Nothing compares to this goddamn game. Even today, the monsters and gory decor are scary in a way that ray-traced graphics and fancy rip and tear finishers will never match. When I first played this game as a kid I was obsessed with Knee Deep in the Dead. Finally played Shores of Hell and Inferno and was utterly blown away by the increasingly more nightmarish environments. My God this game was cruel and mean-spirited in just the right way. A true masterpiece!!!
One of the creepiest things about this specific Classic Doom, Shores Of Hell map say unlike Deimos Lab or Command Center before it is the fact that it's only called The Halls Of The Damned and that's eerie because it's never specified what it's original human-given, scientific, SciFi-name was prior to the demonic invasion of the Lost Deimos Moon Base thus rendering it a more creepy, cryptic and mysterious vibe to it and I love that as it again makes it more creepy & mysterious that way.
You listen to this. You fall asleep, Doom at the monitor. You wake up. Its Hot. Your Legs are Backwards, and you are wearing khakis. you see a dude in a green suit shoot you down, and then you are back to the monitor.
