would love to see this in chicago/illinois. i've seen some ny dashers post their earnings after the change, and some of them made 100% more. i don't care whether i get paid by doordash or by tips, i just care about getting paid.

$29 an hour in NY still doesn't match the cost of living there. Everything in that costs more than other places except for CA. Bring a guaranteed $29 per hour to WI, big difference! But I don't want a guarantee for the simple fact that DD is going to send me to areas I won't even deliver in the daylight, and even worse in the dark which starts at 5pm. If this ends up going nationwide I won't do it anymore. At that, even our hourly guarantee is a joke...$13.50 per hour! That tells me that there's some horrible earning dashers in my area. People do this for less than $20? I'm mad if I don't at least average $25.
@mstoi38
@mstoi38 9 месяцев назад
Are you on TX? Our base pay ranges by area. The area I live in, the base is $13/hr ($13.50 peak). Ten minutes from me, the base is $12.50. DD was offering peak pay at $15/hr & $17/hr but they haven't offered peak amounts since raising NY's base pay 🤬 and I've been making way less.

I mean the issue is you shouldn’t be trying to LIVE off of DD or any service like it 😂 it should be a side job and a side job ONLY. Use it when between real work or going to school, I’m 21 and never would I ever think to quit jobs and dash full time 😂 terrible job security, tomorrow everyone could wake up and decide they don’t wanna spend the $ on delivery.

That would make DD a REAL job… that’s the issue, it’s not a REAL job it’s a side gig. Please stop trying to turn it into a real job, I enjoy dashing when I have extra time to make extra $… that’s all it should be EXTRA money.
@oVividz

DD complainers are always mad about not making a livable wage as if you SHOULD be able to live off of simply picking up peoples food for them 😂 $20 per hour is great money for a side job, hell even $15 (I’m in Cali) if nurses and doctors are struggling in the economy there’s 0 reason a food delivery driver with no education should be making a livable wage

Im in the Albany ny capital region area. Usually what happens in NYC, soon follows in this area as well. So this is good news. And while my area isn't as busy as NYC, we still have quite the population that have the customers.

The problem is “on an active order” You aren’t being paid by the hour you’re paid for the active hour. If you drop off an order and don’t get one for 20 minutes- that’s 0 pay for 20 minutes. Remember they control what offers you see and when. When I’ve tried the - by the hour pay - I get orders to outlying areas with long drive backs - so I’m not active multiple times in a 2-3hr shift. And most of them are no to super low tip - They also only let you refuse only 1 order - so basically you are forced to take what they send you- long drives, bad areas, whatever. Here the pay for that model is $16/hr plus tips but with low tipping and non active time it isn’t close to my per delivery earnings. I’ve worked in several large cities with great hotspots-

that pay rate is completely unsustainable. Every dasher will just WALK the delivery to use up as much time as possible. Nuggs already showed how EBT can be exploited, but he was just one guy in the Ohio suburbs. Multiply that by tens of thousands of dashers in a gigantic metro city and tell me how doordash will be able to afford such a high labor cost. If it sounds too good to be true, it is. The laws of economics will catch up at some point. If this pay model is still in place a year from now I'd be shocked.
@Naturalicity
@Naturalicity 9 месяцев назад
I live and dash in Cali. Nope, one can’t purposely slow down their deliveries, there’s still a “deliver by” time and if you are consistently late you will get deactivated. If you start driving slowly or don’t move you start getting messages that you are not making progress and asks if you to cancel. You will continue to get that message. If there is a big accident or fire or hostage situation (I’ve encountered all three, along with long trains passing that make you wait for 5 to 10 mins, then you call in AND if you’re lying they will know because only you are calling in when that’s something that usually affects a number of Dashers. So far two years of stress-free driving, going on 3 and I bet you that Cali has the best stats for acceptance, completion and number of deliveries per Dasher. Yes, we’re only paid for “active time” and it’s STILL better than per order. It’s a whole lot better than begging for a $2 tip or any tip at all.

We in NYC are NOT guaranteed $18/hour. We ARE guaranteed 50 cents per minute of active time. The new law allows the apps that option and both DoorDash and Uber Eats have taken it. Still, the new deal is soooo much better. Two days ago, I waited 30 minutes to get the food from a restaurant. Two weeks ago, I'd have strangled the cook. With the new pay plan, I simply sat down and earned 50 cents/minute while the cook fumbled the entire deal. Now when a restaurant blows it, DoorDash takes the hit - not the delivery person. On to a quick analysis of why both DoorDash and Uber Eats opted for 50 cents/minute rather than $18/hour: Because they know their contractors are idle more than 35% of the time. We are rarely super busy. Only in the rain or extreme cold. Last week, I had the app on for 60 hours and logged 30 hours of active time. At 50 cents/minute, I banked $900 plus $200 in tips = $1100. Not bad for a 73-year old on a pedal bike.

I pretty much do doordash full time and I've seen how it benefited me in California when I went out there to visit. I've just moved to New York City for my final year of college so I will be able to see how this reflects in the next couple weeks on the payout days. But judging by how long things take out here because of the way that doordash operates. I'm a huge fan of this change and I look forward to updating you once I actually have a couple weeks of payment under my belt

Do you have any idea if this is going across the country? I just came back from HI and just looking at the Dasher page, I was offered earn by hour. I was on vacation & didn’t intend on working but had just asked Support about earn by hour & it sounded better. You can pick the order s you want & it’s as busy or busier than pay per order. I’m a Top Dasher & I’m used to just accepting every order they send because they are typically over $6.00 - $20.00 & haven’t been more than 10 miles away . In the last week I have been getting orders from major chain restaurants that are 15 miles away or more. I see McDonald’s or DQ for example with a high pay and don’t look at the distance because why in the hell would they send French fries from McDonald’s 25 minutes away when there’s at least 10 other stores in between? I called Support & told them something must be wrong with the programming & I refuse to take any order from a chain like that if it’s more than 4 miles away. I’ve also been asking for pay by hour & they tell me it should be available to everyone. Do you have it in New York?

I'm curious if you've heard about the Dasher rewards program? I'm in a test market for this and I guess there's only like 10 or 15 test markets that are running this pilot program. In my market we have three tiers: silver, gold, and platinum. These are based on your stats with Platinum essentially being the same criteria as top dasher but, you have to maintain that level constantly to have dash anytime, access to large orders, priority for top pay, etc... I think we're on month three of this right now and I have seen my earnings go up per hour...I wonder if this is going to be instituted nationally when these newchanges that you talking about in this video start to happen? Seems like they might mesh together

I’m in NYC and this is a positive move. Example, I’m now averaging $32hr per log on time (day time). I do not care if the rest is slow, orders are small and customers don’t tip. I don’t have to stress rushing around and I save on gas. So far about 1 in 3 orders still tip-but they are the better tipping custs $5+. You have to look at this pay model differently, it’s not about the offer amount, tips, or quick deliveries-now just take your time ( but be responsible and deliver on time) and take all the bs orders to stay active.

You say it's a win for all but how is it a win for the company? By DoorDash having to pay 30.00 an hour active time,they are going to have to go deep in their pockets to pay all delivery people this high wage,which the base salary on deliveries will not cover on its own unless one gets a bundle order for 30.00 that takes an hour for pickup and delivery-- That can happen on occasion but most of the time, DoorDash is going to have to pay out big amounts to all. Not sure how they fix this or sustain this model.

Running red lights , going up the wrong way on a one way road , worst part os that they know this, and yet they allow it !! I could imagine if the would get that under control , Iwas born here !! Instead of getting a job , they should get a book and learn english, so the can talk,! If you can please breakdown. It, so is it base fee then the time needed to do delivery In NYC 2 out of 10 deliverys Would actually go back and tip , they ate there full there good , there so not worried if i get a fare wage ! Do they count when im sitting in traffic !!?? Maybe for surrounding areas maybe different, hey only in NYC ,

The other bad one is they have you drive so far it costs more in gas then you make. I'm at 5 star and my everything else is in the high 90s sometimes they just screw you over.

HA! I regularly make way more Active Time pay....$45/hr in IOWA. NYC minimum wage is about $18/hr and to meet that DD calculated near $30/hr ACTIVE would meet that.

High pay but NO work, boroughs…personally bronx, is 2x slower than before update, barely no orders, the majority of the times, but will make me try to get the top dasher to be able to go anytime, cause as for schedules, NATHAN. Before it was decent(pink) enough for me to dash almost any time, now it’s mandatory scheduling
