In this video I fix a door on a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado that will not open from the outside or the inside. #LSXMotorsports LSx Motorsports Check out our Store - shop.spreadshirt.com/lsx-moto...
Yes hoping the Two videos will help everyone get their door problems fixed. And if I ever come across something else that helps I will also post. Thanks for watching and commenting we really appreciate it.
Wow, you made that look so easy. My passenger door won't open. I figured it was the cable so I bought it. I have asked so many guys to help me fix it and they all say it's a lot of work. Now I know they just couldn't be bothered. Makes it easy for us women who are handy with tools to fix things ourselves. Thank you for posting thus video! God bless you!🙏🏼❤️
You've done what nobody does, you open it put it together then film the teardown, damn, that is truly admirable, thanks a bunch, I got a 07 tahoe and doesn't open from inside only rear passenger , I'll see what it looks like when I open it,
Thank you. If I were doing it today I would have gotten everything on video but this was shortly after starting the channel and doing videos was very new to me. Thanks for watching and commenting we really appreciate it.
Thank you for fixing my truck .. amazing how you figured because before I saw this video I have No idea how to open or to fix it I truly appreciate it. Bravo to you. Don’t forget to subscribe his channel to anyone who read this 😊👍🏼
My passenger side window motor stopped working and when i brought it into the shop to be replaced, the passenger side door stopped opening on both inside and outside after a few days just like this. In order to get it open I had to pull the panels off as best I could using this video, reached my hand down to manipulate the cable and was able to pop the door open. After taking it apart, I found this cable was intact but the small plastic clip holding it in place had broken. So the cable wouldn't actuate since it was floating freely in the door. I drilled 2 small holes around where the clip should be held in place and added a small zip tie to hold the cable in place and so the 2 ends would stay in place and could actuate the lock. Couldn't have done it without this video, thanks so much!! Cheers from Canada
Thank you for this video. Silverado 1500 and after evaluating the door handle assembly etc, I concluded the issue was the cable. Picked up a cable at Autozone for $52.00 plus tax!!!! Your video was the only one that I found that showed the process of removing the latch mechanism and getting to that end of the cable to install the new one. Ran out to HD to get a T30 bit too! You helped me get the job done before inspection was due! Thanks again.
Excellent video and instructions. This was my exact problem on the same model truck. I wasn't able to open the door by pulling up on the lock, but was able to peel the panel back far enough to get my hand down near the latch and get the door open. I replaced my door latch cable just as you showed and it now works perfectly. Thank you!
@@LSxMotorsports2021 I've got a 1995 stuck shut. Good news door panel is off. Bad news I've had my hand all up in there and can't get it to open. Please help
Sorry to hear your having trouble. If your able to reach inside the door if you can reach the latch where the cable hooks you should be able to trip the latch to open the door.Wish I could help more but that video is the only experience I have with this problem and it is not my truck so I have no way of testing any other fixes.Hopelly you can fix your problem.
Helpful video. I thought this was the problem, based on what my wife described (she was using the truck when it happened). Searched RU-vid found this video as the first hit, did a refresher and $50 and 45 minutes later I’m back in business. Thanks!
Thank you very much for the video! It happened to me as well and found this video to replace it myself! I bought the cord on Amazon for 15 bucks! You saved me several hundred dollars im sure of it. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for the video! It really helped me out. I had changed my outside door handle and kinked the inside door cable when reinstalling the door panel. Was able to open it and get everything straight. Thanks!
Thanks for this. Was able to open the door by pulling up hard on the lock and using the outside lever. Took the panel off. Nothing seemed to be broken for me, but pulling on the inside lever cable a bunch of times seemed to free it from whatever issue was there. Seems to be working fine now so I reassembled. Might happen again but at least if it does I’ll know what to do.
Thank you for posting! Just pulling the lock a bit more was the trick on my 2000. I also saw the video where someone cut up their door, and that was definitely going to be the last option.
Thank you for the very helpful video! I just finished replacing the cable on my 2011 Silverado. It frayed near where it connects to the inner handle. Fortunately my outer door handle still worked ok so I could open it. Didn’t effect my lock like it did for you. I’ve now basically dealt with every part of the door. Cable, switches, and mirror. Everything on there fails but at least they made it easy to work on.
Hey guys,So some of you have tried what worked for me and had no success.I tried a few more ideas I had but unfortunately nothing worked to open the door.Wish I had some other tips that would help but I wasn't able to come up with any other solutions other then what worked for me.Wish I could help more. Thanks for watching.
If the door doesn't open at all take the panel off from the inside just enough to get to that cable that connects to the inside door handle and door lock mechanism. Take that cable out of the inside door handle (the cable with the ball on the end.....use a pair of vice gross to pull it and the door should open right up. It's been 6 months of me trying to get my door opened with the latch not catching but after seeing this video and him telling me that that cord was the issue, I improvised.
My 2013 Chevy Silverado handle is coming all the way out. Its on passenger side and the inside handle does work still. I ordered new handles but need to open up passenger door to see what actually went wrong. Like I said, the back part of handle seems to have broken away. Will see in a day or two. Helpful video.
Well that must mean you got your door fixed. They usually use other names when they don't.Glad the video helped. Thanks for leaving a comment we really appreciate it.
thanks for this video.have a 2011 gmc truck so probably similar mechanism. does anyone know in comments if there isa picture/video on how the door mechanism is supposed to work, with cables, lever handles, etc. john
My suggestion to get it to open: Let the interior handle snap back into place a few times while someone else is pulling on the outside handle after you let inside handle snap back. I was trying to open it from the inside. The handle was loose(the 2 back rivets were broken) so I was trying different angles. My brother in law said, "All we need is for it to open one more time". And it did....After I let the inside handle snap back a few times. Our cable was broken. I think the cable needs to retract all the way in order for the exterior handle to function. Or, if you can get the trim panel off from the top of the door, stick a long screw driver or hook to push/pull cable lever on the latch one way or the other. I suppose you could try pushing/bumping the cable on the handle end. Good luck with it.
Thanks alot. All suggestions are welcome. The more solutions we get on this video the more people we can help fix their door problem. Thanks alot for posting your how you got your door to open.We appreciate the help.
Hi. I am experiencing the same with 2005 Silverado... I’m getting too old to be hoping in and out of the window. Had a couple questions for you & thanks for posting this, there’s not much info online, surprisingly. So were both doors having issue? (Both of mine are) it just seems odd that the cable would break at the same time on both drivers and passenger side doors. #2 do I have to pry off the handle and other parts to get to the screw under the door lock piece? Thanks
No my problem was just the drivers door.If you are asking about the door handle that you pull to close the door then yes the trim needs to be pulled off to get the screws out the hold it on the door.If you're talking about the handle you use to open the door then no that stays in place. Now this video was on a 2012 silverado so now sure how similar it is to the 2005.This video has been more popular then expected.I didn't expect to get anyone to watch but seems to be doing good.So tomorrow I plan to try using a coat hanger to open the door.If it works I will video it and that should work on any of these trucks because some people have tried what I did in this video and it didn't open the door.So tomorrow I will either post in the comments that it didn't work or I will post a new video if it does work. Thanks for watching and hopefully we can get your doors open for you.
Sorry I tried some other ideas today to find other ways to open the door but was unsuccessful.Wish I could have helped more.Plus its not my truck so the owner was freaking out a little that I was messing with the door again even though it is working properly now.
I was panic a bit when I got to my work place I can’t open from the inside. I was hoping it didn’t happen to the other doors. All windows was up and thinking how to get out if all of them doors are also broken. Luckily the other doors are ok so I crawl the other side to get out… but too embarrassing in public doing it. Glad LSX MOTORSPORTS helped me fixed my truck door… again thanks and subscribe his channel ❤️
Sorry it doesn't help.RU-vid doesn't come with a manual on how to shot videos and I admit I didn't do that good of a job with this one.The door was stuck and I got it opened but I didn't film it until after I got it opened.I tried to show everything I did to get it opened but it is one of our early videos so did not explain it well. You can go through the comments and maybe find a solution to your door problem. If you do find a way to open yours maybe leave your solution in the comments it could really help someone else.Again sorry for the poor video we were and still are rookies when it comes to making videos.
Driving to work this morning. Got in drove to work. Got to work and door would not open. Rolled down window and it wouldn't open with outside handle. Lucky for my old ass I have a bench seat. I have a 95. Do you think its the same deal? Thx for video
It is hard to say for sure. There are many different parts that could fail. I also have a link to another video in the comments that can help you get the door open. Just recently the door on that same truck stuck closed again but turns out it was just frozen and a couple hours in the garage and it was opening just fine. Good luck hopefully it will be something simple.
Sorry I don't have any ideas for you.Fixing the door in that video is the only experience I have with that problem.Hopefully someone will help you out.Good luck and sorry I couldn't be more help.
I have the same problem I can’t open the door from inside and the power lock doesn’t go all the way up or down so I just reassemble everything?and buy a new cable
My issue was that the latch wasn't fully open. When the handle was tugged lightly by a guest, the door opened partially. I couldn't tell why the door wouldn't open and all cables and mechanisms inside seemed to function. Solution for me was to roll the window down and firmly grab the door. Push and pull till the door fully shuts. Was actually harder than I expected. Then a firm pull of the handle to open. Regrease the latch once open.
Sounds like pulling on door lock before starting to remove panel is best bet. I guess if that doesn't work have to figure out how to take the panel off with door closed
This happens to me in my 1993 Chevy Suburban so often that I am afraid of locking my doors either manually or using the electric door locks. Hoping to replace all of them.
Yeah this seems to be a common problem with many different causes.Good luck with your truck and thanks for watching and leaving a comment we really appreciate it.
It should be.And I also have a video link pinned towards the top of the comments that can help get your door open if your problem is different from what I had.My door should have opened from the outside but the cable was causing the lock mechanism to not fully release.Good luck.
Don’t pull up on the rod it’ll break the actuator mine broke.. had to remove passenger seat to pull the panel off now I’m going to have to remove the back door just to get to the bolts to pull out the actuator cause the tumblr isn’t opening the door at all.
Took the door panel off, too change my speakers and now I'm having this issue 🤦🏽♂️ I'm sure something is loose or getting jammed. Going to have to open it up again
That pull on the lock and open from the outside truck didn’t work for me:( I think it’s the outside door handle cable that broke :( won’t open from the inside either for that fact.
If my outside handle is broken is it still likely a way to either get the top panel off to see cable? Unfortunately this method won’t help me get panel off with the inside handle not working and the outside broken.
Hopefully someone can help but we are a small channel so may be awhile before anyone answers. If you do figure it out can you let everyone know in the comments. If we get enough different fixes in the comments then eventually everyone will be able to fix this problem.Seems to be a common problem with many different causes.
I wish I could say. There are many different components that can be causing your problem. You can check in the comments to see how others solved their problem.Good luck.
Here is a solution. My door was stuck shut. Where the inside door handle cable meets the actuator it hooks behind a metal fork. (Look at a diagram of your gm actuator.) My metal fork was stuck forward in the open position. Pulling the inside and outside door handles was ineffective because the actuator was already stuck in the open position. I soaked the actuator in WD-40, spraying most importantly towards the metal fork. Then I reached into the door with a long flathead screwdriver and pushed the metal fork back into the closed position. The door opened immediately.
Thanks for leaving another solution. There are many different causes for this problem so the more comments like yours the more solutions we have. Thanks alot.
How did you get the door open you skipped over that part!! My door is shut and the panel is off but neither handle works to open it how do I get it open when both handles don't work
Hey so I went and watched this video again and your right I did not do a very good job on this video.Anyways what I did was pull up very hard on the lock rod with and pair of pliers and opened the door with the outside handle. Now you say you have the door panel off,If so then just reach inside the door to where the door latch is and just pull on the latch where the cable is attached and it should open.Sorry the video isn't more detailed but this video was made shortly after starting this channel and I knew very little about making videos for RU-vid.Hope you can get your door problem fixed.
Nope that's not a good idea.Hopefully this video will help.It has helped some but it doesn't work for everyone.I tried a few other things with no success .Hope you get your door fixed and thanks for watching.
The plastic lock was still on but I pulled on the steel rod with pliers.Pulling on the plastic would break it.And while pulling up very hard on the lock rod I was able to open the door from the outside handle. This doesn't work for everyone but it did work for me.
@@LSxMotorsports2021 ok see I can't the plastic lock off bc the clip on the lock to take it off is too far down. How did u leave the plastic lock on and pull on the rod?
Once I got all the bolts and window switches out I pried the door panel out enough to get a pair if needle nosed pliers in and grabbed the lock rod and pulled up very hard while using my other hand to grab the outside handle.Either have the window down or better yet have someone outside to open the door from the outside.Hope this helps.
Oh man sorry to hear it.There are others that had no luck either. You can try going through the comments there are a few other suggestions in there.Again sorry it didn't work for you.Hopefully you will get it figured out.
Honestly I am not sure.I am not a mechanic by trade so I have limited experience. But if it opens from the outside but not the inside then there is a good chance that it's the cable for the inside handle. The good thing is it is pretty simple to remove the door panel and check it out.Good luck.
Will the door panel come off with the door shut ? I thought i tried it and it wouldn’t I think I just wasn’t trying hard enough I’m tired of this shit ima just attempt it again
No the door panel will not come off with the door shut. The best you can do is take out all the screws and you can pry the door panel forward enough to reach inside and pry up on the lock.If that will not release it try and reach down far enough to pull on the cable that goes to your inside door handle with a set of pliers.Prying up on the lock was all I needed to open the door.I had to use the outside door handle to open the door while prying up on the lock mechanism.
i must have missed where u showed us how to open door. i keep rewinding and cant find it. can someone give me a time stamp when he opens the door. I’m seeing what you fix but i still can’t open my door
So this video was actually made after I already got the door to open.I made the video because I couldn't find any good videos on this problem. So what I did and this does not work for everyone.I pulled up on the lock rod fairly hard and was able to open the door from the outside. Now the reason for removing all the screws is because the plastic button on the lock rod would not come up high enough to remove the clip holding it on the lock rod.So after removing the screws in the door I was able to pry the door panel forward enough to get needle nose pliers in to pull up on the lock rod.Now if the plastic lock button is already up high enough to remove the plastic clip holding it on the lock rod then there is no need to pry the door panel but it also means this probably won't work for you anyways. There are many parts that can fail causing the door not to open, this video will only help if your problem was the same as mine. You can also look through the comments and see how others were able to get their doors open.Wish I could be of more help but I don't do mechanic work for a living so I am limited to my own experiences fixing issues with my vehicles.
The cable for the inside handle was broken. The big question is why was the door lock not completely disengaging which is why it wouldn't open from the outside until I pulled very hard on the lock rod.
has anybody opend the door differently? i have the same problem just didnt work for me, im trying to figure out how to open my door from both sides, please and thanks!
Unfortunately I couldn't find anything on RU-vid.I tried a couple of different things because I wanted to make another video to help those whose door still wouldn't open but nothing I tried worked.I am not a mechanic by trade so I don't have the experience that a seasoned mechanic would have.Hopefully someone will be able to help you out in the comments .May be more beneficial to find a larger channel and ask this question. We are still pretty small so not alot of traffic here.Sorry I couldn't help but I definitely would if I knew of something else to try.
I had the same issue, both levers not working. Not sure how hard you pulled up on the lock but I had to use vise grips and REALLY reef on the damn thing. Didn’t work for a while but it finally gave.
That's good news it worked for you.Yeah I had to pull pretty hard also to get it to open. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment we really appreciate it and it may help someone else who watches.
Hey I tried the numbers on the package and non of the numbers worked. So I searched on Napa's website and I got this part number OES 8195795.Now it is the right cable but the price is higher than I paid.Your best bet is to go to your local auto parts store and check prices.
No problem. If I would have done the video right in the first place I would have had a proper part number. But still new to the youtube thing and we have alot to learn when it comes to making videos. Thanks for watching we really do appreciate every person that watches.
You make a good point. But at the time of doing this the lock button would not come up even when I pulled up on it so I was not able to see the little clip that holds it onto the lock rod.So removing the handle, screws etc allowed me to pull the door panel forward enough to get pliers in there so I could pull up on the lock rod which allowed me to open the door. This video was only to show how I got the door opened and what the problem was.Unfortunately this has not worked for everyone.
Check through the comments too see how others fixed their door and also at the top of the comments there is a link to a video that will definitely open your door but takes some patients.Good luck.
Sorry to hear that.Did you check in the comments section of this video? There are others who tried different things to get their doors open. And I posted a link to another video that might help.Good luck.
Then your lucky. You can open the door and remove the door panel and take a look inside, something is broken.Probably still a broken cable but you'll want to get inside the door to be sure.
When you find out what is wrong if you think of it let's us know what was broken it could help someone else out with their door problems. Thanks for watching and commenting we really appreciate it.
Sorry to hear that. There are several components in these doors that can fail. But check in the comments,Some people have found other ways of getting their doors open.
Of course this bullshit happened to my truck and I have roller windows so it’s probably an absolute bitch to do. It’s only the inside door handle though that’s the thing. Hoping it just came loose and didn’t break
My passenger door wouldn't open from inside or outside. I pulled up on the lock and it opened from the inside. I took the panel off and closed it and it wouldn't open again. Nothing broken so I pulled up the lock and opened it from the out side. Maybe cable is stretched and loose. I'll change it anyway and check back.
@@LSxMotorsports2021 ok. Door is making me stupid😡. Replaced the cable, I opened and shut the door before putting the bolts in. Great right? I tightened all the bolts down and shut the door. WTH it doesn't open! Used the method to open door again, won't open. Loosen the bolts it opens. It's winning 😡
Ok. It's opening and closing on inside and out. (Shhhh) it has a mind of its own. I believe everything has to be lined up perfect including that stupid lock pull thing on the door to work like it should. Thanks for the video because I'm sure I would've broken every piece of plastic on it!
I got a 2004 Chevy Silverado with a jammed driver door. I got the door panel off enough to get my hand inside of it and pull the rod connected to the handle and the lock and it still won't open. Any tips?
Sorry I wish I did.I don't have too much experience with this stuff myself.Only thing I can think off is get a coat hanger and start fishing for the lock mechanism release. The problem is being able to see what you are doing. If I think of something or find something on the Internet I will post it.Sorry I couldn't help.
@@67buddie well the only thing I can think of is that your cable may have broke on the side that connects to the door latch. You could shape a coat hanger or piece of wire with a hook on one end and see if you can catch the door latch and release it that way but I have never done that so not sure you would be able to pry the door panel enough to see what your doing.Wish I could help more but my experience is limited when it comes to this. You may have to go to a experienced mechanic.
Yes sorry about that.I actually didn't plan to film it until after I found there weren't that many videos on the subject and by that time I already got it opened.I explain how I got it opened but I am not that good at explaining anything.lol.But if you check in the comments at the very top I give a link to a video that shows a good way to get the door opened.Hope you get your door opened.Good luck.
Sorry to hear that . There are many different parts that can fail in these doors.Look through the comments,There are others that came up with different solutions to get their doors open.Seems to be a common problem with these trucks.
