I got to meet Donna Summer. It was in the early 90s. I was in the city seeing a show. During intermission I started hearing whispers about Donna Summer being in the audience. I spotted her but she was all the way up in the front of the house. I just gawked. Then, after the show, I ran out to have a cigarette and wait for my friend who was watching curtain calls (I know, that sounds rude, but - - smoker - - well) anyway, I got outside and who was standing there waiting for her limo? Yep. You guessed it. And she was by herself and she looked really approachable and I went up and said hello and gushed over her and we talked for a couple of minutes. Then her limo came and she gave me a hug and it was so cool. She was super sweet. I used to love to work out to Donna Summer songs. Great lady, great vocals! And beautiful, too!

At 41 years old I’m still crying off hearing these 2-goddess voices till this day!

Babs had a top 10 dance hit just before this, the theme to her 1979 movie "The Main Event". The writers of that song worked with Donna and brought them together. Barbra's son, Jason, then 13, was a big Donna fan. He told her he'd kill her if she didn't do it. 😅 This was a huge hit. I like the extended 12" version with the guitar solo that gives it that Giorgio Moroder sound ala Donna's "Hot Stuff".

What a terrific reaction, Liz. So affected and organic, but listening to these two iconic and legendary artists for the first time together, will do that to you. I hope this will be the start of more reactions to Barbra; her entire catalogue is unique in that she's sung just about every genre out there... Broadway, Soft Rock, Pop, Folk, R&B, Jazz, Opera, Classical, and as you've heard here, Disco. There's even a little Reggae and Country she's dabbled in. She's got three albums alone of duets with some of the greatest ever, past and present. Another commenter here mentioned Neil Diamond; well Barbra and Neil have one of the most iconic duets ever made, "You Don't Bring Me Flowers, and I highly recommed a reaction to their live performance of the song they did to an unsuspecting audience at a Grammy Awards show. Barbara did her share of duets but THIS by far is the greatest one and in my opinion the greatest female duet of all time.

Great reaction, Lizzie! A couple of recommendations from these ladies: Check out Barbra's songs "Stoney End" and "Time and Love" from her 1971 album called Stoney End. Both songs were written by the wonderful Laura Nyro, whose songs also became major hits for bands including Three Dog Night, Blood Sweat & Tears and the Fifth Dimension. And listen to Donna's "There Will Always Be A You," a haunting and mysterious song that was the flip side to "On the Radio." This was written entirely by Donna without co-writers. Beautiful tune that falls outside her usual disco style.

Watched a few guys react earlier and they just didn’t get that 11 out of 10 vibe, they definitely got 10 out of 10 but you felt that extra “star burst” ‘glass ceiling” shattering uniqueness of this unexpected blend of genius voices ,separate ,distinct, yet blended .If they made ice cream ,Ben and Jerry would be dry as dust!!! I was a teenager in the 70’s and when this song came on the radio it was like a miracle to me ( B.S never moved me and as an LGBTQ+ person ,it seems I’m a rare example of NOT feeling La Streisand’s allure, there’s something too crystal clear and untouchable about her pristine Diva tones, too together !!! A singing lawyer? There’s a logic and rationale that’s ever present But send in a Donna Summer with that charismatic mysterious delicious organic easy tone ( you can’t imagine her speaking voice!! Where as Streisands is as you might expect. ) I’ve always loved Donna Summer’s descending notes ,they’re so sensual,sinuous natural and easy on the ear ,like a balm,cocoa butter in tone,a warm caressing. And the fact that they both worked together so perfectly is a credit to both women. I think it’s one of the genius collaborations in “ Pop” music And your speechless reaction summed it up. You probably know by now,that there is a glorious extended version around and it’s just ridiculously good and actually is what this track deserves. Back in the 80’ s there was a huge trend for releasing 12 inch vinyl versions of 7inch singles , these extended versions more often than not had extended remixed instrumental sections with blended in chorus repeats etc. If you loved a tune ,12 inches were a blissful opportunity to get lost in the groove and dance your heart out ( for me that was the bright orange “ High Fidelity” record player blasting out on a hot summers day from my our kitchen back door across the fields and hilly farmland of County Cork ,Ireland ,while my parents went for their Sunday afternoon spin Sweet Freedom!!!🫶🏻💕

When you said you were jealous of those of us who didn't have to search for these songs but got to hear them without effort on the radio all the time, I smiled. I think a lot of young reactors think people making suggestions are going to a lot of work searching for these songs to suggest to y'all, but the songs are already in our heads because they were played all the time and were huge super-popular hits in their time. Like you said, there was one good song ("bop") after another played on the radio back in 1979 when this was popular. In fact, though this song was huge, it didn't stand out at the time the way it does today because a lot of musicians were doing these formulaic disco songs at this 1979 height of the disco era and this song, though good, seemed like just another example of yet another big star cashing in on the disco sound of 1979. Again, it was good, well liked, a big hit, but it fit right in with a very popular sound of the time.
