One of the sweetest ladies you could ever meet. She was friends with another friend from La Jolla California and we met her after her concert and she was such an incredible girl and a sad day when she passed

Was great song writer too… turned into a terrible homophone though. 👀 hateful fundamentalist Christian conversion ….. this song is written about drag prostitution … she wrote it about the women outside her window. She was an amazing song writer.

That was a guitar. The song is about the plight of ladies of the night. Donna was inspired to write the song after a secretary at her record company was harassed by the police; mistaken for one of the prostitutes that walked the strip (Sunset Strip) across the street from the offices of Casablanca Records. When Donna presented a demo of the song to Neil Bogart, then president of her record company, he told her the song was not suited for and suggested label-mate Cher record the song. Donna wasn't about to give her song to Cher so the tape sat in a box for two years before a recording engineer discovered it and persuaded Donna to work on the song some more with her producers. The demo is online if you want to hear. Oh, her name is Summer like the season. S-U-M-M-E-R. It is the Americanization of her Austrian first husband's last name, Sommer. Donna and her 2nd husband's (Bruce Sudano) youngest daughter Amanda is half of the duo Johnnyswim. Their music is definitely worth checking out it you've not already done so.

Thanks for checking out Donna again Jayy, you gotta do more ! Donna is in the middle of her hot streak in 1979, she became the first solo artist to scored 3 #1 singles and 5 top 10 and/or 5 top 5 singles in a calendar year (79). The streak saw her to 9 consecutive top 5 singles, from Last Dance (July 78) to The Wanderer (Oct 80). Last Dance (3), Mac Arthur Park (1), Heaven Knows (4), Hot Stuff (1), Bad Girls (1), Dim All The Lights (2), No More Tears (1), On The Radio (5), The Wanderer (3). Unfortunately, her relationship with Casablanca Records soured, when Neil Bogart (President) promised Donna that her newly recorded single No More Tears, a duet with Barbra Streisand would not be released for another month before it was. This would have allowed Donna's current single Dim All The Lights to peaked on the chart, before releasing another single (which would take air play and attention from the current single). Thus allowing Donna to have a #1 single, as a songwriter. She wrote Dim All The Lights by herself. It would have also made her the first female to have 3 #1 singles from the same album.

They released "Hot Stuff" first and then "Bad Girls". The songs kind of flowed into each other on her album and in the dance clubs (and often on the radio) - they let both songs play one after the other. Genius on Donna's part to put these songs as first and second on her album.! "Hot Stuff" was #1 for 4 weeks and "Bad Girls" was #1 for 5 weeks. "Hot Stuff was Grammy nominated for Best Female Rock recording and "Bad Girls" was nominated for Best Pop Female recording.

She was talking about sunset strip in LA back when this came out Vegas was prolly 10 blocks wide and long. Donna was kicking game , back then it was going down! That instrument was a electric guitar I believe. She was the Whitney of the 70s and early 80s hit after hit, she also created the remix and house and club music, she was pre Whitney! Then Whitney came and the rest was history!

Jayy, You just took me to the Disco. When this song came on Dance floor packed, Damn we had fun...We would dance hours and hours at the Disco...just like you see in videos it was like that. The song they played at closing was always Donna Summers Last Dance...Memories 70s what a decade in musis...Disco didn't last too long, Zeppelin and 80s had arrived. The classiest and most empathetic song ever written about the lives of female Sex Workers. When I became old enough to understand what this song was about, it opened my eyes. The only other song that had the same effect about this subject was Private Dancer by Tina Turner.
