Great to see you back Kevin, and good to see you properly rested again. What a brilliant vid, it was this type of content that got me hooked and subbed in the first place. The way you explain technical concepts in such a clear and concise manner, in plain language that everyone can understand, presenting facts without fear or favour. I just know your new headquarters will be a huge and well-deserved success, mate! Cheers and all the very best from Oz. 👍🇦🇺

Totally agree with you Kevin. Two different materials always have different expansion and retraction rates. Throw in heat cycles etc. It can be a quandary
@mrchopboogie
@mrchopboogie 9 месяцев назад
Working in power plants over 25 years, turbine rotor/shell differential expansion is monitored closely. Warmup ramp rates are used to help with heat cycling. The same applies here, as long as the warmup rate is sufficient, I would rather have the stock studs.

@johnwoodworth4204 9 месяцев назад
I am a retired structural engineer. Kevin, you are absolutely correct in your statement. The high tensile studs will, because of their strength absorb more force and resist elongation. But those higher forces will be transferred to the stud connections at the case which has not been strengthened, and even possibly weakened by modification. If you don't get an immediate or short term failure you will have reduced the factor of safety against long term problems.
@michaelrubbo7467
@michaelrubbo7467 9 месяцев назад
john, thanks for that detail. i wonder if using helicoil inserts in the cases would decrease the possibility of failure using the high tensile studs. This is a completely hypothetical question, as the labor, cost and risk of installation failure of helicoil inserts in the cases would push most builders away from this option.

Same video popped up in my feed as well, I love it when you engineers get into the weeds a little. He made it sound like the head had to move a tiny amount under those kinds of pressures. With the high tensile studs there was no movement, or bounce, and showed the crack in the block. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! I would tune in live weekends after noon.

Just a thought Kevin. When heated I believe high tensile will move or grow just the same as low carbon steel. What it won’t do is stretch under pressure. So yes the studs could pull out of the case or head from high compression. But with heat they should grow or contract like any stud. Just my experience from being a machinist. Let me know what you think. Thanks

As for “live Q&A” Friday nights. Subject: seems builders are suggesting stay with stock components instead of billet cam plates, special oil pumps, stock cylinder studs, etc….have we been paying for unnecessary performance parts?

Nice to see you in your new environment! I had problems with an aircooled BMW pulling case threads with the stock studs under "severe conditions" such as using the factory specs to torque the nuts. The fix is a special longer length helicoil (twice as long as normal) and reduced torque. Is that even an option with HD cases?

@kevinbaxter Great Video as Always Kevin. As I am Not particularly worried about the scheduling of your Q&A Live Stream as I work a 6 day on and 6 day off Roster. But I would Like to See Figures of what Air Flow from the M8 cylinder heads that can be achieved as I think the Stock heads flow at about 350cfm but that could be with a 1.5 mm extra cut on the Valve seat and new oversize valves installed, I have a Stock Displacement 107 cu in M8 with a 468 Zippers RedShift cam installed with the S&S Lifters and Billet S&S Cuffs and S&S adjustable pushrods at present I am probably a fraction better than 107 HP and 124.9 ft lb of To that's really Great but since my Bike was Taken to tuned on the Dynomometer I have installed a 47,000 volt coil pack and a Set of NASCAR 12mm Kevlar Braided Copper and Nickle wire Ignition Leads, I also have the Kuryakyn ES Hypercharger and a S&S SuperStreet 2into1 Stepped Header pipe with DB Killer DELETE and Catalytic Converter DELETE,I am impressed because I have a very wide range of Usable and very responsive power ,But I do notice that when on the open unlimited hahahaha (Private Access Road) Doing speeds of 150 kilometres per hour Onwards it's fabulous that this cam and this engine is only really just coming into its own Sweet Spot ,I have a Idea of what I am doing on Revolutions at 110 Kilometres per hour which is approximately 2250 RPM but just never Notated what I am Doing for Revolutions for 150 KLM plus though, I wish to Purchase very soon a Moonshine Horsepower Billet Square Port Ported and polished Intake Manifold that is Just 4mm larger at the Throttle Body which should Fit so they Say , and I would like to also Purchase a Set of Frankenstein Heads that are the 1.5 mm Enlarged Valve seat and matching oversize valves when I do get to this Stage all I Really need then is to Buy some good quality Roller Rockers and some Better Roker Towers I think But with these mods I invisage to get 109 or maybe 110 HP and 130 ft lbs of Torque out of this Stock Bore Stock Stroke Engine I guess I will need to Step up my Injectors capacity for Flow but at the Moment as it is I'm Getting 322 Kilometres per Tank of Fuel on the 2021 Sportglide which is Blood Good I Reckon. When will you be able to Do a In-depth Video on How to Go About Fitting a Small Dose Nitrous Oxide Shot and all of the Associated Installation because I really would love to See how you Go about this as I Trust in your ability and your years of expertise and value you're Instructions and salute you for you're Dedication in the Field , Kevin I have to Say that you are Held in the Highest Standing when it comes down to Maticulous Assembly and Disassembly of Machinery ,I Take my Hat off to You my Brother. Great to see video from the new place👍. I agree the case is the weakest point. Since you have the knowledge and tooling, why not install steal inserts in the case? Use better studs and top of the line head bolts? Worth the longevity or do the steal inserts compromise the case? Why did the motors go to case studs instead of keeping with the Shovel design?
