Okay this is a great demonstration of a simple yet practical metal set up. Thank you for not making yet another bad blues pedal review. RU-vid is so saturated with those that it's difficult to find simple metal guitar gear demos without first sorting through a sea of horrid daddy got the blues jams... lol don't get me wrong. I appreciate the talent involved in quality blues. But it's not what I'm looking for 99.9% of the time. So, once more thank you for a very well done, to the point demo, incredible riffs, and no frills or gimmicky sponsorship plugs lol. If this was a sponsor driven demo it's one that sells itself so nicely done. Good gear sells itself. It doesn't require sales tactics. Well done and one last big thank you for an all around good video. Bravo sir! 👏
Thank you heaps! I haven't done any sponsored videos, the closest I came to was a competition I was asked to join that had sponsored prizes. All my equipment is bought myself. Which is good because I'm not comfortable with trying to sell anything haha. I love making videos with sounds I'm trying to get, for tones I love that I feel is really lacking for resources and raw discussions. I agree with the blues over saturation, take nothing away from how good they are at what they do... But it doesn't tickle my heavy screaming itch for brutal tones on a budget.
I've been buying minis lately and downsizing gear. Love the mini pedals! Getting ready to order this Noise Killer but stopped to check demos. After watching this demo, I'm convinced I'll be happy with it. Great demo!
I bought this pedal used at a Guitar Center on a whim for $30 because I had some left on a gift card. I play a Fender strat through a Behringer V-Tone GDI 21 and I use a lot of gain. This has cleaned up a LOT of the buzz and hiss on the single coil settings. It's not the greatest for a clean gate to cut off notes, but as a noise reducer and buzz/hum eliminator, it's tremendous. Excited to try it for recording in the coming weeks.
I brought this pedal on a whim as well when they had a promotional run on Facebook. I find myself using it a lot for recording demo's and even while recording jams in these videos as it saves me so much time editing and cleaning up.
IMo Compression is ok to use while recording but for noise redux you def want to handle that via software in post. You don’t want to cut off the best part of your best sustainy solo.
Good video. I'm very fond of my Noise Killer. I love it when a cheap pedal isn't just "good for the price" but surpasses expectations : ) I was really surprised that it cuts off hum and hiss, but doesn't chop off sustain too early.
I have the Rowin gate, which I think is the exact same pedal just differently branded. Its good but occasionally stumbles I find. Pretty transparent still. Ive heard its (the donner and rowin) is based on the isp decimator circuit.
The decimator is held in high regards. My bandmate has one and loves it, I haven't used one first hand yet. Rowin gate I've heard good things about as well. Is that the little white version you use?
@@metalprognosis yeah that's the one. It has the same graphics and controls as this one and behaves the same from what I can tell. I reckon its pretty good in front of the amp, in the effects loop not so much. Not sure why.
Thank you! I think I'm really hyper aware of my stuttering, so I believe everyone can hear it and is annoyed by it. I think I've only had a couple of negative comments about it when I first started this channel. Appreciate the kind words. I have used this pedal a lot since discovering it, it makes tracking guitars and bass much easier and quicker to edit, as near to no editing is needed. Since I'm creating two videos a week and currently composing demos for my band, it is very welcoming!
I play a lot of high gain and my Marshall DSL-1 gets really noisy when the furnace and washer/dryer run as they are on the other side of the wall. This cheap pedal probably cleaned up like 99% of the noise. I can’t believe it!
This pedal has made a few more appearances on the channel. It's currently running through my effects loop of my amp cutting all the hiss noise! No matter how loud I crank my amp, there is zero hiss coming out of the speakers!
I have that same noise gate. I noticed after you put the switch on hard(fast response) you didn't re-adjust the threshold. I was wondering if you thought your tone was altered. I am usually playing blues rock type music and I find it seems to tone suck some playing non-distorted music. I do enjoy some metal and your playing was kicking.
I've used this pedal in a few different videos now and don't notice a tone suck at all... There may be a little, the good it does really out weighs any potential for tone changing. Especially for it's price. I think last time I used it I notice hiss during playing, so it's main strength is killing all noise when you aren't playing, not cleaning up the overall sound. This is just with high gain distortion tones, not sure how it works with cleaner tones. Thank you for checking out the channel. \m/
Thank you for the video! Can you tell me about your power source to the noise gate? The website says the petal draws 500ma. What do you use to power it? Thanks
It is simpler, and you can't do the four cable method with it. The sentry you can home in on specific frequencies and really customise it... the noise killer is very much a yes or no to your sound. If you don't want to muck around with settings and want to utilise a pedal simplicity... both pedals are as good as each other! They are both great at cutting unwanted noise, they both can djent assist and both have a boost output.
Not sure, I haven't tried the nr300. I have heard the nr300 doesn't gate as quickly as the noise killer. I can only go off what I've heard as I haven't tried it myself.
@@metalprognosis they both work great! I could have guessed but I was wondering beforehand if the noise gate would stop my feedback but it doesn’t completely but that’s also because of a guitar issue, other than that it’s just having that 10 band to control everything and the gate to shut everything up lol
@@kingtaco4064 That is awesome to hear! It does wonders for my ENGL amp noise! I have it in my effects loop and it takes away %100 of the hiss no matter how hard I push the gain!
I can't recall sorry... I'll check it out and see what markings are on it when I get home. I know the company got brought out and have been rebranded...
Thank you for checking out the video. It's a challenging thing thinking of the best way to put this noise gate pedal under stress and try express that for anyone watching. I'm sure there could be a better way of doing it.
@@metalprognosis when ur editing just cut the stuff people dont need to see. you have to be able to have that mindset to keep any retention from strangers on the internet.
@@pastainthesink1601 ah yes let’s take advice from the guy with no subscribers whose probably never picked up a guitar in his life on how to put together a quality pedal demo. Go get a life dude instead of shitting on people who have one lol.
@@metalprognosis For what its worth, your video helped me in my purchasing of this pedal, which I now use. I enjoyed the video format and found it informative.
@@KloWn694 thanks heaps Thomas. I enjoy my one take raw approach of my videos, leaving mistakes, rough playing and capturing my discoveries to share. I also respect its not for everyone. This is a great pedal, I still have it on my main setup I used for recording.
