My Custom Reload Mod. I compiled this mod as there were seemingly no suitable options for weapon mods that were compatible with Cheello's Voxel mod, as almost all others replace the voxel sprites on the ground with custom 2D ones. This mod only adds reload and changes the animations, while being fully compatible with Voxel Doom.

The SSG shotgun animations was harvested from smooth doom but Alex still deserves props for the other reloading animations on the pistol, chain gun and the rest. Pixel art isn’t easy.

@@mikeg2491 idk just grab a doomguy hand sprite sheet and a doom muzzle flash sprite sheet and draw your own guns and add shading and lighting it isnt that hard atleast it isnt hard for me

The only slightly strange thing is on the pistol (at 0:06). The hand that pulls the hammer, comes from centered bottom of the screen, when if it came from the left in a diagonal move (like before, when taking the empty clip) it would be a little more natural. All the others are 100% perfect. Congratulations for the excellent work!

Interesting experiment! The plasma gun reload could have been better, and to quote Charlie, "this is a MAG, stop saying that they are clips, you look f-king stupid", but otherwise it's honestly good work! The animations fit the theme and you did wonders with using the vanilla sprites as basis.

the OG doom game calls all the bullet pickups 'clips', so it wouldn't exactly be vanilla for him to just change that

Due to the plasma rifle and BFG having the same sprite for the barrels i imagine those are the small Cell packs you find in the floor, so when the plasma rifle's front guard being pushed back to cool it also works to eject the cell and as for the bfg the same could happen

Cocking the shotgun after reloading should only be done if the weapon was totally empty, otherwise there's no need to cock since there's already a round in the chamber. The pistol really _never_ needs to be cocked like that - just changing out the mag is all you need to do if it's not empty, and if it is empty you can chamber a round just by hitting the slide release with your thumb, grabbing the slide itself and cocking it back just wastes valuable time.

I just dont see any reason to use this mod, plus it feels cursed. Yeah he spent effort on it but that doesnt inherently deserve praise. Effort can actually be disregarded pretty well if there was no reason for it

There's nothing wrong with constructive criticism. These comments aren't shitting on the mod, it's not like they're straight up insulting it. They're just pointing out things that could be improved. That said, I feel some of that could be ignored. "Shotgun too slow." No, I think it's perfect for a shotgun reload.

Love it, I’d maybe change the plasma rifle to go a bit longer before reloads though, it was always a satisfying gun to just keep spraying on some mancubuses and cyber demons endlessly. Any delay that is too long between reloads does change the gameplay dynamics significantly. Also make the doom guy immediately start reloading the BFG after he unleashes the blast rather than waiting for it to hit something.

It sounds and looks great, and yeah good thing it works with Cheello's vox mod. The original weapons seem a bit out of place with the voxeles.

you could make the reload speed faster if you dont run out of pistol ammo and then start with 16 instead of 15. I dont know why this isnt in all new games. You have to animate less and just add 1 round.

probably not (except for the pistol maybe, which has side view unused sprites) casings were probably just something of an aesthetic choice that they cleaned up since it would probably be too taxing on the hardware

It's so stupid when people use the word "clip". Obviously none of these weapons use clips so the correct word is MAGAZINE or MAG. The super shotgun doesn't have a magazine though so maybe the word "weapon" or "WEAP" would be better.

they are being true to the original game, you pick up "clips" in Doom. there is also no such thing as a "Super Shotgun" irl, but they still use it just because it was called that in og doom 2.
