If you really pay attention to the verses this song is such a shocking way to look at four different types of approaches to a badly failing relationship. All four of them trying to cling onto it it different ways, or looking at it reflectively with slightly different attitudes of frustration or release. It's fucking art. I love Doomtree.
One of the two gas masks that appear in the video is indeed from Ax Man... it was modified by our prop master Gabe Wimmer to have the monocle and chain that you see. The other mask is an antique.
Social anxiety in general. Close partner relationships gone sour & the resulting darkness, confusion, depression, 'death' & 'rebirth'. Steady progression from Dessa's intro verse, thru to Sims' final lament.
@@michelangelo3911 lol yeah, that one got pulled from so many videos. The funny thing is, i was so young and stupid back then I didn't even know how to download music. The audio in the original video was literally recorded from my speakers with a microphone 😅Maybe its a good thing they muted it
your video is what brought me to this song lol I watched it when I was like 10 and had the chorus stuck in my head for 8 years till I finally decided "you know what lets just check the description for the song name"
The lyrics are just cryptic. They meaning isn't meant to be particularly obvious. I've been paying attention to the lyrics after several listens, and the theme appears to be about an unexpected reincarnation after the total destruction of themselves, into a new existence without identity,
Doomtree is literally one of the best hip hop artists out there. I saw P.O.S. live in concert and was completely and utterly inspired. Keep doing what you Doomtree. A freestyle sesh and my life would be complete..
The whole song seems to be geared around relationships, particularly how they fail. Dessa - Two people who are together because of mutual struggle, believing it is real. P.O.S. - Someone who is so paranoid of relationships failing that they sabotage by planning a way out Cecil Otter - You nailed it. Unrequited affection, and the self-destruction that follows Sims - This was the hard one. I think, it's giving yourself completely over to someone, and being destroyed by them. Think abusive.
Have not seen this in 6 months. Still makes me teary eyed. I had to die twice, no novocaine, is pretty deep. But for a long time, I thought it was ""had to die twice, NO ONE EVER CAME. either way works for me
Definitely one of the best hip-hop tracks iv'e ever heard. Not only that, but I like the beat because the instrumental is something you wouldn't typically expect in a hip-hop song. Almost Nine Inch Nails like.
Glad it helped for you! I think the song is more about waking up (and beacon representing the "light") though. Especially the bars from Sims make sense to me and this theme.
I'm not sure if I got the message of the song exact but from what I've analyzed it seems to be how you shouldn't chase someone who doesn't want to come back home, if she wants to come back she will. Thank you, this actually helped me fight my mind off against this exact problem. Thank you.
ok i have no idea who any of these people are or anything about this group or what ever I just randomly heard this song but I tell you what, I bloody love this song and the video is pretty damn good too, liking the steam punk ish look
To me this video is about ill contentment leading into something more simple and without identity. Keeping it easy instead of the challenge of the mundane lifestyle of suffering and scraping by. She makes the decision to join those more "eclectic" and clean. The decision is that of what happens to relationships on a daily basis. I love doomtree you guys kick some major ass! Content to enjoy and digest!
Wow you guys make amazing video after video... I've gotten a few of my friends hooked on your music. Heres another video i gotta post all over facebook!
Who else heard and saw his lips say I HAPPILY RECOMMEND NOTHING TO NO ONE, LIKE GRANDMA. read his lips. He says it, and a high pitched sound effect says LIKE GRANDMA
You guys should do a giant Doomtree boxset. Videos, any solo albums from each one of you that DTR can contractually distribute, and of coursethe Doomtree albums (being the unique sort of label you are), and then some sort of fodder like a doomtree shirt or something and then sell that at a high total price and i bet you they sell well. Id buy it!!
Awesome catch. I still consider the best show I ever attended was Astro and Dessa opening for POS. I just hope that the talk of him and POS doing an album together is really happening. Though I do wander what a collab between Astro and Cecil would sound like.
Thing amazes me about Doomtree is that just as I peg P.O.S as the star of the show, along comes - say - Mictlan or, in this case, SIMS to blow my theory out the water. SIMS is majesterial on this track.
I wish everyone in the world could see each other like that, to much bullshit put in are minds when where young that we become blind. But there is an awakening happening which give's the future generation hope.
Holy shit! Found this by accident. Awesome. Not my style of music but I love it. Are there any other bands that have songs like this one?. I don't really know if I can get into their other stuff.
This video should be in college course on how to make a video. They threw everything in there including the kitchen sink. You see his face flash into a human skull??even in slow motion it goes by quickly. I have seen this video 50 times, and I just noticed it
