I used to live in the Apt. Bldg. next door to hers in Sherman Oaks back in 1987-88 and she always smiled and said “Hello” to everyone. A real Class Act!❤
I really enjoyed this interview - makes me like Donna even more now. IMHO her performance in Saturday Night Fever is one of the most memorable, compelling performances by an actress on film ever. I never saw her wheels turning (something I've become sensitive too, even in performances by some of the greatest actors) -- she was so believable. And she left you feeling for her, hoping that she went on to a better and happier life.
Also -- I went looking for this after seeing Donna in the Capitol One commercial with John Travolta. Her smile at him and his wink at her was my favorite moment.
What a great backstage treat. Pescow. Travolta. Stallone. Pacino. De Niro. Penny Marshall. Henry Winkler et al. I’m not sure these great actors realize what they meant to ethnic kids growing up in the ‘70s in the Midwest. I grew up in Chicagoland in a mostly Polish-Italian-Irish neighborhood, and having movies like “Fever,” “Grease” and TV shows like “Kotter,” Pescow’s “Angie” and the other Garry Marshall shows made us feel like we were being represented, and looking back as a 53-year-old film history buff, the blond-hair-blue-eyed ideal pre-1970s was all too prevalent. Dustin Hoffman in the “Graduate” likely was what broke through and weakened the Barbie-and-Ken paradigm, paving the way for more relatable-looking movie and TV icons in the ‘70s.
Great interview! (BTW, the movie she mentions that Steve McQueen was making while she was filming ANGIE was likely THE HUNTER (1980). BULLITT was made in 1968.
Karen Lynn Gorney was dating the 2nd Director and that’s why she got the part that Fran Dresher originaly had…. I think they would have made such a better movie if that line up would have stayed. Fran is so much more glamorous than Karen Lynn Horny 😂
