I used this tip for some solid douglas fir entry doors. Worked awesome and ensures you get all 6 sides well coated with stain. I went to a thrift shop and paid 25c for an old steel golf club and used that as my axle.
Do you think the bolt and screw pivot method would work well for sanding/staining/varnishing a full lite wood storm door? It is only 1-1/8" thick. I'm concerned it may bow a bit from lack of rigidity compared to your thick doors in the video. Due to several coats of spar varnish, it will be on the jig 6-7 days.
Good idea but not for the DIYer how many have stands, wood to make the jig, and you need space plus one glossed door at a time going to take all week, but love the idea.
Painting and Lacquering are two entirely different things, even if you are spraying the paint on. And this helps getting coats even, not to mention protecting top and bottom. It's a great jig.
Jigs aren't for everyone, but some don't mind spending more time to ensure you end up with a quality product. Many benefits to this over what you said, including ensuring an even coat that allows you to hit all sides. Especially with lacquer, while you can sand in 30 minutes, it's still not cured and can ding when flipping doors, setting against walls etc. I imagine if you are happy with contractor grade doors, then use a wall. If you have higher expectations, jigs like this are great.
