My review of the Donner DP-1 Power Supply. This affordable power supply will power your pedal board with ease. It has 8 9 volt DC isolated power supplies and 1 12 volt and 118 volt slot and includes all power cords required.
It costs around $40 CAD and this price point and its quality make it a very attractive alternative to the name brand options that cost 2-3 times as much.

Nice review. I actually have 2 of the Donner DP-2 power supplies. The DP-2 only costs about $10 more. The main upgrade from the DP-1 is an extra high current output. The DP-1 has 1 500ma output, and the DP-2 has 2 of them. My board has 11 or 12 pedals on it, so 8 outputs wouldn't cover it all. Plus, I have 3 or 4 pedals that require more than 100ma, so the extra high current outputs were needed. Even with 2 power supplies running side by side, and a dozen pedals, I've had no issues with the DP-2. No mystery hums or hisses, and no issues with my pedals not working. They've been great! If I had to go out and buy 2 Voodoo Labs power supplies for my board, I'd be living on Ramen Noodles for a couple months to pay for them!

Thank you! Yes, I’ve never booed a band because their power supplies were off brand. A lot of elitism with gear these days. Guys in $250,000 studios giving advice to “amateurs”. I’ll take my 40$ supply and my $30 Klone all day.

@@colinlamb AMEN!! Nothing wrong with budget pedals. I heard someone say once,"If it sounds good, it is good!" The only "Name Brand" pedal on my entire board is an old DOD Ice Box chorus that I bought way back in the late 90's. Everything else is a budget version of something more expensive.

Super helpful... thanks for sharing. You think the switch from a daisy chain to one of these is worth it to remove the hiss/fuzz that is brought out in amps?
@colinlamb
@colinlamb 4 года назад
No problem. There can be many things that cause that. However, I have a boost, a Klon clone, a high gain distortion and a fuzz pedal on my board and there is no hiss. Sometimes pedal order plays into that as well but I am using a daisy chain on my mini board and I noticed some signal noises there. When I used the boss tuner pedal instead it helped. For $40 this thing is well worth it.

Hello man! I currently have my pedals (boss sd 1, boss ds1, big muff, cry baby all connected on a daisy chain and I have no issues of annoying noises.. buuuut, recently got a ehx nano clone and everything went to hell, even in bypass mode that particular pedal ruins everything else, I already tried the patch cables but I’m using fender patch cables, so the culprit may be the power supply... what about the noises with this power supply???
@colinlamb
@colinlamb 4 года назад
Daisy chains are known culprits. I will say that pedal order can be important too though. The muff will cause weird noise issues in a daisy chain. I have been using this power supply for almost a year and have had zero issues. I currently have: crybaby, TC Boost, DS1, Big Muff, mini Klon clone, clone theory, TC reverb, TC Flashback in that order with no noise issues powered by the donner unit. Im using the small MXR cables and 1 longer yorkville. Make sure your amp isn;t the culprit. Thank you for watching and let me know how it goes.

So I recently bought donner supply and I Also got a Ds-1 (im new to guitar) although the power supply seems to make alot of noises like humming and buzzing when its routed to just the ds-1 pedal. Is this a user error or is this more of a product error? And is there anyway to fix this, help.
@colinlamb

Have you tried just powering the DS1 with a battery to see if its the pedal or your cables? There are a lot of things that can cause noise.

I have never used a multi fx unit myself. But I’m my experience hissing or crackling is usually a cable or grounding issue. I would make sure all your connections are good. Are you using the donner power supply?

Thanks for the helpful review. Why did you get the Donner DP-1 power supply instead of the DP-2, DP-3 or DP-4? Was it just the price? What are the advantages of the higher models? Will the DP-1 work just as well or is it lacking in any area compared to the others? Why are the higher models much more expensive (particularly DP-3 and DP-4)? Thanks.
@colinlamb
@colinlamb 4 года назад
Hey, thank you for your comment. My understanding is that the DP 2 in Donners words is an "Updated version of DP-1, high current, better exert your effect pedal." The DP 3 looks like it has a much sturdier construction and they say it has "high quality loops" of wiring- LOL. My main concern was being able to attach it under my pedal board and not on the top. I used 2 sided tape to stick it up under the board and it worked great. I did not want to pay $200 plus for a name brand unit (that had fewer outputs in many cases) and I liked the reviews for this so I gave it a whirl. To date I have used it at 40+ jams, countless times at home and at several gigs. I have had no issues or problems and my board is quiet as a whisper. I highly recommend this unit. As long as the DP 2 and 3 don't have larger bodies and would fit under my board I would imagine they are great too. I would check out some of the reviews on amazon for first hand accounts. If you have found this helpful please check out my channel and subscribe if you would like. Take care, T WIZ from Canada!

So even though the adapter itself doesn't have a magnet ring, ain't noisy? Do you use a noise gate?

@@Alfredo78666 Im not really making a lot of Review videos anymore. I just played the rig for about 3 hours tonight and can report no unwanted noise. I might make a short follow up video about using this 1 year in. Still very happy with the unit. A lot of people who complain about pedal noise should check all the cables and the pedals they use to make sure there aren't issues there. For the cost of this unit I am 100% satisficed. This is my personal experience.

@colinlamb
@colinlamb 3 года назад
Hello, yes- I can confirm that this unit is still 100% functional. Its power my wah and 7 pedals on my board. no cable noise or other noise. Make sure you use good cables and make sure your pedals are in a good order and condition. Also, make sure everything is cleanly and securely installed. I did a video on my channel about pedal board building if you would like to watch. Even if this thing died twice it would still be cheaper that "pedal power". Also, donner has good customer support and would likely replace the unit. Thanks for watching

I recently ordered one of these but it didn't seem to be working with my pedals, a Fulltone OCD overdrive and a Joyo multimode wah, if i turn the pedals on it doesn't seem to be working as no sound comes out the amp. I ordered a replacement but the same things are happening, how would i fix this?
@colinlamb
@colinlamb 4 года назад
Hey, I’m sorry to hear about that. I would try setting it up to run just one pedal: Plug it in Turn it on Attach 1 pedal to its proper voltage Plug patch cords into both sides of the pedal Other than that you would need to get in touch with donner. FYI, mines been good now since this video. Good luck and thank you for watching.
@drew945101
@drew945101 3 года назад
The OCD is a center positive pedal. Unfortunately, You can't run positive ground pedals with negative ground pedals on the Donner. The 9v section is not truely isolated. One thing you can do is get yourself a MXR DC brick power supply and run that guy off of the 18v out on the Donner. That will give you a few more power inputs and more flexibility. AND it's still cheaper than most high end power supply.

I don't trust anyone who doesn't pronounce the invisible H in w(h)izard 😁 thanks a lot for this. Have you ever happen to check with a multimeter if the - terminals are actually isolated? I've read that is the main problem with cheaper psu's claiming isolated outputs.✌️

@colinlamb 4 года назад
Hey, you’re whelcome. To be honest, I have not done that and that is beyond my capacity. I got this as an upgrade from a daisy chain and all the terrible issues those have. This unit has reduced all my unwanted pedal noise and my current rig has about 8 pedals on it. I was not stoked about paying more than 200$ for a power supply and took a chance. I’ve had it since this video and I’ve got no complaints.

If there are issues I have not had them. I’m pretty sure Donner is pretty good with support from what I’ve heard too. I would keep in mind that this is a budget option but how much better can a power supply be if they both supply isolated power. I just could not justify 200$ for a name brand unit. Not when there are so many overdrives out there to buy instead! Thanks for watching.
