So the French cleat tools wall didn’t go as fully planned. I changed a few things along the way and it didn’t turn out the way I wanted.
Next time ill use a table or track saw and ill cut straight then 45 degree rather than just cutting 45’s.

I love (on the spectrum) your honest filming. It optimizes the learning curve for your viewers. *last quote "That's not a circular saw.. this is a circular saw" -Paul Hogan

It's ironic to me how I almost didn't watch this prior to my first FC wall project. Why? BECAUSE...seeing mistakes really drives home why people do some of the same things which end up working. Just seeing a great finished project simply doesn't teach like this does. THANK you for your transparency! GOT my sub, dude.

Thanks mate. Most things take a few trial runs so I know how the problems we find can help. Have a great week

To lock in the case holder at the 16:00 mark, just cut a block to slide in above the tool holder cleat. Just attach a tab or screw in the side of the block to you can easily remove it when you want to take down the tool holder.

I'm so jealous of your metric tools & measurements. I live in Canada, which theoretically uses metric, except 80% of our population lives within 200km of the border to the USA... so all of our tools & fasteners use Imperial, unless you specifically seek out metric ones, which aren't usually easy to find.

With your clamps put the block horizontally and then just clamp the clamp to the block and you will fit a lot more side by side. And you can fit different sizes next to each other.

And for the quick clamps, if you make a bar and face them in towards it, so that the handle faces out, you can just made it as wide as you need to accomodate all of your clamps without it sticking too far from the wall. Really handy when you have limited width in the shed.

Strait edge and a couple of pump clamps make the circ saw a budget mans track saw - little bit of set up time for each cut but you can measure off the opposite sides factory edge for a bit more precision. Might not be super pretty but its still properly functional, gotta fix it though cos its your youtube den😂😂 18k mate - channels blowing up!

Yeah it would have worked a bit better. Definitely gotta change it up and make it proper. It’s definitely blown up over the last month.

Good video I used the same ply from bunnings as you 18 months ago just on one wall works well. Went to get another sheet around October last year none available anywhere come back into stock now but haven't got round to it. I was lucky enough to have a makita track saw to make the cuts. I also made a couple of mistakes with cuts and now use them for spacers behind the racks to stop them tipping or shorter hooks for lighter racks. Steve Tas.

Good stuff Steve. It’s been hard to track down timber stock. Glad you found some. How do you rate the makita track saw? I’m keen to grab something real soon.

I've have the cord powerd makita track saw for nearly two and half years no problems at all love using it. I use an m class bosch vacuum cleaner with some duct tape over the blade change hole hardly any dust out of it. I think any of the main brand track saws are fairly good . I'm coming up for retirement in a few years otherwise I would buy into the 40v makita range. I'm a makita man last 40 years although I have invested in some 18v and 12v bosch tools 6 year warranty on battery's, charger and tool great tools. Steve Tas

So for the clamps, just take that 2x2 (50mmx 50mm), put a couple of cleats along it and clamp the clamps to it. Not hard. Mine hang off the side of a shelf.
@DarrylF85
@DarrylF85 2 года назад
So that $90-ish dollar 15mm is probably a higher grade, structural, possibly even marine grade. That’s way more than you’d need for french cleats. Non structural 19mm should come in about $60 a sheet. Failing that, you can almost always get Form-Ply, which is a high quality bond at 17mm. Also has the nice advantage of a water resistant coating and comes in black.

Yeah cutting strips with the circular saw aint the greatest. Slight errors get compounded with each piece. Need to reset with a straight edge every so often. I reckon the rails on the wall would look better painted. Also rub some wax on the 45's and they'll slide even better. Lastly if you haven't, I'd sand off the sharp edges. They're like razor blades.
@AddictedtoTools
@AddictedtoTools 2 года назад
That’s definitely what happened. They got worse every cut. Which was why I started to really see the changes at the end. I’ll see about painting it. White? Sanding the sharp edges is a good idea, as well as the wax. Might look at doing that. Cheers for the input mate. Pleasure🍻

@@AddictedtoTools, if you do want to paint them I think it might work better to use another colour on the white background, because it would make it easier to see exactly where the cleats are when you're hanging stuff.

Having overhead doors on sheds an aussie thing? I just noticed that, #jealous. We definitely don't do that in the midwest US.

I’m not sure if it’s an Aussie thing or not. It was a an extra option when I bought the shed and it’s been awesome. I wouldn’t change it. It’d be crazy if it’s not available where you are. Interesting to hear that though.

@AddictedtoTools
@AddictedtoTools 2 года назад
Sure would. I have a really cheap table saw, but I don’t really trust it. I might have to make the jump, or at least get a track saw.

I also wanted 18/19mm ply for a mitre bench and drawers but didn’t want to pay massive $$$ found the best price for the thickness I wanted was the black formply from the green shed and really like the black look. Also if you don’t have a track saw I recon look into making your own track (and mount to the bottom of circular saw) so that it takes away the small errors on your cuts that obviously compound when doing heaps.

It seem that if you pinch that blade, it can kick back and take your fingers on your left hand while your trying to catch that piece that is falling.

I almost clicked off in the first 20sec. I was getting dizzy with the erratic movement. Since I’m a year behind I’ll assume the camera work improved by now.

I love Milwaukee stuff but they definitely have trigger issues. Drills, saw, miter saws, just about anything. We pay a premium it’s time for them to get there crap together with quality components.

Lol Milwaukee Circ Saw POS. I had one DOA out of the combo pack box and the warranty replacement was also DOA.

@@AddictedtoTools Cause it was part of a combo kit I had to stick with the Milwaukee. The replacements replacement (saw no. 3) actually worked out of the box and It’s not a tool that I use much anyway, but when I have to it’s always a “wonder if the POS will work today” moment.

Why dont you just put timber across the whole wall and look into the new packout workshop range?

The packout wall range won’t be out for at least a year or two here in Australia and will cost more than the shed😂. It’s a fair question though

Would you say 12mm ply is ok for a cleat wall or would you pony up for 18mm if you had the choice?

Question - Is it possible to use half inch OSB (1/2 inch x 3 inches x 48 inches) to create french cleats? Is half inch OSB strong enough? Will it hold cabinets or tools?
