Over the years, I've almost always painted doors with my trusty roller and an angled brush. Then I picked up a cheap paint sprayer and wanted to test to see if it could out perform my traditional method...
One thing I forgot to mention in the video, is that I thinned the latex paint down with about 10% water. You could thin down the paint more and it may solve the nozzle issue, but then you're stuck with having to spray the door many more times to get the same coverage.
hands down sprayer (a good sprayer) is going to do better job than roller 10 out of 10 times; however, it does take a bit more work to stage the door for spraying but I will spray everytime that I can because the finish is just so far superior
Some painters are good with any tool and depends on the size of the job, but overall if you instruct properly and they listen then practice makes perfect sense. There is money to be made just watching paint dry LOL.
I just responded to your comment, and then I realized that I had missed something - try this again - The answer is yes. The paint that I was using was actually thinned down with water by about 10%. I find that when I thin it down any more, I had to do many more coats to cover the same area, and to me that kind of defeats the purpose of the sprayer. If I have to spray something six or seven times, then I might as well use my roller! Would be a whole lot faster! 😉
Good video and as others have commented, very professional inspector. Can you tell me how long you waited between cutting in each time and how long between main coats? Thanks.
Thanks for the comparison... I understand the time difference if you're doing a large area, or in the this case a large number of doors, but what is the difference in paint usage? It might not be so obvious with 1 door side but as you start doing larger areas....Thanks.
I’m looking to do some doors in my house. Was planning on using paint roller and angled brush. Do you have a paint brand/type you’d recommend? I’m going to paint bedroom doors and a bathroom door. I plan on painting them white. Thanks and I enjoyed your video very much!
Wherever you buy paint, I would just get the highest quality semi-gloss you can afford. Better quality means less coats to do and easier to clean later
