bought my used 21 trail boss with 45k. Engine let go and trashed every rotating bearing while i was pulling an empty trailer 4 hours from home. Took GM 6 weeks to replace the engine. 7k miles later, My engine is leaking oil from the oil level sensor switch. A $20 part that requires 10.6hr labor to replace. Truck been at the dealer for 3 weeks "Waiting on parts" SMDH i want out of this heap of trash too. Have lemon law lawyer filing for compensation for catastrophic engine failure and the 6 weeks wait. Now if this new issue doesn't get fixed with a 4 week time period they have another strike on lemon law to go after GM with. Its crazy that this is the first new to me vehicle i have ever bought and this is what I get.
@@MontanaMan93 wow I'm sorry you dealing with that crap that is scary how I felt. Definitely get your compensation. I was second owner I brought it directly from first owner with low miles and still paid a lot of money I sold it a week ago and now I'm in a V8 tundra. That is ridiculous what we go thru with new vehicles. Do not get another one after this. They look nice but the parts and reliability are not there. My state Georgia and they suck with lemon law as it allows original owner to file any lemon law stuff.
All our GMs have AFM and about 300,000 miles, all early 2000 models - run great. That’s a maintenance issue. When a lifter collapses it’s because of oil issues which leads to overheating or burnout, not AFM. GM techs will under fill your oil, and over fill you transmission. You have to go behind them and check or learn to do it yourself. Many techs are trying to get your vehicle back in the shop or get you to buy a new one.
@@thegeorgiaguy9 that's right. I'm going to add extended water to it after power train warranty ends in couple months. It's too much to find a used vehicle to replace it and inflation and all the new crap is unreliable so I'm just going to keep this and keep warranty on it
Owner of the company where I work waited a year to get his new near $90000 2023 GMC Denali. After only 8000 miles of just going to work and back, the engine totally failed. Lifter failure trashed the cam which trashed the rest of the engine. Then the truck was gone for 2 months at the dealership with no loaner. He used the company plow truck to get to work and back. When he finally got the truck back, after a couple weeks, the truck left him stranded twice with electrical problems. Some harness that attaches to the alternator. Wow, what a joke!! I told him dont be surprised if the second engine fails cause I doubt GM actually fixed the problem.
Definitely take your word for it! I tend to like the American brand of trucks but the reliability is always in question! Especially with these newer trucks! 😡
Totally off topic , did you wrap your interior parts with the blue and carbon fiber ? Or did it come that way ? If you wrapped it , did you have to remove the trim or wrap it in place ?
@@MultiMuskyman I didn't remove any trim. The blue is hard plastic over the knobs and the carbon fiber is all overlays. I sold the truck but I do have all the interior trims for sell.
90000 miles on my 2015 Silverado 5.3 still going strong. It's not just Chevy and GMC they all have their own problems. I also add seafoam just before oil change to keep it clean.
I remember when you started a sbc motor, the oil pressure pegged at max. It’s the “on demand” oil pump. The problem is the 1/2 second when you put your foot in it til the oil pump starts working.
What year is your truck? And size engine? I have a 2016 and have a rebuilt trans at 86k and i bought the obd2 plug in to eliminate the AFM for it to be in v8 full time and no issues.
Chevy V8s are reasonably reliable without AFM. And the recent defective engine recall. Not sure you don’t have both a manufacturer and a dealer problem. Looks like you got one of those engines with debris inside.
@@Ts68mo catch can is very good to have on these direct injection engines. I really wish these didn't have the issue they have with lifters and torque converters
Keep you fingers crossed I made it to 192k on my 2018 5.3 then lost cylinder 4 due to AFM. Jasper motor now with AFM delete all same lifters. Gets about 2 mpg less but no worries now. Replaced crappy tranny at 162k so feels like a new truck

Just wonder if they really replaced the engine or just said they did. These dealerships are corrupt. They don’t have a lot of techs that know what they’re doing anymore so, good chance they didn’t even replace it. Maybe just bandaid repaired it to get it out the door
Almost everyone I know who owns a Silverado or Sierra ends up getting another one even after these repeated problems. Can’t take stupid out of some folks 😂
The 07-14 has lifter issues with only 4 particular cylinders. Then the next gen adds lifter issues for all cylinders since dfm can actuate all cylinders and the 6 speed problems too not to mention direct injection problems too. I stuck with the 07-14 gen tried and true 4 speed only lifter problems.
@@charlesludwig9173 they replaced engine due to lifter and cam going out. U probably should check my other videos too first. Also yes this one with new engine has lifter going bad on passenger front.

I planned to do the Texas speed cam and non DOD lifters in this one because I have out so much into this truck and everyone loves it but I'm tired of the quality issues. It's still running smooth once going but I'm noticing the knock at idle since they replaced it from the beginning and now the rattle in thiis video when lightly revving. With the stress this causes it's easier to just sell it but then I would have to replace it with another truck or SUV and that's even more stress. I use to have the 5.7 tundra and have many new parts for one still but people are selling them way too high and asking new car prices for ones with over 70k miles no warranty and over 6 years old. I think I'm going to just add the extended warranty once this power train warranty ends in November and then just go that route for my protection and peace or mind because have put too much into this car and already took a hit with my 2ss Camaro previously because of service issues and Chevy. You have to get a programmer to deactivate the cylinder deactivation with the GM trucks then they will function fine. I did that to my 2014 and I’m doing that to my 2023 deactivating the cylinder deactivation!

Basically even if u get programmer or drive in manual mode that will only extend the time you have but they still will go out. That's why brand new ones less than 500 miles go out. 2019 and up switched from active fuel management to dynamic fuel management which is worse because AFM only shuts off same 4 cylinders each time but dynamic can shut off any random combinations of cylinders up to 7 at a time and it's crazy because people with 2024 have issues. Dealerships in my area are constantly replacing these because of lifters. If GM can't give these places good parts, the job will be a bad result regardless and that sucks for the customer and the dealer because it leaves them in the middle to answer to the poor quality and repeat issues.

GM builds what buyers want. They want V8’s. But these V8’s must comply with Federal mileage mandates. So far, the solutions to these mandates have not been satisfactory, meaning a multitude of engine issues.
