Apparently, Randy Scott was also Art Data Interactive's CEO. You know, the same incompetent CEO that completely killed any chances of this port being actually playable by being a total airhead who didn't understand what it takes to write a proper port. He should've just been a musician. His and Celand's interpretations of Doom music are so fucking good. Too bad this little band seems to have been a very short-lived thing. Hilariously enough, according to the poor programmer saddled the job of creating _some_ kind of a shippable product in just ten weeks in ridiculous conditions, the only reason this magnificent soundtrack even exists is because she had no time to port/write a proper MIDI driver and decided to just stream audio from the disc. I guess it'd take like a week or two to go the MIDI route and that was just too much, given the circumstances. So she asked for live covers, CEO said "sure" and... well, we have this now.

this is one of the more interesting stories in gaming history. i just imagine the CEO's true dream in life was to be in a rock band but ended up stuck as the CEO of some software publishing company, completely in over his head lol the 3d0 was dead before launch anyways, so his blunder is the reason we have this great version of the DOOM music! happy accident

hey at least she did great with the 3DO port of Wolfenstein 3D since it has all 60 levels of the DOS original and the 30 levels of the Jaguar/SNES/Mac version, meaning there's 90 levels in the game.

I was killing myself ripping apart the damn disc image to get the files. Finally got the audio files extracted from the ISO with 4DO, and stumbled on this looking for aifc2raw to convert them to something playable. I just wanted them to end up as ALACs anyways, so grabbing your FLAC files and converting them is way easier. Thanks!

No, actually she got the source code from John Carmack. He sent to her two discs, one contained the original source code for PC and the other one had the entire archive for the Atari Jaguar's port. Rebecca had to work on the Jaguar's version to gain time because everything was already compressed. However, she still had to made the port from scratch to make it run in the 3DO.

Pretty good, kinda like the redbook audio from Descent 2 but, well, Doom. Yeah, Randy probably could have made a decent living if RU-vid were a thing in the late 1990s, doing 80s rock band covers of game soundtracks. He's certainly got the chops for it. I'm guessing he never pursued a music career (aside from teaching and opening a music store, and we know how that went down) because he's not known for _writing_ music. That and he thought it was a lot easier to get rich selling games than selling music.

3DO was defintely powerful enough to run a better port of Doom than any other console on the market at the time, beside maybe the fledgling PS1. It just needed a regular development cycle and an actual team behind it. It was amazing seeing Wing Commander 3 playing on the console at the time and Doom could have been amazing, especially paired with this soundtrack!

Era un juego condenado (Doomed) al olvido, pero Randy, evito ese fatidico destino. The only 90s port of doom to have a live band covering the PC midi music in streaming format. The new-age music of the PS1 version has aged better than the 80s-rock inspired PC music, and these 3DO renditions further enforce that 80sness, which is by no means a bad thing - the synth here is especially cheesy, like the mega cd version of lethal enforcers. exceptions made for "Suspense" on the 3DO, which is a little like the PS1 music. Try playing your favourite port of Doom with "Zombie" by the Cranberries - now that really *stings*

yes but the 3do version has less songs than the pc version so some tracks from episode 1 repeat on episode 2 havent beaten episode 3 but so far first 2 maps seem to have remastered 3do music, still going back to the original midi after the mod feels like a downgrade.
