In my naval experience, Adak was always pronounced A as pronounced in "ate" -dak as in Dakota... and usually used as as an example of punishment by being aassigned there...

The Aleutian's campaign was where Japan's "Emotional Victory" was more important than the territory actually gained. Kiska/Attu, two Islands so $hitty that the Inuit only stays there during fishing seasons, Americans that knew anything about those Islands were like "Good Luck with That"

I have another comment that I feel is appropriate considering the topic of this issues today. My Uncle Harold F Willard was a member of the Silent Service in the US Navy during World War II. In fact, on December 7th, 1941 he and a buddy were in Honolulu and they were up on Diamond Head just sightseeing around 7:00 a.m. They saw the entire attack unfold in front of them and we're completely gobsmacked. They did their level best to get back to their boat, which I do not recall the name of but the local sheriff, police department and military police had all the roads closed and were telling people to get back into their homes and stay off the roads. So he didn't get back to his boat until late that evening and everything was shot to hell and gone and he said that it was a shock that he never got over. My Uncle Harold was a hero. He stood about 6 ft 2 so he was very tall for a submariner. He had problems with his ears his entire life from the crash Dives and the depth charging they experienced in the Pacific. Rest in peace Uncle Harold, you did your job and you did it well. Your loving nephew, Jim. 🇺🇲⚓️🙏💖💯☕️🚬🍻

I'm fairly late to the party with my subscription but I have to say that you're presentation, attention to detail and historical accuracy is on a par with the best there is on the Internet or elsewhere. I get immense enjoyment as well as another enlightening history lesson every time I visit your channel so I wanted to thank you for that and for your hard work as a former adios / video editor for a record company here in town I understand the work in the hours that go in to what you do and I want you to know that it's not lost on me, or others of course that are fans of your channel! Another job well done and just wanted to say thank you from your friend Jim in Seattle washington!🇺🇲⚓️🙏💖💯☕️🚬

For a more detailed account of the VT-8's land based Avenger attack on the IJN from Midway, check out the book "A Dawn Like Thunder" by Robert Mrazek. The book is a spectacular account of Torpedo 8 at Midway and Guadalcanal. The story of "The Last Avenger" is both inspiring and heartbreaking. Ensign Albert "Bert" Earnest was wounded by a cannon shell which exploded in his face during the attack. His Avenger severely damaged with elevator control and the hydraulic system shot out. Without a compass, he flew 200 miles back to Midway using dead reckoning by guessing his location based on the position of the sun. Ens. Earnest had to use trim to control altitude due to the loss of elevator control. He soon found out his Radioman Harry Ferrier was wounded but alive. Unfortunately, Gunner Jay Gunner was killed. In a show of exceptional airmanship and a little luck, the plane and crew found its way back to Midway where it made a crash landing. Of the men that went to battle in USS Hornet TBDs and Midway TBFs, only three survived with the other being Ensign George Gay.

There were two different 165 foot (US Coast Guard Cutters during WW2. I imagine the pair sent to Alaska were the ones that kinda look like tugboats. These were "ice going" (reinforced for thin ice and "growlers" but not true Ice Breakers....)

I asked CoPilot what book this is: The book you’re referring to is “With the Old Breed” by Eugene Sledge. It’s a memoir based on Sledge’s experiences as a marine during World War II. The book provides vivid accounts of the Pacific War, including the attack on Peleliu, a small coral island where American soldiers, including Sledge, fought against the Japanese. The airfield on Peleliu has now been revitalized and renamed the “Sledge Runway” in honor of Eugene Sledge, an Alabama native and University of Montevallo professor who passed away in 20011. If you’re interested in learning more about this period in history, Sledge’s memoir is an excellent read.

'Japanese Were Shocked'. 'Shocked?' This is what psychologists call 'projection', the blaming of others for your own weaknesses. The Japanese control their feelings, while Americans give way to them.

Every description of the Japanese float plane's searches talk about the IJN cruiser TONE, and pronounce it like it were a sound or a musical note tone. But all Japanese names ending in the the vowel e pronounce that letter, instead of using English pronunciation rules and leaving it silent. And BTW that search began the saga that ultimately sealed the fate for our carrier Yorktown. Although it was a sub that finally sunk her.

This was part 2 of the Battle of Midway in mid 1942..The Battle of Guadalcanal in late 1942 put the Japanese Navy in full defense. The Japanese just couldn't stop the offensive US Navy anymore. It was a defensive war for the Japanese Navy from now on until the end of the war in August 1945.

This conversation needs to happen. Juxtapose the antebellum United States in the de jure original jurisdiction. To the United States of the current Lieber code martial law on the left the Khazarian mafia, industrial-military-legislative - judiciary - executive - UN - Nazi - Communist- Satanist etc etc complex that controls the stupid BLM, antifa, incorporated governance on the left side. Our, USMC, make the claim it is not them. It is Navy( bullshit the Navy is not on the land and soil) it is DOD bullshit 1775 USMC more ancient responsibility. The USMC take orders from the several states and Oregon is one of those several states 1859. We are the ARTICLE I Section I provisional government on Oregon the land and soil de jure to the de jure USMC that billet must exist!!! With the proper oath to the Proper Constitutions, QUESTION?: who in the USMC is responsible for keeping the part of the oath that covers "Enemies from within, Domestic?" It cannot be the Federal US Army they are the de facto perpetrators. When the USMC claim is made "to shift responsibility" we deny that claim and demand the USMC support their claim. A preponderance of evidence is in the public domain and published at www.orsja.org. The title of command, the chain of custody, the provenance the several states in Congress Assembled created the United States Marine's / USMC in 1775, then later they issued the, unanimouse Declaration of the thirteen united States of America in 1776. Immediately followed by the 1777 Confederation and perpetual Union styled The United States of America, its articles and Constitution circa 1859 and Oregon's Constitution circa 1859 the 33 state among the several states. With a Claim of Conusance and a Caveat to Will in open court on Oregon. There have been Zero rebuttals over a period of 6 years.

@petes5041 I'm a US citizen. Trust me, WE Know that it was a tremendous group effort!! People do this propaganda because they believe they will sell more books or get better public attention smh. This obviously wasn't written by an American. We call it rocks, gravel or crush & run lol. I've only ever heard it referred to as "shingle" by UK citizens lol. Not sure what the French call it though. But we are taught growing up that it was definitely a joint effort. No one allied country was better than another. However, we also are aware that at that point in history, it was the british that had more experience in fighting Germany. That's why many service members and officers were sent to England for various training. We even feel it gets old hearing it portrayed this way. I think it's hilarious as to how many times this story says Americans and yet uses shingle to describe the piles of rocks. 😆😂😆.
