Mostly a solo artist. "They" is the pronoun used because they don't identify as male/female, which may be what confusing you. Of course Dorian collaborates with many musicians and dancers for their shows and their records; but there's not really a band dynamic to it.

Dorian was one of my first friends in middle school when I went to a new school, got to collab with them to do school projects and other fun stuff; they always had the great work ethic and put in the effort since day one. They truly are amazing and I wish them all the best in their future endeavors! So happy for them to get some positive reviews and hope the great momentum keeps going. 🌈💖

I know you concentrate on the music first and foremost, but the videos are a work of art by themselves and are an integral part of the creative output, not just an afterthought, I am thinking especially about the ones for Man to Man and Career Boy.

I'm gonna be honest, once you're into Sophie, getting into this is not hard at all. Sophie is like a punch in your face and ripping you brain out while this is just a pinch. i wish Dorian could go extra hard on this but anyway it's a good debut album. This is a very accurate comment. SOPHIE was my gateway to PC music and hyperpop and I think it was the best possible gateway as her solo discography sat mostly on the extreme end of the spectrum (which I love). Dorian is milder, but genius none the less. SOPHIE and Dorian are (were 😭) both genius.

When someone (like myself & Dorian) uses singular “they/them” pronouns, you use those for before they came out as trans, too (unless they tell you otherwise). Just so you know 👍

Yes, and same for any pronoun use, I sometimes use masculine pronouns when describing my past self, but that's something only I can do, if my friends, partners or family use masculine pronouns rather than feminine for the pre-transition me, it will make me uncomfortable

I'm pretty sure Melon didn't do that in this video. The part I think you're talking about is early on when he switches over to talking about Charli XCX. It is a bit grammatically confusing, but I don't think Melon was using the wrong pronoun for Dorian.

This pronoun debates confuse me. In German we don’t have neutral pronouns that’s who I find it so strange and wrong to say they/them. Those pronouns can only be used for groups of people in German that’s why I automatically try to give everyone when describing them either masculine or feminine pronouns but that happens automatically. In German we have a other relationship to pronouns. The only German pronoun that’s neutral would be “it”. But I don’t say it when talking about a person. TLDR: German dude probably constantly triggers people by using the wrong pronouns due to they/ them not existing in German in that form thus he doesn’t uses them.

Mani32 every language has different rules yes, and some English speakers will try to insist that they can’t be singular (and then often a few sentences later use it that way themselves), I learnt Spanish which also doesn’t officially have a gender neutral pronoun, and can make talking about enby issues difficult, and am now moving to Finland where they don’t gender pronouns at all, which while it makes referring to enbies easier, but can cause Finns to accidentally misgender binary cis people when speaking English

Cradamy but it also seems that we don’t have as many gender neutral people her in Germany as in other parts of the world. It could be because we don’t have a neutral term thus kids tend to just change their gender and not decide to be without. I don’t know that stuff is way above my knowledge but I only wanted to say that misgendering someone shouldn’t be seen as something evil and bad. There are many reasons why you could mistender someone and I also was misgendered multiple times wen I was young just correct them and if they ignore you just stop the conversation.

You are a smart person. The album is CRAFTED. The videos too are stellar. Easily my favorite POP album of 2019...the track Flamboyant is one of my all time favorite tracks like top 50.

The main point of this album was that it actually is bdsm themed. The album takes a coherent and strong stance on lgbtq+ representation. It also makes more sense if you know Dorian's background

It made me so happy to see Melon cover this, and how he went about it. Dorian is the shit and is a trailblazer challenging & changing the old school ways the world tends to see things. Dorian has immense artistic talent. And the voice! You should hear Dorian's natural voice by itself! It sounds EXACTLY the way it does on the tracks! Really! Those deep & high tones I thought were only achievable with the help of editing are actually what Dorian naturally can do! It blew my mind.

I would say one criticism that I was surprised that Anthony didn't touch on was how the lyrics and their musical motifs can become a little stale and overstay their welcome at times. Anyway, definitely an interesting album. Can't believe this is the same person who wrote "I'm in love with Friedrich Hayek".

So happy you reviewed this! I agree that the "I'm so random" lyric was easily the most cringeworthy on the album (even if it was trying to be ironic) but the rest is so much fun, the concepts are thought-provoking, and the visuals in the music videos are an absolute treat as well.

I became aware of Dorian through their early singles (which I suggest you check out, though they're pretty different both in aesthetic and sound) and I really loved this album. Waiting for Slayyyter to make an album so you can give her a 10.

Just finished listening to the full album and it was such a good experience. Interesting, freakish and yet beautiful sound to underline these amazing lyrics. I love it! 10 out of 10!
