Agreed, as much as teachers impart knowledge onto the younger generation, that doesn’t really help if said students aren’t willing to show the respect, let alone be a functioning human being instead of a screen zombie that just sits there and not engaging with what is being taught. Nor is it the teachers’ responsibility to teach proper adequate and other basic foundations that should have already been established during a child’s development at home.

My brother and his wife have been teachers, elementary, for over 25 years. Both quit last year because they got sick of the disrespect, and verbal and physical abuse by the students, and their parents. These were kids in a "Good" middle to upper class school district. My brother taught high school in LA for ten years, and he said that those students had nothing on this new generation. Mind you back then he had guns pulled on him several times.

if teachers don't want to be baby sitters, they need to quit these schools. These schools do not want to teach, they just want a daycare. These educators should be teaching and advocating for tradeschool to replace these institution who no longer serve a purpose of giving knowledge. That and tradeschools are better suited for preparing students for the real world.

The millennials were Marxists and actually a lot smarter than what Gen X and Boomers gave credit for. Imagine how many figured out how to quit by pumping GME, AMC, Dogecoin, NVIDA and much more. People like Chris Chan are extreme examples and not reflective of reality. Gen Alpha sucks but they can and should go a step further above class consciousness and start being existence consciousness and attack the Demiurge. Once they read up Nag Hammurabi Library and start fighting existence itself, I will have a lot more respect for them.

I think the pandemic and at-home learning really emphasized the failure on the parents part because the kids couldn't be as easily held accountable for not doing their homework the next day like in person and parents would usually not set up the laptop in a structured/distraction free place. Parents also wouldn't support or help their kids with problems or make sure they understood what was being taught. They were super hands-off and children need structure to thrive, structure which both the pandemic and their parents fail to give them.

@JennyKlindt
@JennyKlindt 2 месяца назад
I agree. But also the norms formed by social media and being perfect, looking perfect, be "successful" makes a whole lot of selfcentred people...in this case the parents. We need to stop or heavily reduce the use of ipads, social media plattforms etc because it is going to ruin us. There have been studies shown that all this use has decreased skills such as empathy, conflict resolution, communication, bonding and also patience in us as people. So in other words one will grow up to be narcissistic, lonely and aggressive without the ability to communicate properly. Great!
@nekomancer09
@nekomancer09 2 месяца назад
yeah but also most of this problem is from lower class students whose parents have to work more than before because of price increases etc. the rich families who can have private tutoring and education aren't dealing with this issue to a great extent from what i've seen. their kids know discipline. pretty sure if the parents weren't overworked, more of them would be willing to support their kids' learning

I think the screen time issue is not just parents and Covid, but it’s a fundamental issue with how America was built. America was bulldozed for the car and it’s hard to get anywhere without one. That combined with the dangers of kids being our on their own and parents being very understandably scared about their kids getting kidnapped or hurt outside, many kids barely ever go outside on their own, and most of their freinds are from school and live far away where they can only see eachother with a car and have to have arranged times to meet. Kids are trapped in their home and most parents enforce that,

I'm Gen X. My son is turning 9 in a few weeks and he's a little angel and recommended to the gifted program for his reading and comprehension levels and his teachers love him. He reads as well as most adults. He never stayed home during the pandemic because I had him in private school. Paid for by the state. We are not wealthy at all. A lot of these kids missed 2 years of school and socializing. And also, the system sucks and is designed to create wage slaves. I don't mind if the kids are rebels but they have to at least be able to read. Come on people!! Maybe their parents need to start reading to encourage their children. Are these parents ever reading books? I honestly didn't even have to try to teach my son to read or get him to read. He likes it. But I'm a big reader myself. I LOVE books. This show just made me incredibly grateful for my child. And it's not "the pandemic" that caused the problems. It's the harmful and unnecessary government mandated shut downs. My kids are 2 and 1. I notice the behavioral difference in other children just when we take them to the park to play. We plan on homeschooling and so far, my kids are very friendly, compared to the other children who hardly want to socialize at all. Every time my son sees a younger child he always wants to say hello and be friendly towards them. I often find other kids are rude or are detached and don't want to play with kids they don't know. I want my kids to grow up having friends, but how hard will it be, if their generation is this way? I remember how easy it was to make friends at a park even just for the day when I was a kid (I'm 28). Although my generation was one of the last to play outside regularly and have very frequent interactions with the neighborhood kids. Times are just different.

I'd have to see what you're seeing exactly to know the degree to which it's abnormal, but as a mother of two very young children yourself, I can imagine you're fully aware of all this and so I'd love to see what you're seeing because more people should know the early warning signs of this so they can head it off at the pass.

I have had conversations every year with my children's schools that I do NOT want my children pushed through. Real life doesn't work that way. If my children aren't learning the material or doing the work well, maybe they'll catch on the second time around. I also refuse to let them do summer school. I'm fairly easy going as a mom. I know everyone needs mental health days and my children are free to come to me and say i just can't do it today...I have those days too...but I also tell them that they may be surprised by how resilient they are when they push through difficult times and come out the other side. I definitely think c19 had a very detrimental effect on school age kids. I also see that things like TikTok (not allowed in my house) are playing a huge part in why kids just aren't living up to their potential. If you want to see the results of how this plays out in real life just watch any of the bodycam videos available from cops for people in this age range. Crazy stuff.

Box kids sometimes also were in a box for just talking too much and being a general distraction. There was usually one box kid in a class. My boss at work said he used to be a box kid in elementary. It's so messed up, I can't even fathom it. Mainstreaming highly dysfunctional kids has been a failure. They need to bring back special ed, remedial and behavioural streams, so the majority don't have their educations ruined, and stop letting failing students fail upwards, where they'll have even less chance of catching up. They also need to stop leaning on restorative justice so much as a substitute for discipline. It's only appropriate for mild to moderate misbehaviour, and first offenders. School administrators and governing bodies need to stop cowing to and placating nasty parents and start supporting their teachers.

As a young woman planning to have my first child, I’m deeply concerned about the lack of parental involvement in children’s lives, largely due to work demands. I’ve suffered two miscarriages, and I believe the stress and expectations placed on me in the workforce played a significant role. Society often shames women for wanting to be mothers, pushing the narrative that being a ‘boss girl’ is superior. I’m frustrated and heartbroken. I want to be a mother, but the financial necessity of both me and my partner working makes it seem impossible. Society’s disdain for stay-at-home mothers contributes to a cycle where parents can’t properly raise their children, leaving many kids to struggle. At times, I feel like giving up on my dream of having a child because I fear I won’t be able to provide the care and attention they deserve. I just wish there was more understanding and support for those of us who value motherhood and want to be present in our children’s lives.

As a local student. I can't help but notice a concerning trend among my cousins and past family members. It shows us that kids (ik ima kid too) don’t even go outside anymore? Which is concerning if your just stuck on your tablet staring at it having no hobbies, no sort of remorse, or anything it will and is going to reflect the minds of the gen alpha. Parents should be able to control their child instead of saying “alright sorry take it” and stuff. Parents are being wayyy too lenient which is messed up. So, my opinion is get these tablets away or maybe to a screen time or something. Reflecting to the past, wish times were way simpler, we could also have fun(going outside etc) and playing on our tablets

Make sure they have someone to play with so they develop social skills unlike me… I have massive issues with social cues because I didn’t have any interactions with anyone except my parents. Give them plenty of toys and MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A STABLE HOUSEHOLD. If you don’t agree with how the other parent acts and think they may be harmful, they don’t need to ruin the child.
