I just need to say... I wanted to pull this down since we have now re-recorded it the way I always wanted to sing it, but management wanted it to stay up as a glimpse of the history. this was three years ago... back when we recorded this original version I wasn't a singer - just a guy who wanted to try... three years on and I'm much happier, we also hit number 1 in the charts in the UK and number 8 in the USA which blows my mind to pieces. Anyway... I'll leave it up, but please check out out latest EP "Catalyst" for an update on the "sound of Dorje", cheers guys Rob P.S please like this comment so other can see it ;-)
rob you're such an Inspiration to me and always put a smile on my face, you are always making me try and write the best music I can. I love your demos and your band and am sure as fuck buying the album. May you be blessed by the gods of rock \m/
+Josh Morgan it's hard for a small band to do something greater than that. You need to spend tons of money on enough other things that the video inevitably takes lower priority. I think it's fine for what it is; an introduction to the band.
Just seemed to really lack creativity. I just figure if your going to go the distance of studio lighting, multicam recording professionally made, do something that fits the music... This is like a cookie cutter high school rock band video haha.
Ummmmm no offense but I'll ask u a question. Do you have a blues band cause some people including me metal is kind of idk idk how to say it but it's good sometimes but sometimes not. Metallica ACDC Black Sabath (don't know if it's spelled right) and Dorje is my only favorite mat all bands. But I like blues much more.
V I agree... I watch these guys on their Andertons vids and their musicality oozes..Rabea has a near genius if not outright divinity streak.. Id like to think I posess that kind of musicality.. but maybe not lol.. anyway was most excited to see these two rocking their band.. I am now a fan and will support.
Buddy, you got my feeling. I live with a soundengineer (my wife) and she has DESTROYED thousands of songs but this one, even she can appreciate it. And let's be real: relax and enjoy what it is / how it is! could this be "improved"? maybe, but we need to stop being assholes in the first place.
Hate to jump on the bandwagon, but... Chapman should think about spiffing up his vocals a bit. A couple of recording tricks and Dorje could knock Alter Bridge off of the Bulletin charts. Other than that, top notch guys. Consider moving to America. Larger population means larger marketing....
I've got nothing but good things to say about his singing ability. I just wonder why there's not double tracking or anything fancy added to it. Especially considering the grand, stadium rock nature of the song.
Honestly, his vocals are perfectly fine. It's just that they're not very prominent in the mix. However his voice really suits this style of music and he's pretty much on pitch. You can't ask for much more.
Psshh as a singer mysefl I can say that he is REALLY TALENTED. I don't like this style of vocals much but it's impressive he doesn't start coughing or something. I know I would!
***** It's not so much a matter of how he sings as it is of the production afterwards. His singing is totally fine the person who mixed it could have done a slightly better job though.
***** Watch AC/DC live shows. Angus sprints around the stage while soloing. He rocks so hard they actually have to keep oxygen masks at the back of the stage in warmer weather.
It doesn't have anything to do with the mix. They know how to mix very well. Dave is a wizard. Its really either you love them or think they're shit. But I think his vocals just work.
cheeseismurder that's good to know, cause I'm planning on going on Spotify with my band. Would you rather tell me not to do that? Greetings from Germany! ;)
Hendrik Frommhold putting your music on spotify is not a bad thing per sé. The main problem with spotify is that not well-known are not getting what people think they should. If you want it as a way for people to hear your music it is a good idea. If you want to make miney from it.. not really
your guys use of odd meter is awesome but I love how you guys combine the older/more classic vibe of rock music into a newer and very progressive style. very very unique. it's like, classic rock djent haha
It depends on the type of battle I guess. If it were in a tank,I'd choose Addicted to Chaos by Megadeth If it were in a chopper,I'd choose Black Rain by Soundgarden or Deconstruction by Witchcraft If it were in a combat airplane, No Win Situation by Hoobastank And if it were with a fu*king longsword in a badass armor it would be Murmaider by Deathklok. And I'm too specific not to seem like a weirdo.at ALL. However,I'd advise you to listen to them all.
If you're in a tank, just put on "The Hurt That Finds You First" by Meshuggah, and keep that on repeat. I can guarantee there will be nothing but bodies everywhere afterwards.
I like the simple video focusing on you guys. To some it may be dated, but I enjoy it and wish some of the "dated" parts of music from the 60s-80s would make a comeback.
Yeah! Nice groove. I want to go down to Andertons. Looks like a great place from what I see on RU-vid. And a pub next door... get in there and scarf some nuts... shoot back and buy a les Paul then run across a burning bridge whilst shredding some Satch with my damned ass on fire. I wonder what the parking is like?
Lyrics Verse It was dark, Looking up , Resolution Our only hope Came from the sun! We were lost, forgotten! But found our way back, To hear you say! Chorus When you fall away, That's the price you pay! When you crawl away, Aeromancy! Verse 2 It was bright, Looking down. Divining the skies around. Aeromancy, We were blind, Now we see. The price you pay, For what you say! Chorus (x2) When you fall away, That's the price you pay When you crawl away Aeromancy! *Break* Chorus (x2) When you fall away, That's the price you pay! The riffs and solos are killer. Thanks for sharing all your great work. Very inspiring indeed :-) As for the snide vocal remarks; it fits perfectly for this style of music, and you can always post your own work to show us how it's done. The attention to detail is remarkable. All that hard work has paid off and they are reaping the rewards. Think about that the next time you feel like slating proper musicians!
Sick of seeing all these comments saying shit like 'omg wher iz da kaptin'. This is Dorje, Lee is not part of this band, he does not play this style of music, he is mainly a Jazz/Blues guitarist, that's why he isn't here, and to answer that question, at this time I'd imagine he's at home
So glad I found you guys. You scratch a musical itch that hasn't been scratched in a long time. I love the slightly funky feel. Reminds me a bit of Nuno Bettancourt. Please make a hundred albums.
That's what happens, you have the bands/musicians who revolutionize the music scene and then for the next 10-15 years you have people emulating those original pioneers. Not saying that there's not talent in those later bands, they just don't seem to have the same effect as those that breakthrough with a new type of sound. In my opinion, originality is as important to success as talent..maybe even more so.
Sounds like typical your post-grunge crap...Great technical virtuoso musicians, but I don't think this genre is for them. It just doesn't sound right, especially the vocals...ugh.
Wow these guys rock, I had no clue that Rob sang. For me, vocals aren't always about how amazing your voice is, its more about how they fit the band and the music that's being made. I think Robs vocals fit perfect with the music and creates a nice tone.
Man, over 10 years later and that solo still hits just as hard. Such perfect balance of shred and melody and just UGHHH. Amazing work Rabea. One of my favorite guitar solos ever.
Dude i love dorje, im so sad theyre no longer a band. Im literally re-recording this for fun on my pc at home tonight.. ill likely upload a version as an ode to rob and bea's awesome band.. Still gives me chills listening to it like the first time i heard it.. im about to go hard on the solo and i need to get my wizard fingers on haha.. so much to learn from these guys.
One day I wish to upload a song that you come across and give me a thumbs up. You are someone that has influenced and kept me going for quite a while. Been pulling all nighters and long hours weekly to get as many songs compiled for a song list to go gig with my uncle.....I just hope i continue to improve and be a better improv guitar player like you.
i think rob voice got a lot of potential but his singing need some work for sure. the music itself need some balancing and clearing up. just because its heavy metal dosnt mean it should sound like nuclear fallout. a sound engineer friend of mine use what he call "the cheap headphones test" to make sure it sound good not only on his studio quality equipment. if it pass the cheap headphones test it will sound good on everything.
i for one like the extreme clarity of robs vocals. and the band as a whole is just so good a match i cant even.. also rabea is an absolutly insane player
I know what you mean. The tempo of this song is like ride. And omg, I love it. That solo is fucking awesome. Just incredible. Is there a tab for this song and what's the tuning?
This is an excellent track. The vocal mix is a tad off, but I still enjoy the vocals. The musicianship is top rate. Ben's drum feel reminds me of Chris Alder. He is very tight but has great groove, and feel. He has a great pocket. The bass work is really impressive. Rebea's lead work is damned good. His leads are well played thought out, tasteful, but are still technical. Chap's riff work is very good. I'm glad I finally checked the band out.
I think some people are confused because they cant hear the musicianship without naked girls dancing in the background.. maybe just wear underwear in you next video? it seems to make the worst musicians sell millions of albums... try licking your guitar instead of playing it, people seem to like that
Rob's vocals arent bad, who even thinks that? If I had his voice I would sing the whole day long and do concerts on my own or with a band in the weekend.
It's probably a bit late, but I don't find anything wrong with the vocals, it fits great and very 'human'! I know it could be sharper around the corners in a couple of instances if you wanna be 'Perfect' but when it first came out I remember listening to it on repeat and singing to it, and if it was good enough to make someone sing along then I personally think they did a great job! Not that my opinion really matters!
