@Rude_Boi

@julien mihawk I didn't feel I needed to explain experience and skill to you, since he's a boxer with obvious experience and skill. These men are in two different weight classes first off, so if a trained boxer were to get a good hit off, the smaller man wouldn't take it well... Wing Chun is great and so is Kung Fu, but this is a mismatch, and irl, you would see that.
@JohnSmith-qy1wm

I think the point is that if a boxer like that one landed hits like the ones that were landed, Ip would have been out cold. it's not like a "Ip couldn't beat a real boxer" comment. It's that if the fight went as it did, those hits would have been devastating.

I like how he used his friends techniques at the end to defeat him. It was as if he was saying that he was right and if it was a fair and honorable fight he wouldn’t have lost. Respect
@james_ford86
@james_ford86 2 года назад
The fight between Master Hung and Twister was a fair and honorable fight, up until Twister kept going after the fight was clearly over and killed him. No one forced Master Hung to step into the ring with Twister. Hung was a grown-@$$ man who made his own decisions. He would not have gotten into the fight if he didn't think he could beat Twister. Twister didn't pull any dirty tricks during the actual fight. He fought Hung straight up, even if he was a bit more aggressive than he normally would be in a random exhibition match. Hung would have lost, and did lose, that fight fair and square due to his old age and poor health sapping his stamina. He never should have gotten in the ring, but that's not Twister's fault, no matter what the latter fighter said about "chinese martial arts." I blame Twister for going overboard and killing the guy, but I find it hard to fault anything he did during the actual fight (not counting the end). Hung's death can be blamed on three things: 1. A younger, more physically fit and healthy fighter going overboard and beating him too much after the fight was clearly over. 2. Hung's age and health. 3. Hung's pride and foolishness. He should have known he wouldn't stand a chance in his condition, and his hubris got him killed.
@赤ゲキ
@赤ゲキ 2 года назад
@@james_ford86 Something similar happened in the 1st IP Man movie. No one forced Master Liu to go up against 3 men. He asked for it. General Miura probably would have let him live and leave but Sato killed him which feels dishonorable to General Miura. Similar to Master Hung, there were 3 things that can be blamed on Master Liu's death. 1. His Pride. 2. Overconfidence. He was already exhausted after fighting 1 man. What made him think he could take on 3 more? Maybe after having a good rest. Maybe. 3. Sato with no honor.
@james_ford86
@james_ford86 2 года назад
@@赤ゲキ Honestly, I felt that Liu had already earned the bag of rice that he tried to take when he beat the first man. This was rice already owed to him. He fought the other three fighters in an effort to win three more bags. He didn't win, and didn't get the three more bags, but that didn't mean he still didn't get the bag he'd earned earlier. I thought Sato shooting him was a dick move, as Liu didn't take anything he didn't already earn. I believe that, along with Sato acting without Muira's orders, was why Muira was so upset with Sato.

All fighting is like that, no style or fighter is perfect and everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face. Boxing a great but fails to make use of your legs and feet for attacking, Judo is awesome for one on one scenarios but the moment you try it in a pub you will see its flaws, precisely the moment you grapple and take them to the ground then their mate kicks you straight in the head etc.
@tehf00n
@tehf00n 2 года назад
@@dukenukem4447 You don't have to grapple on the floor after a judo throw. Almost all of the 67 kodokan throws can be modified to leave you standing. Even a tomoe nage can be treated like a backwards breakfall and if you launch them hard enough you can roll through it over your shoulder and end up standing. But yeah, you would already know before the fight not to end up on the floor in a bar fight. Just like here, where you would know a boxer uses his arms.
@dukenukem4447
@dukenukem4447 2 года назад
@@tehf00n Even with adaptions to not end up on the floor, Judo does not lend itself well to fighting multiple opponents, at all. Boxing is better in that regard as it requires minimal commitment to any opponent, enough to (hopefully) land an effective blow and keep moving so you don't get your head knocked off. I am not saying someone using Judo cannot fight two opponents, of course you can but that does not make Judo more efficient against multiple opponents than some alternatives. Boxing has some very clear disadvantages as well which takes me back to my original statement that everyone has a plan until they get punched in the head and there is no perfect fighter or style. I have seen plenty of lads who are proficient fighters get knocked on their ass and stay there by a kick in the groin or a shove or a punch etc. Many martial arts are stylish and have degrees of effectiveness but in real situations all fighting boils down to the same thing which is doing whatever you can to make sure ya keep yourself in one piece and in the extreme majority of fights I have seen it all comes down to whoever lands a decent blow first, nothing fancy or technical. The source for my claims is years an' years of working security, bouncing and the like. I have seen plenty of scraps over one thing or another and had fellas try fancy holds or such on myself and/or other staff but when you bear hug and man and lift him off his feet... Well, they don't do much aside from squirming.

@@dukenukem4447 I didn't mean to say Judo is great in streetfights. It's useful in certain close range situations for sure. I have used boxing more in street fights than anything else. I once fought two guys and mixed up boxing and jeet kune do parries, although trained mostly judo and jiu-jitsu, because it was more appropriate for the situation. The best move I did though was when the fight started, I was holding a scolding hot tray of chips and gravy and slammed it into the first guy's face and then punched it in. That gave me enough time to fight the second guy :D

The one thing that always bothered me about this part of the movie is that the boxer wanted to prove that boxing was superior to Kung Fu. But then told Ip Man that he couldn't use his feet. Then it's not Kung Fu....it's boxing. All he's doing is trying to prove who's a better boxer.

i dont see a problem... boxer had gloves on which lower the impact of his punches by over half, so its compleatly reasonable to ask that other guy also limits his effectiveness by not using kicks. That first hit by boxer that toke the IPman down would probably ended the fight if it was delivered with unpadded fist... if that didnt then the second time he got hit by 2 hit combo would have 100% taken him out given how he was wobling and how his cheek was bruised when being hit by gloved fists... plus its much easier to grapple without the gloves so the boxer was disadvantaging himself in that front aswell... not to mention its easier to punch close range without the gloves.

I always thought it would be cool to see this kind of thing more often. Instead of the commonplace MMA fighting styles we see in many things now, more of this actual cross-discipline combat, where each person isn't just versed in a mish-mash of stuff, but rather represents a dedicated focus to one particular type of combat. Gives off some pretty strong Street Fighter vibes, like Fei Long fighting Balrog maybe.

Yes early ufc was style vs style in the beginning. Then jujitsu kind of owned everything one Joyce Gracie Cana along. Then people mixed the style to be better fighters.
@Astraeus..
@Astraeus.. Год назад
@@phonedork Well, better fighters is arguable. In the end most UFC fighters end up with basically similar styles to all the others, the whole thing got way too homogenized. Which makes sense, to some degree, as the way they fight now is essentially in a rounded-manner, which probably provides the best changes for winning. Still, I'd really enjoy seeing a fight league with true cross-discipline combat. Would be very interesting to see wildly different fighting styles come to blows. Like Capoeira vs Boxing, or a true competitive Wrestler vs a Tae Kwon Do specialist. That kind of thing would be highly entertaining.

Twister is the most powerful opponent throughout the Ip Man movies while the Gunnery Sergeant is arguably the weakest. Twister has the fastest speed, best techniques, best footworks and brute force since he is an expert sportsman in the ring. While gunnery sergeant is a career soldier where his primary skills would be marksmanship(Every Marine is a Riflemen) and squad based tactics in gunfights(Go watch "Battle : LA", then you know what I mean), in unarmed fights he only has brute force but no speed and techniques, that's why he got smashed easily by Ip Man in the end.

To a degree you are right, but pressure points, vital areas, and joints would very much be affected by these "rabbit punches' especially from someone of Donnie yen's stature. No matter how bulky you are, a strike to the right part of your neck can be fatal, a strike to the right part of your arm can cause numbness as well as breakage, and a strike to areas such as the ear will cause dizziness and affect your sight. Just because its not an overwhelming strike does not mean its not effective, for example in MMA fights leg kicks do not do a lot of direct damage but after 50 leg kicks you will lose your ability to stand on the leg. The same logic applies to these rapid fire punches to the same region.

Ip Man was one of the best martial arts movies EVER. I felt the series immediately fell into a more Hollywood feel, starting with the 2nd film, and as a result, I think the quality really dropped off quickly. In the original, yes he fights 10 guys at once, but they're unarmed and he's PISSED, so it's at least somewhat believable. In the 2nd one he's fighting like, 57 guys at once and they're all armed. Yeah, the believability went out the window for me. And as for the fight against Twister, up until this point very few people have been able to challenge Ip Man, he wiped the floor with very skilled fighters, now this guy is beating the crap out of him? That's one of the issues when you build the protagonist to be TOO powerful, it feels artificial when they face someone who is capable of defeating them. Great fight scene though lol.

Ip Man did block and dodge a lot of the hits, but even through the blocks he was getting rocked because he'd never fought against that kind of power before. Plus Twister wasn't just some brute throwing his fists around, he was a martial artist, probably one of the best boxers in the world if not THE best. He would have been able to adapt to the way his opponent moved around and change his punches accordingly.
