It's November of 1978. I'm 18 years old, my first time in a disco, I'm bored and feeling self-conscious. My friends from work said to meet on the dance floor when they played "MacArthur Park." My sister had the 4 minute 45 for her drill team routine but I didn't see what was so special about it. Then the music stopped and the lights went out. The synthesizer began. I walked to the edge of the floor and the crowd literally parted and I saw all my friends in a circle in the middle. As the lights started swirling and I felt the bass beat pounding in my chest I began to dance for the first time in public and my only wish was that it would go on and on. And it did. For 18 minutes Donna Summer and Giorgio Moroder transported me to another dimension that I can still return to every time I listen to that amazing suite of music.
That’s a great memory! Wow I can see it as you describe. Unfortunately was not old enough to get into club at that time, only 14. But I danced to this in my bedroom to an extent that aligns with lights, beats and memories you describe. Awesome!
I know adverts pay for these free platforms, but and its a big but. They should not interrupt a song just to play their ad. Play it before the song begins, and afterwards. That's fine but in the middle, ruins the song for the listener's.
But it ads $$ to the person uploaded the video. The video that Donna's production team, make-up artists, hair stylists, security, stage hands, Band members, background singers, sound and lighting engineers were already paid a fee, for the video's release for sale worked on. Then here comes this person and not only puts an ad on before the music, is SO MONEY HUNGRY, THAT HE CAN'T HELP HIMSELF FROM ADDING ANOTHER IN THE STINKEN MIDDLE. LOSS OF A SUB, A THUMBS DOWN AND A DISLIKE FOR ALL OF YOUR VIDEOS. MR. OR MRS. GREEDY.
Enormous vibrancy in her voice...takes you on the dizzying whirl of those days...irreplaceable, beautiful , understated: a rarity in Tinseltown, poised and elegantly mannered.
Colsome miah, well penned description for a beautiful soul as Donna Summer whose personality says it all. Never met her but just from seeing her on stage and listening to her voice the warmth and positivity of the lady embraces mankind.
She’s used the Spirit of the living God so well. Just imagine hearing her for eternity in Heaven-What a motivator for me. Oh, btw, I saw Ms. Summers live several times. The time this was huge in the underground disconclubs I saw her front row at the Universal Amphitheater. I sat next to Johnny Carson and his wife. Memories! God is great, right?
McArthur Park Eternal Explanation of Music and Inspiration: Several versions all have one thing in common.. they are very long instrumental and diverse in lyrics.. To understand this music the experience returns you to Genesis the first creation of sentient being Adam and Lilith. No Eve was not Adam first wife.. Eve came second...a part of Adam God created man in his image ( think imagination) God already created Angels spiritual beings and the Forth Dimension Universe ( let there be light) Time and Space Existence as we currently know it. Macarthur Park is the symbol of the Garden of Eden and what happened there. Lilith left Adam for his refusal to accept her equality and right to choose The Song tells of Adams Remorse and Heartbreak The first human emotion Second only to Gratitude. The cake left out in the Rain..ignore nature as God is the Baker .. time ..it took so long to Bake It.. That recipe lost to transcend the Next Dimension Man's lost Love Lilith Then came Eve who bore their first Children Cain and Able .
0:59 I didn't know all this time that the love they shared was like a pair of freshly pressed pants. LOL LOL LOL oh no hahahahaha whoo. Almost spit my water out! Hahaha
richard douglas ,There were no disc for years when this was put on ' vinyl ' but I do ,Thank God all D.S. music was later put on CD's. Not tryin to be a smart ass or insult you but my " Donna Summer Live and More " , vinyl album was about worn out from years playing this very side ,over and over again.Peace !
The original version was written by Jimmy Web, and sung by Richard Harris. They say that the original is always the best, but Donna Summer proves that is not neccessarily true. Kudos to her may she RIP.
Sorry But This Is Not Pop in away shape ,form or fashion this is Pure 100% Disco, my friend many people loved it ,which I was one of them. But many teenagers hated it.Out of the 5 best friend I hung with while in the 9 th and 10 th grade 4 of the pack Hated Disco and didn't care to tell you. They loved ' Kiss ' and other rock groups. I was the only disco freak among them. Not being an ass but Disco set off a firestorm of hate from pure Rock In Roll freaks. Living in the South Disco was still King / Queen but nkt in my neighborhood.
This brings back so many memories... danced to it so many times back in the days of disco. Now I can only cry when I listen - it reminds me of my dancing partner who passed on many years ago. After all the loves of my life, he's still the one. Donna, heaven knows I love your voice and your music... may you rest in peace.
naplesgirl55 Donna Summer was a gift to us all from God put on this Earth to entertain. That beauty and that Talent! The Disco era and even the 1980s would not have been the same without Donna Summer. And here's a little unknown fact. In the very beginning of her career, Donna Summer and her friend were coming out of a recording studio or what have you, and because of the way they were dressed and they were beautiful. Well, two police officers came up to her and her friend and started harassing them accusing them of being hookers. Donna Summer adamantly stated that she was not a prostitute that she was a singer! To make a long story short. she then came up with one of her biggest hits because of that little incident, "Bad Girls" . About prostitutes. she took what happened to her and turned into one of the biggest songs ever! And in the song Donna Summer is not demeaning women who are prostitutes. She is singing about how hard their lives are. "Talking about sad girls". That woman had a heart of gold. And she was profoundly affected by 9/11. Everyone thinks that expedited her death 9/11. Because she loved people that much.. An actual angel on Earth. I'm crying...
Thank you so much , dear lady. That will always be very special to me. Because of your comment about that song & what it means to you . And because of Donna Summer, herself. I am truly touched. And I I am so glad that I listen to that song and replied to your comment. This is very special. And Donna Summers Legacy will live on forever. Because of the person that she was. She was a wonderful person. I usually don't celebrity worship. But for Donna Summer, always...🌷
I can confirm the story about the origin of the song "Bad Girls." She's told the story in numerous interviews, and again, in her memoir (the book that the play on Broadway is loosely based on). She had lots of anecdotes to tell about how she came up with ideas for her songs/poems/lyrics. "Love to Love You" is a famous one. As part of her final album, "Crayons," the liner notes included "origin stories" for all the songs on the album. Thanks so much for contributing to this page in such a loving manner. As for Donna's untimely death, she was diagnosed with cancer 10 months before she died. She herself attributed her cancer diagnosis to being in New York at the time the towers fell. She had no choice but to breathe the toxic fumes that spread throughout Manhattan. She was already settled in a nice home in Nashville, but she just happened to have business in New York during the week of the tragedy. Vogue for the early disco era, Donna smoked cigarettes, but, at most, she was a part-time smoker. She quit smoking 40 years before her cancer diagnosis. Lungs fully heal from the ravages of smoking in about a year's time. Donna's lung cancer didn't affect her vocal cords. She was singing all the way up to her diagnosis. She had herself checked out by a doctor because she began to feel tired all the time and out-of-breath. She first suspected heart disease. An X-ray of her lungs showed a large, dark spot. A PET Scan later affirmed that cancerous cells had traveled to her pelvic region. The cancer cells replicated faster than the therapies she chose could kill them. Donna was spotted around town, shopping, a mere two weeks before she passed away, which tells the world something about her determination to live life and not succumb to depression before the disease forced her to take to bed. People she met in public all report that Donna was jovial, chatty, but never shared that she was fatally ill.
Emmett Glenn Oh... I didn't know she had cancer. when I heard the news that she passed away I started crying of course. and anytime it was but I didn't pay any attention because I couldn't bear to see any coverage of her death in anything and I didn't know that she had cancer. and New York City . I'm sure the air is not very clean. And what a classy lady! 2 keep up a smiling face and go out with a smile in her heart well on her face at least that takes a lot of courage. and I'm sure she did get a lot of inspiration from her life for her music because that's what singers and songwriters do. That's their gift from God. And she was our gift from God! There is no doubt about that! Oh my goodness I'm tearing up. And she remains so humble and kind and down-to-earth. She was never the diva. And oh my goodness! How absolutely beautiful was she? I mean come on? And she was married for a very long time to her husband I think so. You never heard anything bad about Donna Summer. 🎶And WE will never have that recipe again, Donna Summer!🎶🎶💔
This song is still being played at clubs today!! If you're interested, there is an awesome video. It takes you right through the crowd on the dancefloor. Look up 'Arena vs Twilo Junior Vasquez.'. The video that Darren Kawa put up. Skip to 22:39. (Mac Park followed by an amesome remix of D. S- Melody of Love.
Donna Sumner, Rip. The queen of the music & fantastic songs she sing. My childhood and memories get refresh while I listen her voice and really no one can stand with her in singing by any type of song till end of music era.
THE QUEEN FOREVER DONNA SUMMER !!!!!
I cannot imagine anyone else singing this song. Donna has the correct vocals, pitch etc for this. Listen to that "Ah, hah" omg, This is real excellence. She is/was a great artiste, one who comes once in a blue moon and you know they are great when their songs are difficult for anyone else to sing. Donna and Whitney falls in that category.
Great song. Very imaginative. I enjoyed this song 35 years ago. The lyrics gave new insight to the old familiar rhythm. Thanks for the lyrics Emmett. You made my day....
Queen of the pop music of the 70's era. Whatever her mixed feelings concerning the disco and the producers that provided her this unique sound, Inferno orchestration Brilliant Cover
jane mitchell , I bought this album as soon as I could and for many years proceeded to wear it out playing it over and over again. I was hypnotized and mesmerized by the voice ,the back singers and that magnificent disco beat.Great memories but also so very sad we lost our Queen of Disco.

Simplesmente maravilhosa .

In Ènglish, "This famouse song is a very upbeat number. It made me so happy when I heard such a favorite song being played in Japan while I was a student.I feel really nostalgic.Great music never fade no matter how many years pass."
Breeze refreshing comment's translate to english . A very nice Masterpiece a long time when I was a student. It 's flowing in Japan and I miss again. Tomo Arikawa's comment translate to English . Donna Summer's singing ability is really great. I 'm still reminded of it now and even if I don't show the awesomeness of singing ability .It's the awesomeness of Donna Summer I think
