With this run, I have 1st place in all categories in Doom 3 on speedrun.com. I seriously thought Corpseflesh's 55:54 was unbeatable for a long time and then, when I actually decided to try to beat it, it didn't take very long. That being said, this run is, as always, still improvable. A 54 might even be possible if one were to grind the crap out of this game.
The run that I am most proud of is still my Nightmare Any% 58:56 because that one was serious PAIN to get. A lot of optimization and a lot of grinding. Nevertheless, I present to you Doom 3 in 55:30. Enjoy!

@@xeviosox4326 It should be possible on console as well. You just have to know when to jump, when to fire, run up slopes to gain extra height etc.

well the darkness doesnt really serve any purpose for the speedrun. i know where i am going whether it is dark or lit. however i would not recommend these gfx settings for a first playthrough.

i dont even know metro games 😀 bfg edition has faster movement than org doom 3. other than that, i got high fov which makes it look faster and i do decent bunnyhops and strafejumps.

Do you have any plans to do a simple TAS of D3? Maybe not using save states but just slow the game down so you have perfect accuracy and whatnot? There is an incomplete TAS of this game on RU-vid but I figure you're the best at this game so I'd ask if you're interested.

Honestly, your suggestion is not a bad idea. I have done a segmented speedrun of RoE and that was a really fun project. I looked up the TAS and it seems like someone was not really looking to be fast in it 😀. I don't think I will be doing that though. Too much real life stuff going on. It also might be a bit pointless since you can do a lot of crazy shit in a normal-speed segmented run. Check out Kibumbi. It probably just seems faster because of decent movement, high fov and 60fps. When I play, it feels slower than when I watch the run later.

I mostly get in the enemy's face to make the spread itself almost not matter. I also only use the shotty for imps, maggots and enemies that give you enough leeway so you can miss a little and still kill.

Is the bfg edition level layout on pc the same as the regular doom 3 version on pc? Because i just played thru the original xbox version and the layouts seem quite different.

I think on the Xbox version the levels were chopped up into more levels because of the hardware limitations.

Regular Doom 3 and BFG edition have the same layouts. Doom 3 for the original xbox has a slightly different layout along with missing levels because the console just couldn't handle all of Doom 3

If you don't count the running I did in 2019 and 2020, this year it only took 108 attempts. But before that I played Resurrection of Evil so I was quite warmed up.

@@Sequoia01 It would be interesting but I really don't know how to do that and I am not sure if you could manipulate enemy movement enough to have them do something every time like in Doom and Doom 2. Although, I am currently working on a segmented speedrun for Resurrection of Evil Nightmare on vanilla and that is going to be pretty clean.

Invisible walls were added there in the BFG edition. You could do it in vanilla though.

How were you able to bypass the cutscenes in BFG without using mods? I would love to try the strategies you did, this game was such a big thing growing up, and seeing you crushing it is super inspiring!

I did use a sourceport called RBDoom3BFG. It doesn't change the game in any way other than makes cutscenes skippable and allows some more graphical tweaks. In Alpha Labs 3, why not just press the button that automatically discards the barrel of waste once you have it secured in the claw? Is it more efficient to maneuver the toxic waste into the incinerator manually?

Because the button maneuvers the crane above the incinerator and then all the way back to its initial position. Even if it did work, it would not save any time, though. You have to wait anyways.

I get the BFG in Alpha Labs 1 at 10:21 in the video from Campbell, Swan's bodyguard. Since they are escaping and you are never supposed to catch up to them but you do, when you kill them, he actually drops a BFG.

Hello, can you tell me how to do such brightness as you have in alpha lab2. I tried playing around with r_gamma and r_brightness but it does not look like in your run. Also, according to the console i have r_useHDR 1 and its not changeable.

1. www.speedrun.com/doom3/guide/q7ofr 2. www.speedrun.com/doom3/guide/zaovw Use the same principle to install RBDOOM3BFG and type commands to turn off HDR and make the game brighter etc. r_gamma 3 is what I used and that worked on my old PC but now it doesn't anymore. Now I get an error "SetDeviceGammaRampFailed" or smth similar. I also made the recording of the game itself brighter in OBS.

@@lekolegaYeah, the first time I saw that was possible on a much older speedrun, I tried it myself and managed to pull it off. Not good enough to actually speedrun the game, but triggering that glitch was hilarious. I do love how the character model was carrying an actual BFG, not just a prop. Didn’t have to go through that effort, but id did it anyways.

10:16 After the nade jump to get the PDA, I move quickly and kill those 2 maggots in the reactor room or whatever that is. That unlocks the door to the hallway where, if you are fast enough, you can still see Swann and his bodyguard run away as a sort of a scripted event. Turns out, Swann's bodyguard is actually carrying a BFG with him that when you kill him, you can pick it up.
