.
@@wigglerwednesday Yeah. It takes very precise timing on the jumps. You have to jump as soon as you land. Too early or too late and it won't count. You know you're successful if Mario has his hands up in the air when you're finished. I played through and finished this game at least 5 times. It's in my top 5 list of favorite GB games. I think the triple jump in Mario 64 is much easier to pull off in that it a) doesn't require the handstand and b) the timing of the jumps feel a bit more forgiving.
I know that it's only a tiny part of the overall game, but I really like how rather than starting off with brand new content, the game makes you play through the original Donkey Kong first.
Back then. A Gameboy game could have been a straight adaptation of an arcade title and no one would be bothered by it. Instead people familiar with the original Donkey Kong get a pleasant surprise.
This is probably the best gameboy game ever. It's one of the most creative puzzle games, it's an expansion to the well known and loved arcade game, and with lots of levels and bosses to keep you on your toes, it's no wonder why so many people love it.
I’ll have to slightly disagree, I think Donkey Kong works as a Gameboy game, just as well as a regular console game. Like Tetris, both games just worked well either way. It does suck that this version of Donkey Kong didn’t make it on a console(yet, who knows what Nintendo will do) but that’s what gives the Gameboy some value.
@@joshjohnson3442 I think the series could work well in modern hardware if inspired by the style of Captain Toad Treasure Tracker. Small 3D urban stages with this classic DK gameplay.
My favorite game boy game!! I love how the 1st 3 levels start from the original Donkey Kong from the 80's and then it branches off into a more complex game with each stage and level.
@@AidanGamesYTow do I get in the mario franchise any advice? Could I watch game plays or play the actual thing? It would be kinda hard to play cause I don't have a game boy and the other game systems since they're harder to find nowadays please help lol
Thank you for FINALLY showing me how to get into that little room at 49:50 . Most playthroughs skip this secret, and I had no idea they were thorough enough to make mini-mario actually cause the frogs to jump higher like that. That's a lifelong mystery solved lol
26:32 I still remember as a kid that this level is where I get stucked. Never get to see the next level until now 😅. Oh my! Nostalgia hits me so hard right now. Wish I could go back in time where I dont have to worry about anything. No bills, stress etc.
Bought this on my 3ds a couple of years back and fell in love with it. I can definitely see the influence this game had on the original Mario vs Donkey Kong.
That photo with the credits always puzzled me. DK, Mario, Pauline and Diddy(?) are all smiling happily. DK looks a bit sad, sure, but he's still grinning. DK probably looks sad because he lost......the game? Because that's what it appears to have been (even within the game's story), right? You would NEVER see Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser and the Koopalings posing for a photo like that!
Asked for Donkey Kong Land for xmas, got given Donkey Kong original. Hid my devastated face well, but clearly in the end this was the superior game overall. Although this video makes it a LOT easier to see than the Gameboy lcd screen which made my eyes bleed on anything detailed (see Killer Instinct, Donkey Kong Land)
I'll never forget when I was 12 years old and I got this game for my birthday and my family went on a vacation to the Sequoia is in the snow and I played this game the whole drive up there
Boa tarde. Hoje eu zerei novamente esse lindo classico jogo do mário. Levarei a chave numa certa fase que so uso a escada uma vez. Em menos de 20 segundos eu levo a chave pro alto😂😂😂. Valeu amigos. Granxe abraço. Brasil 👍👍🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Gonna have to call it at the Desert area. i was given this as a 11/12 year old and didn't beat it. I remember replaying it again on my SP and being worse, somehow. Am trying to think where that SP is atm (either my mums or at one of many ex-girlfriends). When i find it, I want to try and beat this. Well played m8.
Fun fact in this game this is all the things they wanted to add in the original donkey Kong arcade game but couldn’t due to storage issues and…it’s a arcade game how are you gonna fit 94 levels in an arcade game….
Fun fact: This Donkey Kong and the one from the arcade games before it is actually Cranky Kong a few years before he became an old ape (Gorillas die from old age between 35-40). After this game, Donkey Kong Sr., or Cranky Kong gave up his rivalry with Mario and retired to the island on Donkey Kong Country where he raised his son Donkey Kong Jr. and his grandson DK III, who is the Donkey Kong in the Donkey Kong Country games and other DK games after Donkey Kong 64.
@@angelicamacias7513 "Younger self?" Is Bowser Jr Bowser's "younger self", or Baby Bowser? "Jr." does not mean your "younger self", it means your son or daughter.
It's actually pretty cool how Nintendo took elements from this game for Mario vs. Donkey Kong for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance, which was released a decade after this game was released. 😊😁❤️💙
This game was hard back in the day. Watching these games I used to play all the time as a kid makes me realize I never got close to beating anything except super mario.
This umbrella was in super smash bros because in my pass l dont knew It whats the mean the word umbrella and now when l was watching the video musical umbrella of Rihanna next l know now about the umbrella in english mean in spanish paraguas o sombrilla because lm mexican my friends
Me and my brother played this a lot on our GBA, and I have tons of memories of all the levels until after forest. I guess that's where we always lost lol
