to all Dessa haters,, open your blind minds eye(s) and ears! this is Original Dessa is a friend of mine and she pushes the envelope rather than being stagnant. this is AMAZING!! much respect Dessa you have so many talents it is unreal!!!
If I were to introduce someone to Dessa's music, I would refer to this. There are so many facets of her talent being displayed within this short video.
I am sooooo upset that I'm going to miss Doomtree's appearance in SF! I would love to see Dessa in person. She's incredible!!! Your are an angel that carries a gun!
This is fucking beautiful!!! The intro sent shivers through my body, I F**KIN swear lol. It was magical, I immediatly bought Spiral bound within the first seconds of the intro. Don't know why, don't care, all I know is that this stuff right here is real and the world needs to hear it!!
@yttrandefriheten I wish I could uprate this comment more than once. Dessa and Doomtree probably singlehandedly restored my love for hip hop in 2009. I have a greater appreciation for spoken word now too, now that I can see its links to skilled MCing--actual storytelling, rather than just spitting disses. Just like the best classic stuff.
those first few lines when she starts rapping.. pos uses those lines. or the other way around, i am not sure. but that's awesome. this is the first i've seen of her other than live, where it was hard to listen to what she was saying. now that i can listen to her... wow. she is amazing. those ladies are amazing too! i better listen to some more dessa lol!
@MFCutlass, Yeah and how much liberty do you need? We've accepted everything but murder and people still complain. People just want to do what they want to do and don't want anyone to make them feel bad about it when it effects the people around them. If people were more self-less they wouldn't want to justify all of their faults, they'd want to fix them. That's called taking responsibility for your actions.
@MFCutlass, Ok if you had any sense, you'd know that I was talking about the mainstream female rappers like Lil Kim and Nicki Minaj. And I"m not offended by a woman like Lil Kim's sexuality, I'm repulsed by it. Yeah male rappers rap about sex too (which is dumb) but girls glorifying there sexuality so obsequiously is just adding insult to injury and proves that those girls have nothing to say. This is why I was complimenting Dessa because she's an intelligent and sophisticated artist.
@Skullz930 I'd be inclined to agree to a point, Lil Kim et al's overt sexuality doesn't appeal to me, but it takes all sorts. I'm not a fan over fuckcentric lyrics, but I still find the idea you've put forward that these women are 'demeaning' themselves a little preachy. Bear in mind that many devoutly religious people would say the same of those having sex out of wedlock, not to mention those who deem homosexuality worthy of the death sentence; see Islamic law in Saudi.
