I'm 41 and I remember this commercial well. I thought it was so strange...even for a 5 year old. I remember asking my mom to pick them up at the grocery store after I saw it multiple times. Great marketing.
Wow, this sure is an unusual commercial. It's playing off the mystical Native American shaman vibes and the narration is surprisingly calm, which matches the tone of "Cool Ranch." I was born in '81 but I don't think I had my first Dorito until 1990(?) Back then the three main flavors to choose from were Nacho Cheese, Cool Ranch, and Monterey Jack Cheese, which was a mild yet savory cheese flavored Dorito with black pepper flakes that came in a black bag. It's a shame that it was a limited flavor. I'm grateful Cool Ranch wasn't! Having a bag as I watch/write this, and even though it's over 30 years after I had my first taste, the flavor is more intense now than I remember, but very similar to the original 80s flavor :)
I remember Cool Ranch being kind of a game-changing gateway. Where chip companies then started releasing all kinds of alternate flavors, etc. Chips were generally a lot more basic before the Cool Ranch revolution..
I remember when this was brand new. I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I first tasted it, which is weird because it's just a snack but something in my brain felt it was much more.
Being a native American and also a child when this came out. I for a little time the spirits made them. Lol mind u I was still watching Saturday morning cartoons. I still believed
Hated this fuckin commercial when I was growing up, angry that I found it here again. Had to look to see if I was crazy, remembered it but didn't remember it.
