The Doolittle raid sent two messages to Japan: (1) the US was at least as aggressive and determined as the Japanese in this war they started (2) their Emperor continued to live not because his military had protected him, but by our choice. And the later had to send a shiver down their spines.

I was still 3 years old when Pearl Harbor occurred. I still remember the shock of Mom and Dad as we listened to Rosevelt’s announcement speech on the radio. I was 4 when Doolittle’s raid occurred. When I was 70, I started taking flying lessons. A year or two later, I stopped renting aircraft, and bought my own. It was only a trainer, a Cessna 172. I named it the Ruptured Duck, and had the Donald Duck and crutch emblem painted on both sides of the nose. I flew until I was 80, then decided to quit. I sold the plane. It is hangared in Owosso MI, and still bears the nose art. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

I was 5 and sick and home from kindergarten the day JFK was assasninated by the deepstate. It was all over the news. The following days I remember seeing the coffin draped with the flag on TV. In those days everyone had black and white televisions. As for you, may your days be long my friend. It doesn't look like our country will be around for long and I don't know what I can tell you besides look to Jesus Christ. At least you and I have had long lives. I feel sorry for those Gen Z people who are just now having babies and making a start in life.

I had wondered how our generation would handle something like Pearl Harbor, but September 11th answered that. A few volunteers, but mostly Americans waited for someone else to fight the war for them.

@@SonnyBubba two exercise courage is up to the individual. My wife and I were the first to be married in the new church building of the congregation that I joined. Before I came to the church, the members had begun to build it by faith, with the news of the money northern material to finish the building but they proceeded with the project with their own tools. One day as they were working, they saw a fire at a farm down the road. All of the men from the church ran down the road and helped put out the fire. The owner was surprised at the courage and quick work of our men. She supplied all the number needed to complete the Church building. This country still has men of courage, if you know where to look.

My great uncle Bill was a Plank Owner and Airdale on the Hornet. He had to help on the maintenance on the B-25’s. He later was trained on night operations and survived the war. My younger brother is named after him.

I knew a little about this raid, and even knew that the ruptured duck was one of the planes that took part, but this detailed memoir is great stuff. The Doolittle raid had far-reaching effects all out of proportion to the actual damage done. Apart from sticking a thumb in the Japanese eye, it caused them to pull back air assets and surface forces that otherwise would have been available during the initial stages of the war, possibly making the first moves into the Solomans more costly

This an amazing story. Brave American heroes all. Very disappointed that there was only one pict relevant to the story, Not even a shot of a B-25. The plane shown has not apparent relevance to the Raid.

He got to give Roosevelt credit the Doolittle raid, although militarily was not significant at all. It caused the Japanese to make a reaction and a military move that destroy them, and William Yamato knew this that could not keep up with the economic powerhouse of the United States.

I read that the Doolittle raid made Japan to keep more troops in Japan and deploy a carrier task force in the north. They feared the US would attack from Alaska. That northern task force may have been at Midway changing the outcome of Midway battle.

My great uncle was at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7th. He was on Ford Island and saw the Arizona blow up and the Oklahoma capsize. He was part of the rescue effort to save the trapped men on the Oklahoma when she rolled over. My Grandpa told me he was so excited when news of Doolittle's raid was broadcast that he almost went broke buying drinks for everybody at the local watering hole. He was on the Missouri in '45 in Tokyo Bay and did get to witness the Japanese sign the surrender, but until the day he died he despised anything and everything Japanese. His favorite saying was "Never forget, Never forgive"

Four of my mother’s 6 older brothers served in WW2. Her brother Bill was captured on Corregidor and was a prisoner of the Japanese for the remainder of the war. He survived, and the formerly robust and strong soldier was 88 pounds when liberated. He had been beaten, abused, and starved. My mother also despised the Japanese until she died in 2022.

My next door neighbor when I was a kid was a retired guy named Tom Varnado. He was already in the Navy when pearl harbor was attacked and was on the Hornet when Doolittle launched this raid on Tokyo. He was a really nice man, originally from Bogalusa, Louisiana. Used to come over and watch Victory At Sea with my dad.

One of my great experiences was getting to meet and hear Henry Potter, the navigator on Doolittle's plane 1 speak at out Rotary Club. Then later to spend about an hour on the phone with him as he recounted more of the raid. In the phone call, I was attempting to invite him back to speak again. Sadly, he became ill some days later and passed away. The greatest generation.

Japan after the Doolittle Raid: “Ok, I think we fucked around too much”. Japan after Midway and sinking Yorktown: “Ok… maybe if we just sink those last two carriers, we’ll be fine”. Japan after it sunk Hornet, leaving Enterprise as the last one standing, and she’s hellbent on revenge and obliterating the entire IJN: “OMG! OH FUCK!! WHY WONT THIS CARRIER DIE?! ITS LIKE A VENGEFUL GHOST WANTING US ALL DEAD!!! HOW ISN’T SHE DEAD?! WE’VE SUNK HER THREE TIMES!!!!! SHE’S SINKING OUR NAVY ONE BY ONE WE GOTTA GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE”!!!!!!! Interpose: “You took my sisters. So I’m taking your Navy”.

I love history and war history in particular. What I don't love is AI generated voice BS and there's enough voice glitches in this video to make me strongly suspect that's what's happening here. Maybe I'm wrong and the narrator just has a robotic delivery...maybe.
