She did an Amazing job on this !! A million people have covered this song , But no one did it better than Ray Charles ! His version can bring a grown man to tears ! And I can testify to that ! 😁

That one is slightly more up-tempo (but just slightly), with a beautiful sax solo midway, and when Karen reaches deeep into her basement in the final stanza's "I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine," the way that contralto of hers sings the word "mine" produces chills, arguably the lowest note she has ever sung and captured on vinyl (and she's sung a LOT of those notes). i love donna summer. love love love. she is the reason i started digging through records at thrifts. but this is a cover of a carpenters song (or maybe the carpenters covered it from someone else). that's a tough sell. i think you summed it up perfectly. she brought the vocals, her voice is one of a kind, but that carpenters version though. R.I.P. donna, but that carpenters version.

R&B classic!!! This has been covered by numerous artists , talent contestants and karaoke participants. Donna did a good job but Donny Hathaway’s cover has been an R&B staple.

Donny hathaway.

Her vocal was well done, but others have done it better. Two of my favorite versions of the song are by Donnie Hathaway and Natalie Cole. Apparently this was from a 1977 TV special and I suppose she did this to show her vocal range and versatility as an artist and that she was more than an orgasmicly moaning Disco music sex queen. So based on that criteria, the performance was a success.

I much prefer Donny Hathaway`s version( i dont know if he sang it originally?) but all i do know is that Donna summer cant match Donny Hathaway`s powerful vocals or the soul and emotion he had in his voice!!
