For the really heavy loads the latest trucks have automatic transmissions combined with double reduction final drives and planetary gears. These multiply the torque by up to 4x or even higher depending on requirements. No manual gearbox or clutch would cope. These sorts of drivelines were pioneered in the Hayes and Pacific logging trucks in Canada where the engines were only 400hp but were able to carry 50+tons of logs.
That's my fix for today. Thanks Matt Hayes & to those incredible people at Doolans. Poetry in motion like this involves a fantastic effort by many with good planning & responsibility by a fully focused team.
When I was a kid we lived next to an old fashion non freeway highway. We were on route to a airbase & many interesting vehicles went by. I would stand out front taking it all in . Watching these videos makes me realize that kid is still standing at the side of the road.
As a child I was always fascinated by huge trucks and earth movers. I remember one day in particular when I sat under a tree and watched a dozer cut a new road into the side of a hill. I never got in the way of the operator and in the afternoon he stopped and came over to where I was sitting. He asked if there was a store where I could get some cold soda. It was maybe a couple blocks away but he gave me some money and I ran the errand. We drank our sodas and he chatted a bit before going back to work. Strange that I've never forgotten that. Sometimes I go on Google Earth and look at that same location. Not much has changed since then and it looks pretty much the same as it did 75 years ago. Still like the big trucks and machines.
@@norman7179 For sure .I also remember when I was about 8 they moved two houses in next door to our home. Spent the Summer on that . Funny thing is when I was 31years I ended up lifting my own 1910 post & beam house. Then I dug out the foundation area, building forms & having a couple guys help on pour days. I did exactly what the crew did to prep & finish the lift job. Kids do watch & learn. P.S. I also Google that location ( grandpa built the home) . Here's to staying young . Good day sir., Nick
You're not weird at all! Some people just have an understanding and appreciation for mechanical things and physics! For the ones that don't have the mechanical aptitude for it, and attempt it, it can turn into extreme disaster in a heartbeat.
I don't care what country you're in, what language you speak, or what side of the road you drive on, THAT is oversize. And brilliantly handled by Doolan's.
My husband had a lot of guts all the years he hauled carnival equipment and I will always be proud of him!!! These guys are amazing and have a lot of nerve!! In my opinion truckers don't get the respect they deserve!!
If i hadna seen it i wouldnt have believed it!! ...what intrigues me also is how you load cargo of this size??? and how long it takes knowing how much weight distribution etc plays into it ...my dad worked over here in Perth in drilling and mining for decades his work always fascinated me 😊
@@Mick_4591 I have been totally slack to be fair I have plans to get back out there in the next few months, I’ll see how I go I know people want to see more videos
25 yrs of trucking in the States and I've never seen a wide load here even close to this one. I guess it's against the law in Amerika. Beautiful, Aussies....I'm still saving my dough to move there!!!!!
I remember them transporting the space shuttle on a specialty built flatbed. Size wise the shuttle is bigger but as for weight I think the mining equipment is much heavier than the shuttle.
@@jamesrelford4560 Just did a quick look at it, James..yes, my bad, that's a K100E...spittin image of the Pete I use to drive..probably because made by same corporation.

From what I know with my experience a large load whatever you may consider that is usually is done by matching gears when going upon large hills, the tractor behind doesn't not stare they instead collide bumpers ahead of their matching gears and have to main that speed and rpm. They may have to do it differently here I'm guessing with a 18 speed.
outstanding video. equipment look sharp, clean that tell me the owner takes pride in his company and its equipment. the video was very sharp and clear. thanks for the video. (Mississippi gulf coast, USA)
I see they have the first tractor attached via a pole like structure I think that's what applies the pressure aka support so definitely different that attaching bumpers and just being led by the first / main tractor
Matt Hayes, AWESOME!!! What are the trucks (vehicles, lorries, whatever?)? And what are their engines (liter size)? I assume that they are heavy-duty severe service (?) 6 X 6's (or 4X6's?)? The following is to the best of my knowledge: The front unit has a Kenworth hog-nose ( conventional, straight, no slope to the hood). Later it has a Mack hog-nose (slightly sloped hood) leading, in tandem (for hills/slopes?). The second unit has a Kenworth cab-over (cab over engine, COE). Later it has a Mack (?) hog-nose (slightly sloped hood) in tow. And why the towing? Was it a backup??? Beautiful equipment! May you and yours stay well and prosper.
Hey Terry lots to get there and a lot I don’t have questions for to be honest sorry, the vehicles are usually the normal road models with the larger of the engine capacity’s suited to this type of work. The tandem pulling is for more horse power up a couple of big hills and when a truck is on the end it is fit extra brake power. The variants of cab over (flat nose) and conventional bonneted trucks are just what the user choose to purchase at the time , a lot has been written about the benefits of each over the years but it comes down to what the user prefers at the time no doubt. Sorry I can’t help more.
My guess is they jack it up and either install the tires or support the machine and just drive the trailer out from underneath it. I've seen it done before
They have the wheels on the dumpy and either drive the truck over the low loader or low loader reverses under the dump truck , then they take the wheels off dump truck for the trip and do the reverse when they get to destination
The brands are American but they are manufactured in Australian to suit the Australian terrain and the heavy haulage that road trains and mining trucks need to pull.
This IS done in the US, folks. Was driving through Texas on a concert tour a few years ago, and passed a Terex Titan convoy going 25 mph on the freeway. Cops routed us into the grass in the median to pass. One trailer had the chassis, with outrigger dollies on the front corners of the Titan frame in case it tipped on a curve, a second had the dump bed, then 3 flat bed semis with 2 tires on each trailer. Took up the whole expressway shoulder to shoulder. It was being delivered to a mine in Georgia.
Wondering what the differences were between the set ups. 2 pulling vs 1 pulling and 1 pushing. My guess is it has to do with the trailers? The tandem was pulling a Tag a Long Trailer while the other team had a Dbl Gooseneck. Or did I miss something?
You all prolly dont give a shit but does someone know of a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow lost the password. I would love any help you can give me
@Arlo Saul I really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and Im in the hacking process atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
What is the difference in two pulling, one pulling and one pushing? Thanks for a very outstanding video. I love watching larges loads moved over land, water. It amazes me at the planning that goes into one of these large load moves. Thanks for an outstanding video. It was great on wide screen.
The driver of the black Kia Cerato could've waited like the rest of the road users on the opposite lane, I'm pissed off on how people in this society are impatient, this is stupid, love the vid mate keep'em coming 👍😁
At the beginning, you tell us they are hauling Komatsu 930Es. Now that I've seen a couple of them, I still don't know what they are. What do they do? Who's buying them?
Just curious..so the two lead trucks that are pulling..do they have to shift gears at exactly the same time??and would that be the same as the push in pull team?? Gorges trucks by the way..well done on the team work.
Salute to my distant cousins Down Under. The country side is not very different from many places I've been in N. America. I've always wanted to visit Australia, but it's not likely to happen at this stage. I'll content myself with the videos of the country side.
@@WycliffStudios Typically they are way too heavy for the road relative to the amount of contact with the ground. Putting it on a trailer like that spreads the weight out over many axles and a much larger surface area. Much easier on the roads they need to traverse. Also they are probably incredibly slow so actually driving one of those from A to B would require shutting down huge stretches of road for a very long time.
